Hi Craicnetters!

I was looking for the other thread and see it's fallen way down the list so I decided to make a new one for all our daily musings ☘️

It really is mad how different it is in each County, even from town to town. It's so hard believing the weather people as they usually get it so wrong.

I really feel for those suffering, nothing worse than no electricity and then no water 😞 now we have an ice warning for the whole Country, do we take that with a pinch of salt, I understand Country roads are affected more and those who live more rural.

I asked DH to get bread and milk on the way home, 5 supermarkets he has tried and they are sold out ! I actually do need these so feck that anyway, no sambos here, although I did stock up on those horrible part baked rolls at Christmas, might sell them to the kids.

DeanElderberry · 07/01/2025 20:03

Since we got a very explicit warning at the end of last week, I am a little baffled as to why anyone wouldn't have stocked up then. Admittedly, my location was in the middle of one of the alarming red blotches, but it seemed like a week to assume it might not be possible to go anywhere..

eggandonion · 07/01/2025 20:23

I keep odds and ends of bread and milk in my freezer since the great sliced pan horror a few years ago. Also extra toilet rolls since the covid panic.
Goodness it's very taxing being a domestic goddess!
I have made soup from the horrors in the veg drawer, I have some terrifying tomatoes waiting to be ratatouille. Then we move on to banana bread.

DeanElderberry · 07/01/2025 20:35

Having a few days when I eat all the weird stuff in tins and jars in FUN! And clears space to build up a stash of more weird stuff in jars and tins.

Tazmania is a beautiful island and the people are very friendly. My DS had told us the Aussies are very friendly and laid back and seem to have the work life balance right.

JaneJeffer · 08/01/2025 06:49

You've got me singing that jingle about Hobart that Capital Radio used to play when I lived in London @honeyrider Grin

I found our covid vaccine certificates earlier, dear me! What a strange time, it seems like it never happened.

JaneJeffer · 13/01/2025 11:51

It's like a weird dream now. I don't think I really processed it and those years are all a big blur.

Has anyone been to see the Drumcondra Tomatoes? Grin

I have a pre Christmas punnet of cherry tomatoes. They need to go to the bridge.

JaneJeffer · 13/01/2025 13:39

Maybe we could make countrywide shrines? Mould optional.

I don't know what's going on and don't want to ketchup catch up with it!

JaneJeffer · 13/01/2025 15:02

Don't let it passata you by Fuzzy

My cherry tomatoes are looking surprisingly fresh. I assume they are sprayed with something.

DeanElderberry · 13/01/2025 15:57

I'm surprised cherry tomato bridge hasn't become rat bridge. Maybe the urban foxes have eaten all the rodents.

Is this thread about any subject, all on the same thread? Like, can I just start typing straight after the last post about anything?

Yes, it's a general conversation thread and as it's on Craicnet, it has an Irish slant.

DeanElderberry · 13/01/2025 16:38

for instance: Isn't there a grand old stretch!

Taytocrisps · 13/01/2025 17:59

@DeanElderberry don't be too hasty! I think we're still at the slight stretch stage.

DeanElderberry · 13/01/2025 18:08

The evenings have been getting later since December 13th. Half an hour now, really noticeable,

eggandonion · 13/01/2025 18:10

I need a nice bright day to assess the stretch.
But realistically, I m open to any chat.
I join in things I know nothing about, I assume many mumsnetters live in Surrey.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 13/01/2025 18:33

I think we're turning the corner.
There's definitely a bit of a stretch up to 5pm now.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 13/01/2025 18:47

I did think we were starting to see a teeny bit of a stretch last week but this morning I got up in the dark and it seemed to stay dark all day 🙄 I much preferred the crisp dry bright days I cannot stand damp dullness.

@ThatsWhatImTalkinAbout welcome to the chat, you can tell we're all Irish as there's plenty of discussion about the weather!

honeyrider · 13/01/2025 19:59

It's coming up to 7am Tuesday morning here in Melbourne and I'm awake since 5am. DS1 is leaving Melbourne tonight around midnight and heading back to Dublin.

The four of us are going to the Australian Open today, it will be our last time we're all together for some time.

DH and myself leave on Thursday and need to be at the airport around 9am. I'm looking forward to getting home but I'm so sad and tearful at the thought of not seeing DS2 for a long time again and trying not to show it. He loves it here and wants to settle here.

We're staying two nights in Singapore on the way home, it's extremely humid there at the moment.

JaneJeffer · 14/01/2025 12:54

Who did you get to watch @honeyrider? I'm jealous!
