@Shakennotstirred1

You're just another reactionary right winger taking a tragic event to spout hate online against immigrants. People with your ideology have been at it for centuries, but you never have any positive effect on society. Rather it’s just an outlet for power seekers to channel the aimless rage of a section of society who, having not made the best of the opportunities presented to them being born in a wealthy and safe European country, are therefore filled with resentment and directionless anger. So they take the opportunity to throw the blame elsewhere - immigration, corrupt politicians, the left or whatever. Wherever the professional opportunists like that politician in the Netherlands tell them to. Much easier to find the scapegoats external than to admit that ones failures are due to one’s own defects.

So fantastically and eloquently said.

The BBC says the attacker was an Irish citizen who has lived there for over 20 years - where are people getting that he's an immigrant?!

Yes he is a citizen with Irish documentation but was born in Algeria so is Algerian by his birth nationality.

See what I mean @anotherside

@Theblacksheepandme

I know. It was only due to the fact that there was some casual racism and illogical nonsense posted earlier on this thread from a couple of other posters as well as the one above that I thought it worth refuting a bit of the nonsense.

Shakennotstirred1 · 24/11/2023 09:43

So naming a person's nationality is now racism? No it is not, it is fact.

pontipinemum · 24/11/2023 09:50

Sorry I haven't read the full thread. I'm just thinking about the women that needed to go to the Rotunda last night. Must have been awful.

I think there has been a lot of noise from the far right the last while, I've seen it online and show at the Dail the other week. They are pissed off and are being completely ignored. This was their excuse to combust. Now I think a lot of those involved were just scum bags who wanted any reason.

But unless the gov take this seriously we are going to end up in a Brexit situation or like the Netherlands. I hear it all around me 'I'm not racist/ against immigration but enough is enough' is the general sentiment I hear.

As far as I can see from official news the little girl and the woman are still in serious condition but alive. The parents were kept away from the school on a back street for 20 mins I can't imagine how they felt.

As it is the international day to protest violence against Women this week, I hope to see Irish Women out on the streets non violently protesting male violence …which is what the stabbings were, and the subsequent mob behaviour. Needs to be done without reference to any nationality/ politics. But to show that we as women will not be divided on this

@pontipinemum yes my children were born in the Rotunda & traffic in & out is horrendous at the best of times. Checkups, emergencies, deliveries all vital. Shocking it was shut off but obviously it was a safety hazard.

The riots were horrendous. The mood is changing rapidly in the country & people will not take much more. It will not take much to push the pendulum to the far right. It also shows the govt have lost control of the country.

Three children stabbed in broad daylight after school with their carer. Ashling Murphy murdered in broad daylight going for a run. The poor men in Sligo murdered because they were gay.
The German tourist stabbed in broad daylight in Dublin airport.

The government have blood on their hands.

Perhaps also spare a thought for the 100s of non-Irish born staff trying to do their brilliant jobs at the Rotunda who may now be scared to walk home alone at night.

Because they seemingly have nothing else to offer apart from A) terrorising decent law abiding immigrants (such as many of the workers at the Rotunda) who are essential to the economic and social fabric of the country and B) smashing up the capital city. They’ve been indulged enough

Yes but their birth nationality will never change! Your passport states your place of birth

AInightingale · 24/11/2023 10:01

100%, @lesdeluges. What we're seeing is the tragic and predictable outcome of good old-fashioned hubris, I think. Irish politicians actively invited this wave of immigration, and have been completely overwhelmed by it. They have no idea where to house and provide for all of these new arrivals. Accommodation and services cannot be magicked out of thin air. Were they expecting a miracle from the Gospels? It's one of the most foolish decisions any govt has ever made.

Remember the days when the 'newcomers' in Ireland were the Protestants who'd been there for 500 years 😂

Yes spare a thought for them & ALL the folk (Irish included😏) petrified to walk the streets after three children & their carer were stabbed walking home from school.

Leo promised loads of doctors, engineers, accountants, academics who who add to Irish society 🤔 This is only the start of it. We are living & participating in a huge social experiment at the hands of this courrupt, godawful government.

However I did feel McEntee looked shook on the news. She has small children herself. Maybe it's finally hit home what a monster state she has created.

AInightingale · 24/11/2023 10:06

@firstpasttheposter You do know the history of the Plantation don't you? How it blighted our country with religious wars for four hundred years? Wtf would Ireland want or need any more religious conflict and population displacement given the tragedy of our history?

Yekaterinap · 24/11/2023 10:08

Shakennotstirred1 · 24/11/2023 09:43

But you see this is how mad the west is turning and it is being watched.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 24/11/2023 10:13

Society and civilisation are about the majority buying into the values. If the values that the majority cherish break down, what actually holds a nation together? What legitimacy does law have if it has not got the goodwill of the majority through the protection of their values?

I'm not saying Ireland is lost and all gone to anarchy, but you are seeing the edges of this. It is corrosive.

It was meant to be a lighthearted comment about how things have changed. Yes, the religious wars that engulfed Europe, and carried on for centuries after in Ireland, were truly horrific.
