Hi Craicnetters!

I was looking for the other thread and see it's fallen way down the list so I decided to make a new one for all our daily musings ☘️

Where are you @loropianalover? Are you in the west?

eggandonion · 24/01/2025 11:33

How's everyone now?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 24/01/2025 12:00

We're south east and all fine thank God. Very windy of course and I wouldn't want to be out in it, but there's no damage around me.

honeyrider · 24/01/2025 12:04

It wasn't anywhere near as bad as predicted here in Waterford City though the west of the county got it bad enough.

Yes far out Co. Galway on the beach. We got a right battering, definitely the first time I actually felt afraid for my windows 🤣 bright and sunny now but lots of gusts. Electricity still hanging on by some miracle, as everyone around us is without it.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 24/01/2025 12:10

Phew @loropianalover ye got a right hammering. Glad you kept your power. I feel for those waiting to be reconnected.

Apileofballyhoo · 24/01/2025 14:05

We got our electricity back about an hour ago. I'm glad everyone is ok. Sorry to hear you've had so much damage @loropianalover . I have family in Galway, they are without power but ok.

JaneJeffer · 24/01/2025 15:23

Phew we survived! No electricity and internet only occasionally working for a few minutes at a time.

Phew Jane💐

UtopiaPlanitia · 24/01/2025 16:46

Glad to hear you all got through the storm safely. It was so loud here in the Northeast from about 4am-6am that I couldn’t sleep - very scary sounds happening outside. We lost electricity overnight but hopefully it’ll be back on again soon. Thank god for a gas hob, we were able to heat water in a saucepan for tea and toast bread (Brennans, naturally 😆) in the frying pan 👍😊

honeyrider · 24/01/2025 16:58

Fortunately escaped the worst of it, no damage or loss of power here. It wasn't as bad here as predicted, other storms have been a lot worse.

eggandonion · 24/01/2025 17:34

I'm finding it really cold, so no heating must be really hard.
We went for a walk earlier and got caught in hail. But survived!

DeanElderberry · 25/01/2025 16:24

No structural damage that I can see - if I trudge out into the field next door that may change. Very glad I got the chimney 'patched' in December - I doubt it would have survived that. The house was shaking at times. Electricity and internet just back after nearly 36 hours. Lovely to be able to start warming the place, and to flush the loos properly.

My big fail was forgetting how to connect up my gas rings to the yellow cylinder - I'll be in the hardware store next week making careful notes. I managed to survive on water for tea and canned soup warmed up on the wood burner.

Thanks to Met Eireann for giving us the warning and to the ESB for getting us re-connected.

eggandonion · 25/01/2025 17:21

The forecast was very accurate. I'm frozen today!

LadyEloise1 · 28/01/2025 13:35

Oh my !
The HSE has ordered an external reviews into the delivery of 9 babies in Portiuncla hospital.
The HSE has said the rate of referrals for brain injuries was higher than expected.
It's not sounding good 🥲

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 28/01/2025 13:54

Oh I just read that @LadyEloise1 it's worrying, especially for anyone currently attending there. Hopefully the investigation will be quick and they'll know what changes need to be made asap.

LadyEloise1 · 28/01/2025 14:09

My heart goes out to the families already affected 🥲

Not the first time there's been an investigation there unfortunately.

Poor families and children involved.

DeanElderberry · 29/01/2025 19:59

Had tea this morning with a bunch of women whose children, and in some cases grandchildren, were born there, but none of them any the wiser. All agreed that it is dreadful for anyone currently planning to go there.

'For the day that's in it' - St Bridget's Day and Imbolc.

I hope there's a turn not just in the season, but in the lives of all the people suffering at the moment, and may they have light, warmth and comfort.

honeyrider · 06/02/2025 14:31

In the day ward after a minor surgical gynae procedure this morning enjoying the benefits of the GA. Everyone has been so lovely and kind.

JaneJeffer · 06/02/2025 19:45

Hope you're home and feeling better now @honeyrider

Best wishes @honeyrider 💐
I hope you're feeling comfortable and resting at home.

honeyrider · 07/02/2025 00:31

Not a bother on me, just the very occasional period like cramp that passes in seconds, not bad enough for pain relief. The fentanyl must be wearing off.

I'm very impressed with how well I was looked after and how lovely and kind all the staff were and this was a public hospital.
