Perhaps people asking those questions and are church goers could ask the Priest that on Sunday. Considering the Priests and Church were one of the most prolific abusers of women and children in this Country

and for those who aren’t Church attendees?

They'll have to look for other squirrels...

angsty · 24/11/2023 08:16

To the person who said upthread that you can't change your nationality, yes, you can.

You can change your citizenship but your birth nationality will never change eg the knife attacker yesterday was described as an Algerian national with Irish citizenship. He was NOT described as an Irish national because he is an Algerian one.

LadyEloise1 · 24/11/2023 08:20

As @Chickenkeev writes "......Any sort of misery purposely inflicted on other human beings is just wrong"
👏🏻

angsty · 24/11/2023 08:25

Your nationality at birth can't change obviously but your current nationality can, including by naturalisation. My DH changed nationality by naturalisation, and renounced his earlier nationality so he doesn't have it any more.

Shakennotstirred1 · 24/11/2023 08:29

@angsty I understand that but at the end of the day people can't try & claim the attacker was Irish when in fact he's Algerian with Irish documentation.

AInightingale · 24/11/2023 08:32

'Perhaps people asking those questions and are church goers could ask the Priest that on Sunday. Considering the Priests and Church were one of the most prolific abusers of women and children in this Country.'

They certainly were, but how does importing hundreds of thousands of men schooled in the world's most misogynistic faith help transform a former theocracy into an island of equals?

Shakennotstirred1 · 24/11/2023 08:18

@Theblacksheepandme I am not entering into this discussion with you out of respect for the five innocent people butchered yesterday on our streets at the hands of that Algerian man.
Have some morals.

My morals are not to make this about nationality like you just have. This was a bad mad that did a horrific thing. Bad men do horrific things everyday, their race, religion and ethnicity should not come into this, otherwise it's called racism.

Are you asking about Muslims as you didn't specify which religion you want to question coming into Ireland. Is it Islam?

HereIgoagain112 · 24/11/2023 08:49

Well this thread turned into a total whataboutery. 3 children and a woman was stabbed but I fear this has been lost in the discussion here. Thugs wrecked their own streets, shops and services last night, and many travelled to join them, because of their actions what should have been the main story has become diminished. 3 little children were stabbed in broad daylight, and a woman was stabbed in broad daylight. What happened was horrific enough, without riots. Gardai had to fight to protect the crime scene from contamination, those who came up to 'protest' last night didn't really care for those who were attacked, it was an excuse to riot, rob and burn the place down.

AInightingale · 24/11/2023 08:52

Yes, it's Islam.

@Theblacksheepandme the facts are there in black & white regarding this man's nationality. Your morals won't change the fact that he is Algerian! Look at all the links in this post about all other brutal attacks in our tiny country over the past few MONTHS & there is one common denominator.

ChimneyPot · 24/11/2023 09:03

Shakennotstirred1 · 24/11/2023 08:13

@DisquietintheRanks if they are born in Ireland they are obviously Irish by birth! That's pretty self explanatory

Not everyone born in Ireland is Irish. I don’t agree with this but it is the law.
The same is true in many countries, place of birth doesn’t determine your nationality.
Nationality can be acquired in different ways depending on the laws of the country.

You seem to be talking about ethnicity and race.

Racism you were very quick to try & bring the clergy & religion into this which has nothing to do with the poor innocent victims butchered at the hands of that Algerian attacker.

But because @Theblacksheepandme you were called out & got your arse handed to you on a plate you care now pulling out the racist card!
When you in fact were the one to bring religion in to the discussion in the first place 😅 Jog on. You're embarrassing yourself.

What about the high percentage of attacks in our little country on foreign nationals, 1 in 5?

I don't 'want' to do anything. The Irish authorities have been engaging in social engineering. Fine Gael want to double the population by 2040 ,that is their stated aim, it was in their last manifesto. They will only achieve this by inviting large numbers of people into the country from Central Asia, Africa and the Middle East. It's a demented policy. Has it worked in France, Sweden, Germany?

Awful also. Two wrongs don't make a right.
But don't you dare try to deflect from the poor children & their carer.
There is no defending or deflecting from the atrocities that Algerian man committed in our capital city yesterday.
Have some compassion.

You are so delusional that you don't even realise that you are deflecting by saying "that Algerian man". Who handed my are on a plate, you?😂

Shakennotstirred1 · 24/11/2023 09:15

@AInightingale absolutely. We are living in a massive social experiment. I'm following The Netherlands with interest. This is what happens when you swing too far to the left, the people will push the pendulum as far as they can & what is happening in Holland is the result.

Uncertainty remains about whether Geert Wilders will be able to form a coalition with parties that previously vowed not to work with him.

@Shakennotstirred1

Why are you so fixated on crimes committed by non-nationals and yet seemingly don’t care that the vast majority of crimes - including murder- which are committed by Irish citizens? There are on average more than 50-100 murders a year in Ireland, but thankfully the number seems to be dropping decade on decade.

If you have a shred of evidence that PROPORTIONALLY more non-nationals are involved in these crimes than Irish born citizens perhaps you should present it. All the stats I’ve seen clearly state the opposite.

Shakennotstirred1 · 24/11/2023 09:24

@anotherside because this thread is about the awful attacks committed against children leaving school yesterday.
I refuse to let it be deflected from the facts especially so soon after Ashling Murphy's trial.
The facts are the facts no matter how many try to deflect or defend.

anotherside · 24/11/2023 09:30

@Shakennotstirred1

You're just another reactionary right winger taking a tragic event to spout hate online against immigrants. People with your ideology have been at it for centuries, but you never have any positive effect on society. Rather it’s just an outlet for power seekers to channel the aimless rage of a section of society who, having not made the best of the opportunities presented to them being born in a wealthy and safe European country, are therefore filled with resentment and directionless anger. So they take the opportunity to throw the blame elsewhere - immigration, corrupt politicians, the left or whatever. Wherever the professional opportunists like that politician in the Netherlands tell them to. Much easier to find the scapegoats external than to admit that ones failures are due to one’s own defects.
