Did you read the full Twitter thread?

I have every sympathy for the poor man, but the statement was inflammatory.

I totally respect what he said. And by law , he is allowed to say what he wants in his victim statement. And he said extremely valid snd intelligent points.

So I think he should have said it. His right in court is important.

But yes the knock on effect of that, is that it will inflame people in Ireland who were any way against foreigners.

Shakennotstirred1 · 23/11/2023 23:58

His girlfriend, the woman he has life long plans made with was murdered in broad daylight while she was going for a run. The man is entitled to say whatever the hell he wants here.
Inflammatory no but he is telling his truth, it's HIS statement & no one can take that away from him.

Shakennotstirred1 · 23/11/2023 23:50

The same is happening in Ireland. So much in going unreported unfortunately.

I'm sorry this is the case. City folks might be inured to crimes but outside the cities we aren't.

babbygabby · 23/11/2023 23:56

(Ashling not Aisling btw, we should respect her enough to spell her name correctly)

That was autocorrect (I have a number of Aislings in my contacts) but thank you for correcting me.

I hear you, I have an Aisling in my house (or appalling as my phone still likes to assume) and it took some persuasion to get Ashling's name written. Grin

What would you have preferred it to say?

I agree but then is that his responsibility? And people who are already against foreigners don’t necessarily need fuel.

justasking111 · 23/11/2023 23:57

Perhaps folks are tired of appeasing the crimes occurring and the weakness of the judicial system which is letting them down

Read the Twitter thread. Women have been murdered in Ireland forever, by men with names like Mick Murphy and Brendan O'Donnell. Each time we say what a disgrace it is, how women are no longer safe, as if they ever were.

It's male violence, not immigrant violence.

No and I agree he can say what he wants. But I can understand why mainstream broadcasters may have chosen not to air it in full (if that is the case I didn't see). As is their editorial privilege.

You wouldn't be parroting that in parts of Yorkshire.

I don't even know what you mean by that.

Shakennotstirred1 · 24/11/2023 00:06

What's inflammatory about the statement was RTE & the mainstream Irish medias refusal to publish it. I read it on Gript, Twitter & Facebook.
His statement should have been shown on RTE news but no. Once again it proves that RTE is run under state censorship & will not report anything against the governments values & policies.

Mooshamoo · 24/11/2023 00:06

Yes. There have been many murders of Irish women by Irish men
That's true.

Notaflippinclue · 24/11/2023 00:07

And Lancashire and Derbyshire and on & on

babbygabby · 24/11/2023 00:08

the problem with censoring it ( & I don’t know if the media didn’t broadcast it all or not) is that in itself also becomes inflammatory.

Mooshamoo · 24/11/2023 00:10

I was feeling very sad about ashling Murphy today. I live near where she lived and I have gone for a run on that canal she was running on, many times.

On Facebook today, a picture appeared of her murderers hand, his hand was scratched very badly with marks from her car key. And the caption was "look how hard she fought for her life". I don't know if that picture is true as it was on Facebook and I know that's not a reliable source, but it just made me terribly sad thinking of her again..terrible case

Sockmate123 · 24/11/2023 00:12

Please tell me that rumour isn't true and that the little one pulls through.....

It's awful. And even more disgusting that the Irish media & RTÉ didn't report her boyfriends statement.
Utterly disrespectful to Ashling, her partner & family.
Censorship & propoganda is at the helm of our state owned national broadcaster.

I'm hearing the same & that they don't want to announce it as the riots will escalate. Heartbreaking.

You could say welcome to new Ireland in one way,

But them remember all the Irish women that went missing in the 1990s

Yorkshire - that's where I'm at. It's terrifying to be a woman here.
On my street there are some HMOs of the temporary accommodation type that are housing male migrants only.
What best describes the situation is this: my ex husband regularly pretends to be my current partner or my brother. It helps.

I moved here not long ago from the South East. I can guarantee that no one living down South has ANY clue on the situation elsewhere in the country or how it has come to blows in Dublin.
