I think I'll vote for Jim Gavin. I don't want to support either Connolly or Humphreys, and I don't want to hand in a defaced vote. And I always vote, on principle.

If he gets elected it is then back to the useless gobshites who have tried to prevent us having proper debate to sort out the mess they have made.

That is my plan too. I will put humphries no 2 as I don't want her less than I don't want Connolly.

Jim Gavin isn't on the poll anymore. He pulled out over a week ago. It's a two-horse race now between Connolly and Humphreys

DeanElderberry · 13/10/2025 19:47

He is still on the ballot paper, that's the point. They had printed them and couldn't withdraw them in time. He said he was pulling out of the race, but he's still there to be voted for. This has happened in the past when a candidate died between printing the ballot papers and the election.

This gives the electorate a unique opportunity to make a protest vote that has to be counted on the same basis as any other vote. Anything else - writing on the ballot paper, not voting at all, makes no real impression. And I really feel like protesting at the way the parties have conspired to prevent a proper campaign.

If Gavin gets elected, he will be sworn in, should immediately resign, and then we get a new election within 60 days.

If he doesn't do the right thing - he can't be worse than the other pair.

I also read somewhere that the minister for housing (presumably he's director of elections or something) can call a new election under some obscure rule so if Gavin wins or possibly if he gets enough votes to materially affect the result he can call a new election.

Public opinion is a funny thing, isn't?

There has been a lot of talk - and more than talk, in some cases - about rejecting genderwoo and the 'woke' agenda being foisted on the Irish people by an elite, and then along comes a presidential candidate who supported the Family Amendment which was roundly rejected by the electorate, and is completely TWAW/as many genders as you're having yourself/define yourself whatever way you like, not a problem.

You'd think that the electorate would reject somebody who is so much at odds with public opinion as expressed in the Referendum, and that even a weak alternative candidate would be preferable to having such a staunch supporter of genderwoo as President.

Vox populi, vox dei. AllegedlyWink

Pillow Queens: ‘When we’re seeing trans friends’ rights being taken we absolutely let the music take a back seat’ – The Irish Times

Careful you don't strain your eyes by rolling them too much after reading that!
I posted elsewhere that this reads like one of those obligatory 'Gosh we'd better say that trans ally stuff or we'll be uncool/cancelled/whatever' incantations 🙄

If their friends are British, the UK Supreme Court did NOT take any rights away from trans people; if their friends are Irish, WTF are they talking about??
So they are either misinformed, or suggestible, or insincere, or just irritatingly fad-following.

What's your big election question for Connolly and Humphreys? Let us know
The journal.ie is asking for questions to put to CC and HH.

honeyrider · 16/10/2025 22:59

Going on form so far CC won't answer the questions she's asked but will waffle on about something else and then reflect.

Alison Hyland of Tipp FM tried very hard to pin CC down on gender, but I can't imagine anyone else doing so, as the media is mostly very 'captured'.

A yes or no question about restoring the rights of women as a group defined by sex not gender ID would highlight CC's TWAW stance, but it's unlikely to be put by the journal.ie.
I'm sure they will curate the questions and remove anything that doesn't fit their pro-trans editorial line.

Mary Butler, minister of state for mental health, was on RTÉ's The Week in Politics on Sunday. Report from The Journal:

'All trans people want is respect': Minister emphasises importance of supporting trans youth

She highlighted the need to ensure access to counselling for young teens and provide proper endocrinology care for older adolescents,

“We won’t be stopped in providing the healthcare that these young people need,” she said.

'All trans people want is respect': Minister emphasises importance of supporting trans youth

She highlighted the need to ensure access to counselling for young teens and provide proper endocrinology care for older adolescents,

“We won’t be stopped in providing the healthcare that these young people need,” she said.

All of this sounds so out of touch, doesn't it?

“As a proud mother of a young trans man, I see every day the strength and resilience of our trans youth,” she said.
“There’s a very small cohort of young trans people that are really subjected to awful abuse, I, as a mother, am subjected to awful abuse in relation to a young person living their best life.”
“All they’re looking for is respect and support, and they’re not harming anyone”.

It depends on how you define 'harm', doesn't it, Minister?
There's individual harm, and then there's the harm to women's right to our own identity and language, and harm to the law by creating nonsensical categories like men who are legally women and vice versa, and harm to education by teaching children inaccuracies about sex and gender...

The harm is systemic, and will take years and years of unpicking.

Having the likes of Butler, Varadkar and Catherine Connolly coming out so strongly in favour of 'generwoo' recently shows that there is a long way to go.

A full-on TWAW president will be a big stumbling block to getting the GRA reconsidered, and opposing all the day-to-day erasure of women's rights and women's language.

It's all depressing, and in stark contrast to the chipping away that is happening across the Irish Sea, where court ruling after court ruling is reasserting women's rights.

To women, our rights and no less.
To trans people, their rights and no more.

Anyone watch Living with Lucy where she went to live with Caitlin Jenner in LA ?
She wasn’t afraid to ask hard questions.
Her host’s answers were very interesting.
Caitlin’s manager lived there too and you could have struck me down with a feather when it came out she had transitioned also.
Very interesting answers too from her. Worth a watch.

Sadly the manger was killed in a car crash some weeks later. RIP

Well said @MarieDeGournay,

Minister for State For Mental Health promoting harm to young people with mental distress

To quote from an open letter from Dr Joseph Chrysostom MBBS, MS (Gen Surg), FRCSEd:

You have been told that you can “change sex.” But biologically, that is impossible. Every one of your body’s trillions of cells carries either XX or XY chromosomes — a genetic signature that cannot be altered by hormones or surgery. To claim otherwise is, in my view, deeply misleading. Any doctor or institution promising to “feminise” or “masculinise” the human body without changing its DNA is, in effect, deceiving you...
Accountability is coming. I believe, those who performed, assisted, promoted, or profited from these procedures will one day have to answer for them.

That should be required reading for anybody in public life in Ireland - including Ministers for Mental Health - who supports gender ideology - they are free to disagree with it, but they should be presented with the scientific facts, and then invited to present their counter-arguments based on similarly verifiable facts.
TWAW and 'living their best life' doesn't cut it any more.

Have you seen the Róisín Murphy threads over on the Feminism Sex and Gender board?

She is absolutely on fire on X, being bombarded with insults from TRA trolls, and replying with intelligence and passion and knowledge.

After she got into such trouble for daring to say that puberty blockers were not good for children, she didn't back down, she obviously did a lot of reading and researching and thinking, and has come out as very gender-critical.
Really impressive - a whole new side to her!

Abhannmor · 27/10/2025 17:09

Much respect to Róisín Murphy. ❤️

Justwrong68 · 02/11/2025 11:49

I’m horrified! I was just reading about her banning from the Turkish festival, the misogynistic comments from trolls are disgusting. And the blessed Madonna sounds like an entitled little twat.

MaeveofConnaught · 02/11/2025 19:18

She is an incredibly strong woman 💚💜

Make it make sense! If you're in witness protection you are not allowed to have a new birth cert

"The High Court last year dismissed their case saying it would be disproportionate to insist that the State amend its system of registration of births and marriages “in order to reduce the level of any interference with the plaintiffs’ constitutional rights necessitated by their participation in the WSP”.
That court also said this should not be taken “as a discouragement to the State to place [the WSP] on a statutory basis”.
The couple were granted an appeal to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court delivered the judgment last week and then supplied it to the parties to ensure that no identifying information was inadvertently included before publishing it more generally on Thursday. That court dismissed the appeal in three concurring judgments.
In his judgment, Chief Justice Donal O’Donnell said the logic of the couple’s case was that all members of the family were entitled to birth certificates in assumed names, and in the case of the parents, a new marriage certificate.
He said it was plain they cannot on the right to an identity to obtain the relief they seek.
All of the family have a correct birth certificate and in the case of the parents and first three children, it has been provided by the State in fulfilment of that right, he said.
What they asserted was a right “to a deliberately false statement” as if it was an authentic and correct statement of fact, with an implied representation that it can be relied on without more and be backed by the State.
He said it was accepted that no one has a constitutional right to a birth certificate in terms of their own choosing, however sincerely they desire it."

This is going to be one to watch, though references to "her" frozen sperm make it quite incoherent.

You're right - to see serious journos having to say/write words like 'her frozen sperm' and 'her wife gave birth to her child' must surely have helped a lot of people realise just how completely divorced from scientific reality trans ideology is.
But it has to be spoken in tones of due reverence to the T which has taken over the LGB as the face of modern, tolerant Ireland🙄

Trans woman to bring High Court challenge over recognition of her as biological mother of child
Woman says if she has to claim to be the ‘father’ of child as part of the application, it would be an ‘offensive, discriminatory and unjust attack’ on her person, gender identity and legal status
