Well, what can I say, fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!!!!!!!!
He certainly lived up to his promise to put on a hell of a show! Lee was a brilliant performer, great voice, acting, dancing, the works.
The evening almost ended up in disaster before it had even begun. After getting back from DS1's karate class, I had precisely 10 minutes to get ready and hand over the boys to my mum before heading off for the station. Halfway to the station I think tickets!!!. I'd only gone and left them at home . So I run back, grab the tickets and sprint to the station, catching the train by the skin of my teeth (my dream was an omen after all ). Then at the other end I have to charge through the rush hour crowds like a demon and make it with five minutes to spare.
DP and I get a large glass of white wine in plastic cups and settle into our tiny seats, looking at an empty stage with just a wooden chair in it. I'm seated next to a fat bloke whose bum spills under the armrest and takes half my seat as well (and he had stinky feet but I tried to ignore that). Then minutes later His Leeness appears, looking as fantastic as ever, singing Any Dream Will Do. His voice was superb throughout the whole show, apart from one very loud, very long bum note which made me cringe .
The show was just amazing, all the cast put in excellent performances, including the understudy who was playing the part of the narrator tonight. I'd never seen Joseph before so didn't know what to expect. There wasnt really that much of a story but it was so colourful and energetic. I loved the Elvis Pharoah bits and all the little jokes they snuck in.
Then before I knew it it was winding up, with a big dance routine at the end and Lee in his gold breast plate singing Close Every Door for a second time. Then he stands on some sort of lift thing and is raised in the air to exactly my eye level and I could swear he was smiling at me (ok, wishful thinking I know, but it was still a special moment).
At the end everyone hot-foots it out the door and there's a big crowd waiting behind velvet ropes just outside the main doors, so I loiter as long as I can then head outside, where I have to stand at the front. Then Lee comes out to sign autographs and the man himself hands me a signed photograph and smiles at me . I was literally less than an arm's length away from him and I told him how good I thought he was and he smiles again very briefly while handing out more signed photos and signing people's programmes. then he waves to the adoring crowd and disappears back inside and it's all over.
Then I start wishing I could go again and, wait, hang on, I'm going again on Monday . This time I'll buy a programme and get him to sign it.
Then DP takes me for a birthday drink at the American Bar in the Savoy Hotel across the road and we head home.
And that's it. A fantastic birthday treat and I can't wait till Monday.
G'night all.

Did I go on a bit?

I held myself back from telling you all the details eg the lovely chocolate ice cream we had in the interval, how lovely Cheltenham was (not been before) and the fact that the CDs were on sale for £13 (decided not to get one).

Can you tell I don't get out much?!

Berrie · 15/09/2007 20:06

No no not at all! We love the details!
I took my year sixes to see the touring show a couple of years ago as we were performing it for Y6 leaving. I keep wondering how the original performers must have felt not to have their contracts renewed to make way for the TV interlopers!

Berrie · 15/09/2007 20:08

That time, it was not a great performance. The place was full of school children who were not brilliantly behaved (from other schools of course) and the cast were trying very hard not to laugh.

binkleandflip · 15/09/2007 20:25

Hey all!!

I've had a lovely day, been to the gym, sweated it out a bit with my lovely trainer (swoon), been to the Pleasure Beach and been out for tea with dh and dd and had, ooh, only a large glass and a half of merlot and d'you know what? feeling ever so slightly floaty and warm and giddy

Thanks for the review DG, am quite looking forward to going to see Craig et al - sounds like he has really done well.

Berrie · 15/09/2007 20:37

Hello Binkle, feeling a little floaty myself...best put the old cork back in the bottle!

damewashalot · 15/09/2007 20:43

Sorry to barge into your thread but I am off to see Lee in Joseph on wednesday and am slightly embarrassingly excited which few of my rl friends seem to get so I thought maybe I could jump up and down at you lot and you wouldn't think I was mad

Seats are up in the gods but front row so hope to be able to see reasonably well.
That's it really, I've been looking forward to this for ages and can't wait.

binkleandflip · 15/09/2007 20:44

I know, I am posting randomly on Casualty threads and that cant be good!!

I'm sure I've been spiked...I dont normally feel the 'floaty' on this amount of wine. That's it! Someone totally spiked me in Pizza Express!

I'm in bed as I type because my legs are all tingly think this is because :

32 mins on cross-trainer + two complete drenchings on log flume in autumnal blackpool weather scenario ie f-f-f-freezing! + one and half large glasses merlot = tingly legs

Will probably wake up with rheu

binkleandflip · 15/09/2007 20:45

damewashalot, you are amongst friends!!!! Have a cracking night and report back here with all the goss!

(will someone please sellotape the exclamation mark key please I/'m going beserk with it)

damewashalot · 15/09/2007 20:48

So have you been and is it as good as I'm hoping?

I really wanted Lee to win from early on, then even more when dh said he'd take me if he won but wasn't paying to see the others

LyraBelacqua · 15/09/2007 20:49

damewashalot, I've been twice (once last week and again on Thursday) and it is fantastic. Don't be embarrassed about being excited. Have a great time!

binkleandflip · 15/09/2007 20:50

A few of us have b een, he was ace, you'll have a fab time

LyraBelacqua · 15/09/2007 20:50

And I'd happily go again. I'm thinking about getting matinee tickets and taking DS1.
Oh, and damewashalot, if you wait out the front at the end, Lee comes out and gives out signed photos and signs autographs. See my review at the start of this thread if you want the details.

OP posts:
LyraBelacqua · 15/09/2007 20:53

btw, my seats the first time were third row of the upper circle and I had a great view, so yours will be even better.

Berrie · 15/09/2007 20:53

Drunk? Moi?

Berrie · 15/09/2007 20:54

Lyra you really don't want to go again with us do you!

LyraBelacqua · 15/09/2007 20:57

I do!!!
I want to go 'with the girls' and with DS1. That would make four times

OP posts:
damewashalot · 15/09/2007 21:05

Just read the start of the thread, even more excited now

We are going to the matinee having got the train down in the morning and spent time pottering in London on our own with no children we don't do a lot without our 3 boys so a treat, then dinner and train back (does happy dance because Lee is yummy and sings so nicely)

LyraBelacqua · 15/09/2007 21:06

Lee was note-perfect both times (except for one long, flat note during Any Dream Will Do both times).

OP posts:
Berrie · 15/09/2007 21:22

damewashalot...how lucky you are...don't forget to come and tell us all about it...IN DETAIL!

Berrie · 15/09/2007 21:22

Jolly good Lyra!

damewashalot · 15/09/2007 21:30

Ok I can do that.

Would I sound sad and a bit obsessed if I mentioned that I had been looking on Lee's website the other day and got excited at the idea of an album? Although if I am sad and obsessed I have the feeling that I would kind of fit in around here

LyraBelacqua · 15/09/2007 21:32

You are very welcome to join in our Lee obssessing
There's no reason to be embarrassed about being excited, especially not here.

Just out of interest, any other fans of his version of paint it black out there? gives me goosebumps (not that I do things like watch clips on youtube)

damewashalot · 15/09/2007 21:40

Oh and thanks for being so friendly and giving me an outlet for my excitement
