They could send a few Dubs out to work as well.

That's for sure and the rest of Ireland.

Wonderingforever · 24/11/2023 11:27

Agreed that can happen.

But what's the point your trying to make? That there should no background checks ever completed in society because it won't catch everyone who is a risk to others?

IMustDoMoreExercise · 24/11/2023 11:34

Theblacksheepandme · 24/11/2023 11:02

Many Vetted Irish men, abused children. The scouts and swimming being examples. Vetting didn't stop this happening so how is vetting foreign national men going to work?

Immigrants are not the cause of poor healthcare, housing etc. It is easy to blame immigrants. When I was a child the healthcare system was terrible and there was not a massive influx of foreign nationals at that time. Who's fault was it then?

Yes, but if you have a bad health system and then you have an extra 10 million immigrants that need to use it, it would be much worse than if there were 10 million fewer immigrants.

Would you rather be in a waiting list for an operation of 1000 people or 1,001,000 people even if the health system is bad?

Notagainwellreally · 24/11/2023 11:37

Theblacksheepandme · 24/11/2023 11:19

Being able to check someone's working with children means nothing if the person has a clean record. There were plenty abusers walking around with clean records.

Vetting would help. It may not be a perfect solution but it would work to a certain extent and that would be an improvement. Ok, bad types with clean records would be overlooked, but at least known criminals could be be prevented from entering.

Ashling Murphy's murderer had a criminal record in Slovakia.

Irish-born people can be vile murderers too, that is true. No need to add to their number is there? Criminals are not welcome here.

It's like a horrible rerun of when I lived in London in the 80s. Unemployment, homelessness, drugs and crime were the lot of many people. While others partied after Thatchers tax cuts and privatisations. Riots were actually quite useful for the Law and Order Party.

Politicians are blaming the local yobs for now. They can flip it around later perhaps. Allowing migrants to work seems like a bit of a no brainer ?

Yep, I was just a kid in the eighties, but the current social situation in Dublin is putting me in mind of the eighties New York of American Psycho. Abandon all hope ye who enter here...

AfterSchoolWorry · 24/11/2023 11:51

Yes there were rumours on comment sections on different platforms.

Some of stem from a video that was posted on Twitter (X) earlier in the day on reddit that showed the scene. Onlookers were saying she was 'lifeless'.

But I also think some were disseminated more cynically to inflame the situation.

Shameful.

I'm praying the little girl will live, I'm agnostic but part of me wants to believe somehow there is a greater power that can help her.

I'm afraid though. 😞

I would rather the healthcare system be improved. If we don't take in anymore immigrants because we're full up, a waiting list is fuck all use to you because you wont have doctor's to see you or ti perform operations.

My point is that people are obsessed with blaming these unsavoury, violent, foreign national men coming into "our" country. Vetting may have helped for Ashling Murphy's murderer but does the man that did the stabbings have a criminal record? It is a flawed idea. Do you want everyone from Europe that wants to live and work here to be vetted or what way do you suggest it be implemented?

So you would rather that people in India in Africa couldn't get their operations because all their doctors have gone to Ireland?
You're a nice person aren't you?

Wonderingforever · 24/11/2023 12:18

Yes actually I do.

I agree with the wider thought process of Europe apart from unvetted free movement.

I didnt say I was obsessed. You have interrupted like that to support your own argument.

I said we have a responsibility to reduce risk to people who already live here. In all ways which means crime/resources such as funding/housing/health etc.

And your point about the having to seek doctors and nurses from abroad while we export scores of doctors and nurses is just a supporting argument that long term failures of government policy is impacting on immigration and emigration from this country.

Which is having significant issues on wider social issues.

Yeah, that's exactly what I want. I want all the Africans and Indians to suffer. What a numpty.😂

Also I remember a documentary which said that Romanian doctors are having to work into their 90s because all the younger doctors have left for Western Europe.

But that's okay, as long as you get your operation isn't it?

I think that you are the numpty. If you can't see that, that is the result of what you want.

So who's going to do the operations in India and Africa If I'm such a numpty?

I'm sure you have an answer for that as you are so clever.

Theblacksheepandme · 24/11/2023 12:27

IMustDoMoreExercise · 24/11/2023 12:19

So what exactly do you think is going to happen if all their doctors come here?

Did you perhaps think that perhaps our healthcare system and treatment of doctors and nurses in Ireland has had a catastrophic effect on our need for foreign doctors. The doctors and nurse's are leaving this country because of this.

If a foreign doctor chooses to move here for a better life than what they have, they are more than welcome. Who do you think is to blame in Romania if doctors are leaving?

Do you also suggest that if we don't accept Romanian doctors that they would then be forced to stay in their country?

justasking111 · 24/11/2023 12:30

My mam now 89 told me stories of her mother who as a child would walk past security with her dolls pram under the dolls blanket would be guns I'm talking 1900 when my granny was born. The old have long memories and many stories of oppression which get passed down.

The Irish have a long fuse but when they are riled enough those stories bubble up. We're not just poets, artists and musicians

Of course it is the EU's open border policy which is to blame for Romanian doctors leaving.

The Romanian healthcare system was only in crisis since they had free movement.

Before that hardly anyone left.

And yet they left the UK the political reasons being Brexit. So if they've left Ireland as well they just wanted out. But why, crap health care providers/managers from the top down?

So let me get this clear. You are in favour of forcing Indians, Africans and Romanians in the medical professional to stay in their own country because there won't be anyone to operate on people from these countries otherwise. How considerate of you? Crikey you have given me a laugh, considering the deluge of racism on this thread.

Mooshamoo · 24/11/2023 13:01

Another point that is relevant I think is that all humans want power.

The Irish absolutely it when they were treated like they were subhuman in England. And rightfully so.

howeber I now see lots of Irish people treating foreigners like dirt , in Ireland.

Which shows that humans are the same anywhere. They don't like other people coming into their territory. And people like a sense of superiority everywhere.

The English felt superiority over the Irish for a while.

Now that loads of immigrants are coming to Ireland,

I have definitely seen a lot of Irish people demonstrate superiority, and a lot of "we are way better than them" from Irish people.

No one country is really worse than the otherm the same pattern gets repeated everywhere

Mooshamoo · 24/11/2023 13:02

That should say
*The Irish absolutely hated it

ChimneyPot · 24/11/2023 13:03

Plans for further rioting today have caused Temple Street Children’s Hospital to cancel appointments and send some staff home.

I think this shows the riots have absolutely no interest in the welfare of children.

A chance to riot and loot encouraged and funded by right wing elements.
