Hi Craicnetters!

I was looking for the other thread and see it's fallen way down the list so I decided to make a new one for all our daily musings ☘️

Who did you get to watch @honeyrider? I'm jealous!

The mens match was a cracker

We didn't stay to the end of the women's match, it was after the men's match which was over 4 hours.

JaneJeffer · 14/01/2025 13:19

Aah the gorgeous Italians 😍

Very easy on the eyes 😂

So, I have a relative from Northern Ireland who was visiting Kildare and whenever we would be go into a shop she would say to the staff out loud, ‘it’s ok, it’s just us foreigners’. The staff gave a strange look but didn’t say anything. Kinda looked a bit miffed.
Is that a derogatory term?

LadyEloise1 · 14/01/2025 16:57

That's very odd @ThatsWhatImTalkinAbout
I mean it's only been slightly over a 100 years ago when we were the one country ( albeit ruled by the British ).
Northern Irish people are not foreigners 😮

Yeah, I don’t understand why it needed to be said? I think they thought they were being funny. But it made no sense to me or anyone else.

Sad to hear Linda Nolan died, may she rest in peace.

How is everyone is prepping for Storm Éowyn?
I'm going to get extra bread, milk and eggs and of course toilet rolls 🤣 None of it will go to waste here anyway. But in all seriousness, I hope it's not as bad as predicted. We have a gas hob but I hate the thought of being without power for any length of time. I'll have my kindle fully charged and all the powerbanks too, and I've got a load of batteries for the torches. Hopefully it'll all be ok. I feel so sorry for anyone who works for ESB networks or any of the emergency services. The rest of us have the luxury of staying home and out of trouble.

JaneJeffer · 23/01/2025 07:07

I'm dreading it!

I'm scared of this one, and just hoping that various hills will lift the most damaging winds above roof and tree height. Glad I had my damaged chimney patched last month, hope the patch holds.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 23/01/2025 07:50

It sounds like it could be awful. If we lose the electricity, we will be goosed. No gas, no open fire. Everything is electric.

Thinking of you Jane.

LadyEloise1 · 23/01/2025 09:19

🤞🙏 it won't be as bad as predicted.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 23/01/2025 10:00

Northern Ireland has now gone red.
Crikey. We will have to hope for the best.

eggandonion · 23/01/2025 11:21

I went to dunnes to get something for my lunch and it was like Christmas Eve again.
So I bought 6 sliced pans, 12 tins of soup and 2 lots of 24 toilet rolls. Obviously.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 23/01/2025 12:13

Lol at egg😄 I have one Brennans. Hope I'll get through.

JaneJeffer · 23/01/2025 13:31

I think I'll hide behind the sofa with a bottle of Scotch until it goes away. I'm hoping the warnings are greatly exaggerated like the snow ones.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 23/01/2025 14:57

Sounds like a plan Jane!

Yes, I am really hoping that it's not as bad as they've made it out to be.

Stay safe everyone

DeanElderberry · 23/01/2025 15:05

I have been looking at the charts the weather buffs on boards.ie are posting. Possibly a mistake - it looks terrifying, particularly for the west - the worst bit seems to be likely to make landfall via Galway Bay.

loropianalover · 23/01/2025 16:09

We’re on the coast out West… sandbags ready, torches out, lots of snacks, cars gone up to higher ground just in case.

None of us will be going out so that’s fine but I do worry about the electricity being gone for days! Hopefully not.

DeanElderberry · 23/01/2025 16:15

Make sure you have a grab bag with passports, driving license, insurance, medical and other important documents ready for if you have to evacuate after the worst has passed. A change of underwear and your most treasured possessions too. I hope the threat turns out to have been exaggerated,

PabloTheGreat · 23/01/2025 17:17

I stock up as I live rurally but popped into dunnes for a bit more fresh provisions at lunchtime and it was like 2020 all over again.
We have heat and a camping stove for a cuppa, neighbours and relatives within walking distance have gas cookers so we can get stuff cooked there if we need. It's just annoying as we are low priority for getting power back on compared to bigger urban areas.

DeanElderberry · 23/01/2025 17:19

I live in hope that the many dairy farms round me mean that we'll be prioritised. Though they probably all have generators.

eggandonion · 23/01/2025 18:08

Our neighbour works for esb in a safely role...I think he has to do lines in emergency...but he has to spend a lot of time asking people if they can cut trees back from overhead lines. Most people say no.

loropianalover · 24/01/2025 05:21

fell asleep around 12 and was awake again by 2.30 - this is definitely the scariest storm I’ve ever experienced! We still have electricity luckily but guttering has fallen off, roof tiles gone, shed door gone, clothes line gone, neighbours have had 2 windows smash etc etc. There’s been no let up here at all for hours…
