Thank you @sammylady37 for posting that

I presume it was the absence of DNA that disproved JL had assaulted her. Can he be charged with perjury, I wonder? She never remembered him; that was one of the reasons her evidence seemed ‘inconsistent’ according to the DPP. It does appear he was only there to bolster McG’s claim that she ‘had sex with multiple men that night.’ What an absolute fool JL was. I really hope there is some legal consequence for him, and for McG. Not sure if the DPP can reopen this, as apparently the case was considered twice but not prosecuted. On the other hand, at least it wasn’t prosecuted and failed, so possibly McG could yet be charged?? (Not a lawyer)

I assume the jury found his evidence to be unreliable. The prosecution's goal seemed to be to discredit him - they pointed out McGregor had paid for his legal fees. They put forward that he was there as a patsy.

Through my vast experience of listening to many crime podcasts 🤣 - I would assume that she had to include him in her case because he had put himself into it. If she hadn't it would have raised the possibility for the Jury that he had done it. The medical evidence pointed to rape and assault so anyone who claimed to have sex with her had to go into the case.

Lallydallydune · 22/11/2024 19:47

I'd say the second man said that he had sex with her just to try to discredit her.

FancyRedRobin · 22/11/2024 19:55

Why is the award so low? It's a very small sum.

I don’t have a link to hand, but the quantum of award for civil cases is limited. It’s something like €550k for quadriplegia, so you work backwards from there. The judge made reference to it when charging the Jury.

Unbelievable news this evening. I’m thrilled for Nikita & every woman here in Ireland. I was worried it wasn’t going to go her way but the jury could see what a filthy, entitled, lying rat he is.
He will now forever be Conor McGregor..THE RAPIST!
Dee may not have committed a crime but she is an enabler. By sticking with him and allowing whatever fucked up arrangement they have to continue makes her complicit. They are a disgusting pair of vermin. What role model is she for her daughter? Or her sons for that matter.
I hope Nikita can move on from this with her partner and little girl. Well done Nikita..Bualadh Bos 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Lallydallydune · 22/11/2024 20:56

Now nikita has been successful, I think other people are being braver. They are posting more things about him online.

I see people posting on other forums that he as allegedly assaulted and paid off women before.

I'm not sure we can assume Dee would be allowed to leave even if she wanted to. She's partnered with a horribly violent, incredibly rich rapist and has four young children with him. There's more than one explanation for why she's still there.

Yes I agree that Dee is probably too afraid to leave him even if she wanted to. He has a lot of violent connections.

Honestly she looks like a shell of a human and I have no doubt she has seen the worst of him many times. I strongly doubt she could leave.

fairycakes1234 · 22/11/2024 22:21

I live quite close to where he owns a pub, I wouldn't set foot in it, hopefully others now will boycott it, he is a disgrace of a man, he can wear whatever fancy suits he wants but he is a scumbag through and through!! Delighted for Nikita, she had her name dragged through the mud, I can only imagine what's going on in the McGregor house, he will not be happy with this at all, he was full sure he'd get off!!

mollyfolk · 22/11/2024 22:28

She was ashamed of him. She couldn’t look up.

I can’t but feel sorry for her as well. The horror of knowing the kids will know as well: the thoughts of them going into school. She must know, more than anyone what he’ll capable of.

mollyfolk · 22/11/2024 22:40

Interesting point to note that Phil Sutcliff long time associate of CMG and in his entourage today is running for election in DSC.

Common sense policies apparently...

honeyrider · 23/11/2024 00:39

Fortunately it wasn't Judge Martin Nolan presiding over this case as he'd have let Conor McGregor off like he does with other rapists and abusers the whole time.

It was a jury case, so I’m not sure your point stands here.

I know what you mean.

Nolan would've punished her for being a strong rape survivor.

The judge was influencing them with his remarks though

Lallydallydune · 23/11/2024 09:52

He's a very aggressive looking man.

I walked by him once in dublin .

He honestly looked like if someone looked at him the wrong way, he would punch them

Why is the award so low? It's a very small sum.

It was mentioned on RTE news that a lower award can make it harder to get an appeal approved because an excessive award can often be used as reason for appeal so possibly it was intentionally on the lower side

MarieDeGournay · 23/11/2024 10:28

I'm hacked off at the way commentators are talking about 'people who are sexually assaulted' 'victims of gender-based violence', I even heard one saying 'women - and men - who are raped..' Even the Dublin RCC was talking about 'people' not women - but that doesn't surprise me as they have dealt with male clients for years now.

It must be named for what it is: violence against WOMEN. MALE violence against women to be precise, but if they just said 'women' I'd be satisfied.

Obviously some men are subjected to sexual violence by other men, and they deserve justice and support. But it's a tiny number and it's not part of an epidemic of sexual violence by men on other men. The fact that brave Nikita Hand is a woman is central to what happened that awful night in 2018.

Violence against women is a global scourge:
Globally, an estimated 736 million women—almost one in three—have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both at least once in their life (30 per cent of women aged 15 and older). This figure does not include sexual harassment.
Facts and figures: Ending violence against women | UN Women – Europe and Central Asia

It's violence against WOMEN. Name it. If it's not named, it can't be stopped.

Nikita Hand herself said in her statement :

"I want to show every girl and boy that you can stand up for yourself"

Interesting point. This whole case is obviously more about the principle than the money for Nikita. More power to her.

WaveyGodshawk · 23/11/2024 12:07

It's been reported on now, that her house was broken into and her partner stabbed.
Pity the jury didn't have that information when deciding on the damages.
I hope to god he has to pay her legal costs.
Her poor little daughter having to call 999.
More trauma

sammylady37 · 22/11/2024 19:21

It’s nothing to do with the CPS and they have no jurisdiction in the matter.

That's why she decided to go down the civil route. In light of the new evidence they have to reopen and the case. There's a rapist running around loose on the streets. Is it still the case her word against his even though doctors have never seen anything like it. They had to use forceps to take the tampon out.

ThatRareUmberJoker · 23/11/2024 13:44

@sammylady37 I read your second post it explains everything. My second question is will he get the chance to appeal against yesterday's decision?
