Well, what can I say, fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!!!!!!!!
He certainly lived up to his promise to put on a hell of a show! Lee was a brilliant performer, great voice, acting, dancing, the works.
The evening almost ended up in disaster before it had even begun. After getting back from DS1's karate class, I had precisely 10 minutes to get ready and hand over the boys to my mum before heading off for the station. Halfway to the station I think tickets!!!. I'd only gone and left them at home . So I run back, grab the tickets and sprint to the station, catching the train by the skin of my teeth (my dream was an omen after all ). Then at the other end I have to charge through the rush hour crowds like a demon and make it with five minutes to spare.
DP and I get a large glass of white wine in plastic cups and settle into our tiny seats, looking at an empty stage with just a wooden chair in it. I'm seated next to a fat bloke whose bum spills under the armrest and takes half my seat as well (and he had stinky feet but I tried to ignore that). Then minutes later His Leeness appears, looking as fantastic as ever, singing Any Dream Will Do. His voice was superb throughout the whole show, apart from one very loud, very long bum note which made me cringe .
The show was just amazing, all the cast put in excellent performances, including the understudy who was playing the part of the narrator tonight. I'd never seen Joseph before so didn't know what to expect. There wasnt really that much of a story but it was so colourful and energetic. I loved the Elvis Pharoah bits and all the little jokes they snuck in.
Then before I knew it it was winding up, with a big dance routine at the end and Lee in his gold breast plate singing Close Every Door for a second time. Then he stands on some sort of lift thing and is raised in the air to exactly my eye level and I could swear he was smiling at me (ok, wishful thinking I know, but it was still a special moment).
At the end everyone hot-foots it out the door and there's a big crowd waiting behind velvet ropes just outside the main doors, so I loiter as long as I can then head outside, where I have to stand at the front. Then Lee comes out to sign autographs and the man himself hands me a signed photograph and smiles at me . I was literally less than an arm's length away from him and I told him how good I thought he was and he smiles again very briefly while handing out more signed photos and signing people's programmes. then he waves to the adoring crowd and disappears back inside and it's all over.
Then I start wishing I could go again and, wait, hang on, I'm going again on Monday . This time I'll buy a programme and get him to sign it.
Then DP takes me for a birthday drink at the American Bar in the Savoy Hotel across the road and we head home.
And that's it. A fantastic birthday treat and I can't wait till Monday.
G'night all.

I loved Paint It Black. It gave me goosebumps too

dd likes to sing paint it black but adds in random words (as she doesnt know the right ones) thus:

I see a hedgehog and I want to paint it bl-ack...

When a five yr old does it with a serious face it is quite funny honest ..

damewashalot · 15/09/2007 22:02

Bless, how cute

emkana · 15/09/2007 22:03

Am I allowed to join in on this thread?

I saw Craig in the touring production today, it was v. good, but he still can't act for toffee!

LyraBelacqua · 15/09/2007 22:11

Of course you can join emkana. So you saw it today? Details!!!

emkana · 15/09/2007 22:14

Well Chris from Any Dream Will Do was Benjamin.

The production was very colourful and fast-moving, lots of humour as well. Very very enjoyable. Craig sang well and worked very hard, but I find he lacks a bit in his facial expressions. I'm sure Lee would give another dimension to some of the songs! At the end of the show Craig thanked the audience and said how much it meant to him to be doing this, after in the past having sung in front of 30 people in some village in Scotland. That was very well received.

Overall I really really enjoyed it.

Haven't read the whole thread - has anybody else on here seen the touring production? Or is going to?

binkleandflip · 15/09/2007 22:14

did he do licky-lip singing or has he got that out of his system?

The more you girls talk about it, the more glad and excited I am to be going

binkleandflip · 15/09/2007 22:15

I'm going to Preston in November emkana. Saw the touring production earlier this year with Jonathan Parkin as Joseph (nothing to do with the tv show, but he was very good).

DumbledoresGirl · 15/09/2007 22:16

Emkana, I was there today! Which show? We were at the 2pm one.

emkana · 15/09/2007 22:16

Not quite sure what you mean by licky lip singing?

He still has that grin whenever he sings.

emkana · 15/09/2007 22:16

Yup 2 pm today! How funny to think we were in the same room!

DumbledoresGirl · 15/09/2007 22:17

See my post at 19:34 for what I thought of the show!

binkleandflip · 15/09/2007 22:17

Hard to explain but it was mentioned a few times during judging on the tv show.

DumbledoresGirl · 15/09/2007 22:17

Where were you sitting? We were in the Balcony (top section) on the left. Hmmm, there was a lady with a baby in front of me - not you surely?

emkana · 15/09/2007 22:18

My friend saw Chris as Joseph on Tuesday and she loved him in it.

DumbledoresGirl · 15/09/2007 22:18

No, I didn't see any lip licking! I had ds1's binoculars and had them trained on Craig specifically to see if I could catch him lip licking.

emkana · 15/09/2007 22:19

No I was in the stalls and I only had the dd's with me - Joseph would have been wasted on ds I think!

Even dd2 a bit young really, she cried when Joseph was put into jail and said she wanted to leave, was frightened. She really enjoyed the second half though.

binkleandflip · 15/09/2007 22:20

Ah DG, you know what I'm on about then

The thing with Chris is, his teeth are just so big and white..I know its because his dad's a cosmetic dentist and all but ...did they not detract from the show? I couldnt take my eyes off them when he was on telly

DumbledoresGirl · 15/09/2007 22:20

I went round to the stage door afterwards and got Craig to sign my programme. I heard him telling someone he had a cold right now but his singing voice was not affected although his speaking voice was (didn't notice that particularly). He was off Monday and Tuesday with a chest infection, hence the reason Chris was playing the role then.

DumbledoresGirl · 15/09/2007 22:23

Lucky you getting the stalls. Actually, woman in front of me had a baby girl and she was still very much babe in arms. You had a son didn't you and he must be a lot older now that I think of it!

Chris was OK as Benjamin (not a major role really) but I could not imagine how he could pull off the role of Joseph. I wasn't close enough to see his teeth but he did run about the stage with a lot of energy and enthusiasm.

emkana · 15/09/2007 22:24

Yes ds 15 months old now and would certainly have created merry hell He had a lovely time with his dad anyway.

Berrie · 16/09/2007 07:19

Morning everyone!
Gosh, things are hotting up on the Joseph thread!
Welcome emkana!
damewashalot, you must be a long lost sister

Oggs how is the festival going? I had a great time yesterday but the presence of the children meant we did more sitting on the fire engine / bouncy castle etc than listening to the harpsichord in the church etc

oggsfrog · 16/09/2007 08:17

Morning .
Festie going very well - lots of hippies dancing barefoot in the mud . Had early night on Fri as I felt so rough , but managed to summon up enough spiritual fortitude to dance away to one of the main bands last night(spiritual in the sense of alcohol spirit you understand - large doses of brandy in my coffee )
It's the last day today and it's raining (boo hiss). Will wrap myself up warm and head for the soup stall I think.

Coo, go away for a day and it becomes like piccadilly circus in here

Hello Dumble, Damewashalot and Emkana

Binkle, got your emails. Will send it when things calm down here

Sorry, but still can't summmon any enthusiasm at all for the Craig show. Especially if Keith's not in it.

Dumble, the narrator on the Jason (double boo hiss) cd is Linzi Hately and I think she's got a fabulous voice. Do you not think so?

Berrie · 16/09/2007 08:52

Ah poor Oggs...hope you feel better soon.

DumbledoresGirl · 16/09/2007 10:15

Oogsfrog, sorry about your cold.

Yes that is the lady. No, I am sorry, I hate her voice. I find it really harsh and screechy. When dh and I first played the CD, we both physically winced at her first "Jacob!" in the Jacob and sons song. There are a few other moments in the CD when I wince too - every time I hear it.

It is odd, isn't it? because someone obviously thought she had a top class voice for her to get on to the show, but I personally dislike it.

Sorry, hope no-one here personally knows the woman.
