My mum said he was thin as a rake and devilishy handsome.

frumpygrumpy · 01/02/2007 21:44

Yes

And lovely

utterlyconfused · 01/02/2007 21:44

You've just sent me into a decline. Why didn't he look for me to speak to me? I have to say that he was very chatty to us (for him) in Glasgow so he obviously liked us a lot. Not normally a man of very many words at all, but I think that's part of his appeal.
Were they in the Usher Hall bar or what?

Was he the one who worked in a New England shoe factory for years before he decided to sort out his drinking and started singing?

frumpygrumpy · 01/02/2007 21:45

Feargal Sharkey I took my friends to see for my 11 birthday. They all thought I was crazy but danced anyway. I was in heaven. He has an amazing voice.

They were in a local bar and I will press them to find out which one.......for the next time......and I will meet you here right? They didn't even ask for a scrawl on their tickets.

Personally I wouldn't have asked. I would have snogged him full on the beard and said its Scottish custom. Which is is.

Mercy · 01/02/2007 21:48

2 nerves, Chet Baker = 'soft' jazz, late 1950s. I can recommend the album 'Embraceable You'.

frumpygrumpy · 01/02/2007 21:49

Tell me about the new album? I'm scared to listen because I adore Trouble so much. But I think it may have been acquired for my birthday (which is today!) but presents have been postponed until the weekend when I have more than just my children with me...........

Frumpy I'm going to stalk you from now on.

Returning to the subject of the thread (once you've all voted for Ray Lamontagne for Best International Newcomer in the Brits that is) Annie Lennox has only had one mention and she is truly amazing.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 01/02/2007 21:51

Well. My dh thinks it's over-produced. But. Well, I can see his point as it is quite different to Trouble. But the songs are superb - you know what it's like when you get a new album, you have to play it 5 times on the trot before you know the songs well enough to decide if you like them. The gig last week, although I didn't realise it at the time cos I just know them all, was mainly from the new one, and when I came home and put both on (one in the car, one in the kitchen, not quite at the same time) I realised that 'Til the Sun Turns Black is actually probably better. You must let me know what you think.

The Mavericks man is married to Trisha Yearwood.

frumpygrumpy · 01/02/2007 21:55

Why thank you Sally, I've been alone all day and all week, and my dear sweet father turned up at hell o'clock to help with dd and the dts baths and left me a mini bottle of Moet to have with my fish fingers. If I wasn't so bloody in love with Ray and Paolo I'd pour my second glass and shove the fish fingers in the oven .

Really must go.

Do stalk me, I mean, you could say I've almost slept with him really couldn't you. Well, my mum chatted to him, she liked him, I came out her fanjo.........its tenuous...........and disgusting. Someone put me to bed.

2nervesleft · 01/02/2007 21:57

Thanks Mercy will look out for it.
Promise me it is not 'proper do do dat dat a do do jazz' I really can't bear all that improvisation. I used to work with a guy who used to play in a jazz band and made me listen to that all day.

Molesworth · 01/02/2007 21:58

Can't believe no-one has mentioned Ella Fitzgerald

Janet Baker
Elizabeth Schwarzkopf

Van Morrison
David Bowie

and agree with all who have mentioned Karen Carpenter and Stevie Wonder of course
