8 teenagers in one car that crashed

Fromhere1 · 11/08/2026 18:49

So they were driving the wrong way on a motorway and crashed in to a single driver. At 5.30am. Apparently the car was stolen. I'm seeing photos on tiktok and they look to be very young.

Where the hell are the parents in this?! I'm seeing tiktoks where the families of these 8 boys are asking for prayers, etc. I wonder if they feel any shame at all?! Or is that an emotion they are unfamiliar with.

I think these parents need to be held accountable in some way... My sympathy lies entirely with the driver of the other car.

Apparently the eight teenagers are aged between 13(!) and 16.... What sort of life have they had up to now that has resulted in them being in that car at that time?!

I do think the parents need to be held accountable in some way. If your 13/14/15/16 year old is out stealing cars and driving on roads amongst other drivers then the buck stops with the parents/guardians of those children.

I spoke to a friend who is a Guard earlier and he said that the Guards can't pursue these cars as it is so dangerous to the general public. He said that the job can be very disheartening as the families are likely to blame everyone else but themselves for why this happened. There are still parents allowing their kids fly around on electric scooters without helmets despite all the media attention on the children in hospital with brain injuries from e scooters.

Fair play to the parent (described in an earlier post) who admitted their child had been involved in some stupidity and that there would be very serious consequences at home.

Maybe these eight kids (when they have recovered) will have their phones removed until such time as they can work and pay for their own phone bill, have a curfew, apologise to the other driver and his family, apologise to all the emergency workers called to that scene, apologise to the owner of the car they stole.... they are children and would need support and guidance from sensible family members in order to do any of this. I would absolutely love to hear that an effort has been made to take accountability.

If you'd asked my parents what I was like as a teenager, they'd have said I was a good kid who almost never got into trouble (the only detention I ever got was taking a shortcut in the yearly school cross country and accidentally winning it). I was bookish, didn't go out much, they wished I had a few more friends.

They'd have been right on pretty much all of the above really.

Didn't stop me from slipping off a wall on top of a cliff while pissed out of my tree at the age of 14 and getting stuck on a narrow ledge for an hour and a half while my equally drunk friends tried ever increasingly more dangerous things to get me back up.

My parents never knew about it, noones did. They found out one of us had nicked a bottle of vodka and we'd gone up the castle to get pissed, but not that one of more of us could very nearly died.

Good kids with good parents can do incredibly stupid shit.

My friends' son died, 20yo in a powerful car (he owned) that he was driving far too fast.

The local FB was vile with all the comments about how he got what he deserved etc, but he was still someone's son. Knowing that he brought it on himself, if anything, made things worse for them, with yes, the shame and weight of responsibility, of not being able to raise a son who wouldn't dream of it , like all the other pefect parents.

All our kids have done things we'd rather they didn't. For fellow parents to be judging in a situation like this...what is wrong with you?

Sounds like they’re part of a joyriding gang so barking up the wrong tree here.

Fromhere1 · 12/08/2026 11:20

I agree that good parents can have kids who do really stupid things... I would hope in those situations that the parents would support their child and ensure that their child takes accountability.

If my teenager did something like this - stole a car, crashed it while overloaded, etc - I would be so furious and ashamed. I would ensure he apologised to everyone involved in time.

Yesterday on tiktok I saw photos of some of these boys with their parents asking for prayers - some of the photos showed the boys giving the finger, etc. Is that really the most suitable photo they could find?

Where I live we are plagued with car thieves - they sneak around in the middle of the night , taking whatever they can from inside cars and then stealing and occasionally burning them out. So the hardworking owner who gets up the next morning to go to work to pay for their mortgage and bills has to deal with it... These kids seem to be feral and someone has to take responsibility for them.

I would love to hear even one of the parents (in time) come out and apologise. In years to come I'd love to hear one of these boys when they are older look back and say I'm sorry.

Accountability....not excuses.

Your friends son didn’t steal the car. However, he was driving ‘far too fast’ and therefore he could have easily injured or killed someone else innocently going about their day. You can’t expect people to have sympathy with people who do things that put others in such danger.

Whats wrong with me? Well, my relative is dead because of a group of teens that stole a car and went joyriding. My relative had been to work all day and was returning home to his wife and children, but never made it because their car crashed into his so fast that he died instantly.

I will judge the fuck out of these little cunts.

IDrinkTeaAllTheTime · 11/08/2026 20:46

Would you be so quick to have sympathy for them if the person in the other car was your relative?

They’re little arseholes and are most likely the product of “gentle” parenting.

Dublin gangs are not usually known for their gentle parenting style.

outdooryone · 12/08/2026 11:44

@Rondayvu nothing in my post justified what happened.
It gave explanation for why adolescents take risks. If anything it shows the parents lack of understanding, that guiding of adolescents through a time where they will make stupid and wrong decisions as they learn. The risk taking element can be managed and navigated with adolescents - provide positive outlets, good guidance, strong boundaries.
If anything my post was a further criticism of the parents, and did not diminish the responsibility the kids have in this as well.

We've all done what you did. Daft stuff that put ourselves mainly at risk and maybe a few others by accident. This is in another league and this isn't a one off. They are career criminals.

In case anyone hasn't heard of them or feels sorry for them and their associates have a read through this about this gang and the list of crimes kids who are too young to name have committed. And then left out on bail but with a curfew. What a joke.

Our local towns and villages are plagued by copycats of them who go around at night in the same way randomly checking cars and vans and robbing whats in them or robbing the cars.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss, @NotHavingThat, and I agree with you.

pontipinemum · 12/08/2026 12:04

@VimesandhisCardboardBoots in fairness that is a wildly different situation! What you are describing is the sort of stupid stuff most teenagers do some variation of.

From what I have heard from locals this is so far from the 1st time those teenagers have done this sort of stuff. They apparently terrorise the area, beat up other kids, steal then dangerously drive cars/ scooters with no regard.

Their parents might not have know exactly what they were at, but they knew they were up to no good.

My uncle in the 1970s ''borrowed'' his parents car when he was 16. He was caught and from what I've heard there were strong consequences at home from it. The boys involved in this car crash have had no consequences for their behaviour so keep doing it, so yes the parents are partly responsible. I know it will be peers too.

I do hope they all make a full recovery and turn their lives around. I do keep thinking about the 20yr old. One group I am on his mother posted to say he was doing ok.

I think you can hate what they've done and have some empathy for grieving parents?

They may be grieving but it’s too much too expect from others imo. The parents need to deal with their own emotions and grief and get help from professionals if necessary. I really can’t give them any headspace, support, prayers or anything else tbh.

I dont think parents should be held accountable. Its about time there's some laws brought in to make these little fuckers actually think twice about what they are doing. They all know they aren't legally adults so will get a little slap on the wrist and be sent on their merry way! Probably rob another car on their way home and do the same shite again. Until their are consequences, little scrotes like these wont give a fuck. Passing the accountability onto parents will just make the situation worse. If they are old enough to rob a car at 4am and drive it, they are old enough to face lawful consequences!

Cannesdo · 15/08/2026 10:04

The Journal this morning is leading with a story about the Gardai having to deal with numerous incidents of car thefts and cars being driven at speed, day and night, many filmed on TikTok on the east coast of Ireland.
Lives are being put at risk - Gardai pursuing them, other road users, pedestrians and the thieves lives too.
But soft justice will prevail, the criminals don’t care, hands will be wringed and it continues. 😢

I agree with this in a way - I wouldn't suggest that the parents be accountable IF I thought that the kids were going to be held to account.

All these kids live streaming from stolen cars - who is paying their phone bill?? Any parent who continues to pay that phone bill i will never understand.

I get that they are young but I think any young person caught in a stolen car like this should not be allowed hold a driver's license until they are at least 25.

The headline on the RTE News App this morning “A number of people have died and serious injuries have been reported after a two car crash on the M9 at Moone, Co Kildare……..”
“……A vehicle was travelling southbound on the northbound carriageway of the M9 when it hit a car….”
My heart goes out to those people in the second car. Heartbreaking for them and their loved ones.😢

ApologiseAndJustify · 16/08/2026 10:43

Brenda Power in today's independent but behind a pay wall. The headline captures this crash and Irish society at the moment perfectly. Pity our overlords in government and opposition dont see it and act in it. Its Here

Im surprised Irish Independent keep publishing her commentary as she doesn't obey the narrative.

Rondayvu · 16/08/2026 11:02

The kildare crash has just come up on crimeworld on fb. Jesus christ twice in a week and this time fatalities. People blaming the gardai? Its insanity.

parallolo · 16/08/2026 11:16

This is just awful, and gives the impression that lawlessness rules. I read that three young women and a child were heading to the airport on holiday presumably, all either seriously or critically injured. As for the victims in the other car, well I'm joining some dots here, since the Garda Fiosru (Investigations) is involved again.

ApologiseAndJustify · 16/08/2026 11:36

Your honour i plead for a non custodial sentence as my client was disadvantaged from birth, parents were addicts, fell in with the wrong crowd, diagnosed with ADHD and depression, never had a chance. Be that one person that recognises society and the states failing of my client.
Those people he crashed into were privileged in a way my client never was as they had jobs and got to go on holidays and paid taxes just not enough taxes to give my client the life he was entitled to. Their suffering even in death should not be apportioned to my client.

There is a law in Australia that stops teenagers driving more than a certain number of others, I forget the detail.

Re-open Spike Island or similar. Anyone remember the time joy riders were all sent there. It's a tourist attraction now ironically.

There is a law in Ireland where you are meant to drive the right way down a motorway however if you are a teenaged shitebag who steals cars for the craic and drive down the wrong way for tiktok views the laws seem not to be so scary.
