My DH and I have started going to the theatre Saturday matinees more regularly now our kids are older teens and we can leave them home alone on Saturday afternoons!!

We have booked Dracula so far as Australian friends have raved about it but wondering what else is coming out that people are excited about?

Oh wow that's great! Glad you had such a good outcome.

Just booked to take my daughter to see heathers. She has wanted to see it for a couple of years so she is over the moon.

Frannyisreading · 23/02/2026 22:37

I've found with the NT there are nearly always a small amount of returned tickets a day or two before if you check the website. They do tend to be the more expensive seats but it's a possible way to see a sold out show.

The National are always worth checking, as they will take tickets back for credit with about 48 hours notice, and then resell -so we always buy tickets to pretty much everything and then return if we can't make it or reviews are bad, so even "sellouts" often have something because they will resell. Almeida
will do the same.

Cyrano is wonderful! This week we have all my sons, Prima Facie (Bath) and American Pyscho. High Noon next week.

PatriciaHolm · 23/02/2026 23:05

Sorry quoted wrong post there!

Yes they do! Tickets are returnable up to 48 hours before a performance for credit and then they will resell, so definitely worth keeping an eye out. There is the odd ticket available on the website right now for Arcadia!

Placestogo · 24/02/2026 15:43

@PatriciaHolm thanks! I will keep checking!!

IdentifyingAsAWoollyMammoth · 26/02/2026 16:57

Already been to The Rivals with Patricia Hodge at the Orange Tree (Richmond) and Turandot at the Royal Opera House but have The Producers, Summerfolk, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Rigoletto and a surprise ticket from my other half between now and the first weekend of May.

EnchantingDecoration · 27/02/2026 15:58

Just came back to say Harold Fry was amazing, I was really close to the front and could see the actors faces close up, incredible performances and very heartwarming.

Defiantly41 · 27/02/2026 16:37

I have tickets for Shadowlands this weekend and I’m Sorry Prime Minister in a few weeks- you can probably guess which of us (husband &wife) chose which! Will report back …

FatCatSkinnyRat · 28/02/2026 07:39

So pleased to hear that American Psycho is great as we are off to see it tonight. Also have Arcadia next weekend, and again am thrilled to hear that is good too! It's a bit of an unknown when these things are booked so far in advance.

Has anyone seen Dracula? We are heading to that in a month or so - my Australian friends said it was a must see (it premiered at the Sydney Theatre Company) but the reviews have been patchy so far.....

Happy theatregoing / planning / looking forward everyone!

Today is the day of my standing ticket for All My Sons. I have my support socks on in the hope they help!!! 2h 15m.

Undergroundovergroundwomblingfree · 28/02/2026 12:48

I'm off to Dracula next week. I'll let you know what we thought of it.
Enjoy All My Sons JennyWreny, hope the socks do the trick.

I'm seeing Michael Sheen in Our Town tonight. Can't wait!

ItsFineReally · 28/02/2026 13:26

So happy I've stumbled across this thread. It's inspired me on a few productions but also reignited some disappointment on missing out on some others! (Anyone unable to go to The Tempest or Cherry Orchard and want to sell then let me know... 😊)

jay55 · 28/02/2026 13:41

Dracula was a chore for me. It was like watching a tv show being filmed rather than live theatre, so much time is spent with the camera people between Cynthia and the audience.

im off to One Day today, looking forward to it.

HarpQuartet · 28/02/2026 13:48

@jay55 is that because you went to a performance being filmed for cinema, or are there people with cameras written into the show somehow (I don't know anything about this play, but I'm assuming Cynthia is the actress from Wicked?)

jay55 · 28/02/2026 19:14

The whole show is projected on to big screens, lots of shows use screens and projections these days but the actors still usually are not blocked off by the cameras.
Towards the end there’s a lovely piece direct to the audience and it was great but made all that came before the more frustrating.
It will be terrific as a cinema event if they do one.

Did you enjoy AP? We were there tonight too and both I and DD (21, big fan of the movie) loved it - DP who hadn't read the book or seen the movie was more
bemused but did enjoy. Cast all excellent.

next up High Noon on Friday I think. (David Byrne on Tuesday but that's not theatre ;-))

HarpQuartet · 28/02/2026 23:41

@jay55 thank you for the explanation. I do like the cinema screenings of plays, so I'll keep my eyes peeled in case they film this one.

Defiantly41 · 01/03/2026 00:10

Update … Shadowlands 😭😭😭 but also 😆🥰

beautifully acted, much wittier than I expected. Had only known Hugh Bonneville from Notting Hill/Paddington, but that man can ACT!

jay55 · 01/03/2026 09:53

One Day was bloody lovely, if anyone is in/near Edinburgh go see it, it’s extended to mid April. Feel like my theatre mojo is back.

I really hope it transfers to the West End or regional tours. It's such a great book and would make a fabulous musical in the right hands. How was the music?

EnchantingDecoration · 01/03/2026 18:45

Planning a quiter few weeks now (one show a week in Feb, just Operation Mincemeant in March but got a few other non-theatre events lined up). I’m tempted by Shadowlands I must say, so good to hear your report @Defiantly41

I went to see NT The Audience at the cinema today, that was very well done and sharply observed, very funny in places. It was filmed 10 years ago, you could re-do the whole thing with just the Prime Ministers from the last decade….
