Started this as we’ve veered off topic on the AG thread.

@MabelTheCow Was that Hannah Williams? I remember reading an interview with her mum some years ago. They found a body at a cement works in Northfleet, her mum wasn’t even notified officially and only found out through the evening news, as they reported it could be Milly Dowler.

ChrissyPlummer · 24/01/2022 11:45

Sorry, correction to my last post. Police in fact thought it could be Danielle Jones and Hannah’s mum recognised the description of the clothing she’d last been wearing.

No. Annoyingly I can’t remember her name but she turned up alive and the police took the line “see, we know when to do more investigation!” It never sat right with me

BorderlineHappy · 24/01/2022 13:05

@LadyEloise1 I have never heard of that case either.

AgentCooperDreamsofTibet · 24/01/2022 14:05

I read most of this thread last night, looked up further details on some of the cases mentioned and then hardly slept a wink thinking about poor Lisanne Froon and Kris Kremers.

I'm also local to the current Alice Byrne case. The posters are everywhere and it's all over local social media but not picking up interest further afield for some reason. I agree that the circumstances are confusing and very worrying. I get a pang in my heart every time I see those posters. I can't imagine what her family must be going through. Being from this area, I'm also old enough to remember poor little Caroline Hogg and the relief/anger when Black was finally uncovered.

I get quite obsessed with these cases, mainly because I cannot bear the lack of resolution and the pain and grief that loved ones go through while searching fro answers. I also want to believe that everyone gets their comeuppance some time or another. It pains me to think that there are people who take their secrets to the grave so that answers are never found.

ImprobablePuffin · 24/01/2022 14:56

I went down a rabbit hole last night reading about Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon.

Such a strange and mysterious case. All those night time photos and the time stamps etc it just doesn't make any sense. I also read some extracts from their diaries and Lisanne was definitely quite mentally fragile at the time.

I was watching a programme a while ago where a police officer was talking about the disappearance of two young boys around the time MM disappeared. He said at the time these two boys who were at primary school age were described by police as 'streetwise'. He said now they would be viewed as 'vulnerable'.

These boys went missing and the initial attitude was that they would go home when they were hungry. Vital time was lost. Sadly they had fallen prey to a paedophile gang and their bodies were found a long time later.

lollipoprainbow · 24/01/2022 16:56

@MTPlate same town as you then!! I know the shop she was last seen in very well as it's my local corner shop. Wonder what happened Hmm

What were their names? I've not heard of this?
dandydear · 24/01/2022 18:46

@IBloodyLoveMichaelJackson was this Patrick Warren and David Spencer? Bit older than MM and 1996 I think. Went out on their bikes and never came home.

dandydear · 24/01/2022 18:54

Also Ruth Wilson

GnomeDePlume · 24/01/2022 19:52

@dandydear apologies, yes I think they may be the two boys who were being discussed. Older than MM but still very young. Far too young for their disappearance to be brushed off.

Very good blog to disappear into.
The Claudia Lawrence case was badly handled by the police who tried to victim blame which reduced the chances of witnesses coming forward. Several men from her local pub were arrested and oddly her 'best friend' is now married to one of them 🙁

ToffeeNotCoffee · 24/01/2022 20:58

@LadyEloise1

Bernadette ( Bernie ) Cooper ( nee Hughes ).

She lived in London and Spain but was originally from Monaghan. She was involved in the pub trade in London and Benalmadena.
She disappeared in 1993.
Her relatives are appealing for information hence the newspaper article.
I have never heard of her before reading of the case this morning.

I've heard about this case on and off. It's terrible. She was keen to get a loan which she got. There is a recording of her phoning from a pub in London saying she had the money.

On the podcast that I heard, they explained how money laundering rings are a protection racket in Spain where her bar was.

So, where is she now ?

EllaMinnowPee · 24/01/2022 21:46

@GnomeDePlume the 2 boys have never been found. However the police are pretty sure who did it

EllaMinnowPee · 24/01/2022 21:50

Alistair Wilson of Nairn is an interesting read. He's not missing but it's a very strange mystery. No motive that was ever found and the case is still active some 17 years later

User48751490 · 24/01/2022 21:50

Just listened to a podcast today about Cheryl Grimmer. Incredibly sad to not have any closure to the case yet. Almost 50 years have passed.

ENoeuf · 24/01/2022 22:25

Claudia Lawrence - when you read what was said about her ‘complex’ relationships the subtext was just devaluing her. The Alistair case - was he a bank manager? Always wondered if it was retribution for not giving a loan or something warped

OP posts:
EllaMinnowPee · 24/01/2022 22:30

@ENoeuf he was the business manager of the local bank but they couldn't find anything at all to link him to any odd loans etc. apparently that just wasn't his role in the bank at all

ENoeuf · 24/01/2022 22:54

@EllaMinnowPee oh I didn’t know that, I thought maybe a disgruntled customer (irrational / lost a lot) rather than dodgy.

@OldTinHat

Damien Nettles is a very strange case. He went missing on the IOW about 25yrs ago. There was a BBC documentary about him which is worth a watch.
I have relatives in the IOW and apparently the locals say he got into drug debt to the wrong people and is buried somewhere on the island. How true that is I don't know.
AdoptedBumpkin · 24/01/2022 23:04

@Tillymintpolo

I think genette Tate was killed by Robert black and Suzy lamplugh by John Canaan and dumped in the canal
Quite a bit of evidence to suggest Genette was killed by someone closer to home. Her Dad was abusing her stepsister, and apparently there was a large paedophile ring in the area. A friend of her Dad was later convicted of raping and murdering a young woman.
TheFormidableMrsC · 24/01/2022 23:14

@EditButtonEdith

Johnny gosch is one that I think about quite often. Was he taken by a paedophile ring? Did he really turn up at his mother's door as an adult and then vanish again? His mother's account is very believable but his father seems to think she lied.
I was obsessed with this story at one point. His mum still has a live website I think (Noreen Gosche). She also put pics up she said she was sent of bound and gagged young boys and was convinced Johnny was one of them. I couldn't see it myself. It did appear that there was a large paedophile ring involved. Absolutely awful, his poor mother was haunted @EditButtonEdith
DickMabutt73962 · 24/01/2022 23:28

@ENoeuf

Lard Mittank - that is such a sad disappearance. I wonder if he had a breakdown. The one that haunts me is the boy who got lost, was calling his parents and then cut off suddenly. His car was ages from where he thought he was and there’s never been any trace of him found.
Bryce Lapisa. That one bugs me. There are a few stories of young men who've gone missing while driving, a couple whose names I don't remember where it's potentially mental breakdowns (not Bryce though).

Also Brian Shaffer. Medical student who went to a bar that apparently only had one entrance/exit and he was last seen on CCTV going in but not coming out and has never been seen again.

AdoptedBumpkin · 24/01/2022 23:30

This thread has reminded me of a documentary I saw a few years ago. It was about a man found dead on a beach in Cornwall, I think he'd been seen on a bus travelling away from the beach town but had ended up back there (deceased) somehow.
