they in fact made the literal opposite life choice
Usually funded by the people who left sending money home.

That's complete bollocks you just made up because you don't like that the utter stupidity of a point people make to try and seem clever has been pointed out. It's a really, really, really stupid point. People left behind were left to deal with the brain drain that occurs when large numbers of their compatriots leave the country. The fact that so many emigrated made it harder for those who stayed behind, it wasn't some sort of boon.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 23/11/2023 23:32

It's absolutely disgusting that a crowd of absolute scumbags have decided to hijack an attack on your children and use it is a reason for arson, thuggery and looting.

It doesn't reflect the vast majority of Irish people who are appalled by their behaviour.

Yes, our streets and children should be safe but this isn't going to help or resolve anything.

Huge criminal damage done, transport shut down leaving many stranded or having to walk home during this, retail outlets destroyed just before black Friday, there are no winners here.

The friends and families of those injured, the emergency services personnel. I'm sure there's many households stressed and worried about loved ones tonight.

Nationality and race doesn't make someone carry out such acts. There's good and bad in every society. The man who dislodged the knife from this mam's gand and prevented further injuries was Brazilian which isn't mentioned at all.

It's absolutely awful what has happened tonight. Just awful. Nothing can justify anything that happened today.

We need touched jail sentences for criminal activity. We need garda to have body cameras, tazers etc. If we want them to deal with criminal activity, we need to equip them to do so.

Yes and I wrote all these articles as well

That's the bottom line @ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees

Believe what you like I couldn't care less if you can't handle the truth.

Another stupid post because you don’t have a valid argument for the previous stupid post.

JaneJeffer · 23/11/2023 23:37

I'm not the one who looks stupid here @babbygabby

babbygabby · 23/11/2023 23:38

Why do you have a police force in Ireland if you believe in mob rule. Is it just because all the other countries have one?

what does this even mean?!

Shakennotstirred1 · 23/11/2023 23:38

Dublin airport stabbing happened a few weeks ago. These are not isolated incidents.. The stabber called it "a cry for help". Those poor men, aisling Murphy, these three children with their carer. These are NOT isolated incidents, it's getting more frequent. Lots of sexual assault attacks not making the media.

@Loulou599 is it a single isolated incident? are there any other tensions eg housing? I don’t know what point I’m missing? I making the point that I don’t think the reaction by some in Ireland whilst wrong is completely left field when looking at other countries. I wouldn’t say attacks by foreign nationals are an everyday occurrence in the UK & as already mentioned one reaction has been an increase in far right terrorism. Attacking the Gardai is probably not so comparable to other countries but I’ve always thought there were tensions between some sections of society & the Gardai.

It is not a single isolated incident. There was another major incident last week.

Two years ago, a young Irish woman was murdered in daylight by a foreign national in Ireland.
The case took a long time to cone to court and finish and it only finished last week. He was convicted last week.

The Irish woman's boyfriend read out a victim statement last week that was broadcast on Irish news and online. Everyone in Ireland heard it and were talking about it.

In the mans victim statement he said " why was a man allowed into Ireland, who never worked in Ireland for the ten years he was here, received benefits the whole time, never contributed to society, and murdered a woman"

This inflamed tensions all over Ireland

The actions today are a result of what happened today, and also a result of the murder case last week

justasking111 · 23/11/2023 23:42

It's not just about immigration, it's about housing, farming, jobs a lunatic government pushing through climate change measures at all costs. A Garda that is hamstrung for political reasons.

Like I said a powder keg

It's not bollocks. Janejeffer is completely right. There was a huge period of time where men went to work in England, and sent their wages home to their wives in Ireland.

How can you say it's not true! It absolutely is true that Irish people worked abroad and sent money back to ireland

babbygabby · 23/11/2023 23:44

I’m definitely aware about other cases like Aisling & other simmering tensions. I was questioning the poster @Loulou599 who said it was a result of a “single isolated incident”

I'm in Wales, in a small village up the valley boat people male were ensconced in a four star hotel. During their stay there were 3 rapes and one knifing. Not a whisper of this was reported in the media . There's a lot of anger here.

I read this Twitter thread the other day following the Ashling Murphy trial (Ashling not Aisling btw, we should respect her enough to spell her name correctly).

It's sobering reading, and apt tonight.

The same is happening in Ireland. So much in going unreported unfortunately.

I'm upset that the mainstream media RTE etc didn't quote her boyfriends statement. It really shook me.. The poor man.

Mooshamoo · 23/11/2023 23:51

When the man read out the victim statement, there was something particularly powerful about it
There was something about his suffering and what he said, that really riled people up,. Which was a good and bad thing, it was important he could express his opinion, but but it was going to inflame tensions about foreign nationals

babbygabby · 23/11/2023 23:53

It’s normal for immigrants to send money home but I’m not sure what that has to do with the rioters today?

Did you read the full Twitter thread?

I have every sympathy for the poor man, but the statement was inflammatory.

That was autocorrect (I have a number of Aislings in my contacts) but thank you for correcting me.

Perhaps folks are tired of appeasing the crimes occurring and the weakness of the judicial system which is letting them down

fuchsteufelswild · 23/11/2023 23:57

I think that no expression of grief whatsoever should be held back in the name of keeping the peace. Not if it's a migrant killed by a mob emboldened by racism (which has become more rampant in my own country), not if it's Ashling. Makes no difference, shouldn't make any. And these things need addressing.

Like come on, it's not rocket science.
