Well, what can I say, fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!!!!!!!!
He certainly lived up to his promise to put on a hell of a show! Lee was a brilliant performer, great voice, acting, dancing, the works.
The evening almost ended up in disaster before it had even begun. After getting back from DS1's karate class, I had precisely 10 minutes to get ready and hand over the boys to my mum before heading off for the station. Halfway to the station I think tickets!!!. I'd only gone and left them at home . So I run back, grab the tickets and sprint to the station, catching the train by the skin of my teeth (my dream was an omen after all ). Then at the other end I have to charge through the rush hour crowds like a demon and make it with five minutes to spare.
DP and I get a large glass of white wine in plastic cups and settle into our tiny seats, looking at an empty stage with just a wooden chair in it. I'm seated next to a fat bloke whose bum spills under the armrest and takes half my seat as well (and he had stinky feet but I tried to ignore that). Then minutes later His Leeness appears, looking as fantastic as ever, singing Any Dream Will Do. His voice was superb throughout the whole show, apart from one very loud, very long bum note which made me cringe .
The show was just amazing, all the cast put in excellent performances, including the understudy who was playing the part of the narrator tonight. I'd never seen Joseph before so didn't know what to expect. There wasnt really that much of a story but it was so colourful and energetic. I loved the Elvis Pharoah bits and all the little jokes they snuck in.
Then before I knew it it was winding up, with a big dance routine at the end and Lee in his gold breast plate singing Close Every Door for a second time. Then he stands on some sort of lift thing and is raised in the air to exactly my eye level and I could swear he was smiling at me (ok, wishful thinking I know, but it was still a special moment).
At the end everyone hot-foots it out the door and there's a big crowd waiting behind velvet ropes just outside the main doors, so I loiter as long as I can then head outside, where I have to stand at the front. Then Lee comes out to sign autographs and the man himself hands me a signed photograph and smiles at me . I was literally less than an arm's length away from him and I told him how good I thought he was and he smiles again very briefly while handing out more signed photos and signing people's programmes. then he waves to the adoring crowd and disappears back inside and it's all over.
Then I start wishing I could go again and, wait, hang on, I'm going again on Monday . This time I'll buy a programme and get him to sign it.
Then DP takes me for a birthday drink at the American Bar in the Savoy Hotel across the road and we head home.
And that's it. A fantastic birthday treat and I can't wait till Monday.
G'night all.

What did he have on his feet????

oggsfrog · 05/09/2007 14:32

£9 for a glass of wine? I don't even pay that for a bottle.

LyraBelacqua · 05/09/2007 15:01

Neither do I usually, I'm strictly £4.99 a bottle, maximum.
I didn't have time to take in all that detail. He was wearing a shirt and blazer and jeans, god knows what on his feet, shoes I'm guessing
He wasn't sweaty (I didn't see one bead of sweat the whole night ).
I didn't get any photos either. By the time I remembered I should take some it was too late, he was heading inside. Will definitely get some next time if I can. I feel last night was just a practice run and I'll know what I'm doing next time.

It just struck me that you don't even have to have been to the show to get his autograph, just turn up outside the theatre when the show finishes. If I lived nearer, and wasn't going again, I'd probably do that. If I get another signed photo, one of you lot can have it.

Berrie · 05/09/2007 15:39

I'd thought of that Lyra! Turning up and waiting for him without seeing the show but then he's got to get to the theatre so why not lie across the stage door for a more intimate encounter...

Berrie · 05/09/2007 15:41

Obviously that should be Me or Boing as we are the only 2 faithfuls who have not had the pleasure of sharing a room with his Leeness ...Berrie realises that Lyra and Boing are already on postal terms

BoingBoing · 05/09/2007 16:06

A cunning plan Berrie! Next time I'm in Lunnen, after a night out on the lash, I could stagger down to the theatre and throw myself on him
Not sure what Lyra's postals have to do with it - she ain't in SW1 so doesn't live nearly enough in proximity to the centre of attention to be at all useful!

Berrie · 05/09/2007 17:05

No no nooooo, you and me first on the list for Lyra's spare photo Boing, though why she wants to give it away I don't know...one for her bedside table and one for her handbag I'd have thought.
You know how I said I was starting to feel old for the first time...well, I've just come to a startling realisation...it's because I've been fancying a 25 year old for these past few months and it makes me realise that I am no longer a lush young woman but a raddled old bag.

oggsfrog · 05/09/2007 17:40

Gee thanks Berrie If you're a raddled old bag what does that make me? I've got 5 years on you I think

oggsfrog · 05/09/2007 17:42

He's actually 26 now, so that makes it okay

Berrie · 05/09/2007 17:50

Thing is Oggs, not sure that Lyra and Boing actually are raddled old bags...I always think of them as very glam...Binkle comes across as quite youthful too...

Berrie realsies that she has just, unwittingly agreed that Oggs is beyond raddled!

Berrie · 05/09/2007 17:52

So what were you doing at 20 when he was 5?

cece · 05/09/2007 17:53

I went last Saturday and thought it was fantastic

LyraBelacqua · 05/09/2007 17:58

My friend was there on Saturday too, Cece, he said Lee was briliant. I guess he's brilliant every night.

Where are they now? article. (The would be Josephs)

Apparently accoring to another article Lee has signed a record deal worth £125,000 and will have an album out in time for Christmas. That's one of my presents sorted then .

The documentary should be around Christmas too shouldn't it?
I remember watching the one about Connie Fisher on tv, so it must have been Christmas week when I was down with parents.

They will do a dvd of Lee in Joseph won't they??

cece · 05/09/2007 18:11

I went to the matinee as had DD with me. She absolutely loves Joseph.

LyraBelacqua · 05/09/2007 18:28

Oggs, they did Donnie and Jason, who weren't half as good, so they've got to do Lee.
A Lee album and a Keith album on the horizon. Oooh, I can't wait!!!

OP posts:
BoingBoing · 05/09/2007 18:55

Hey Cece! Lucky you - I still haven't got the tickets. But the question is, did you take DD cos she wanted to see it, or was it a thinly veiled excuse for you seeing Lee in - ahem - the flesh?!

Sorry Berrie - I was all befuddled and confused this afternoon. I spent most of the afternoon crashed on a bed in the office sickroom with the most awful stomach cramps - nobody told me you get em worse AFTER babies. Harrumph. So tonight is a hot bath followed by cocoa, chocolate chip cookies and an early night with a rubbish novel. Hey - you're right, I AM glam

oggsfrog · 05/09/2007 18:58

Lyra. When did you get a profile??

Your sons are absolutely gorgeous.

Is the Simon Kendrick book any good? I got it from the library yesterday

Berrie · 05/09/2007 18:59

Oggs did not answer my question...Berrie wonders if Oggs has the hump ...the hump not a hump

LyraBelacqua · 05/09/2007 19:01

I've always had a profile, you've just never noticed it. I used to have the Lee Now magazine pic on it.
My boys are gorgeous, thanks for saying so.
The Simon Kernick book is good. I haven't finished it yet but it's been a good read so far. I prefer Harlan Coben though. He is the king of thriller writers.

OP posts:
Berrie · 05/09/2007 19:02

Lyra! They are scrummy!
I wouln't mind sharing a profile with you lot but I value my annonimity...is there a way round it?

oggsfrog · 05/09/2007 19:02

They didn't do a Jason video, not of the whole show, all I can google is a vid w/ 3 songs from the show, not the actual show.
The Donny one is not a video of an actual stage show - it's a film.

oggsfrog · 05/09/2007 19:05

You're right Lyra. I remember you using the shot of the two of us with Lee a while ago

Berrie · 05/09/2007 19:06

I can't bloody well remember 20!
