I’m watching RTE news. They mentioned the Garda representatives organisation are concerned about Gender Identity in the workplace. It’s been brought in without consultation & without training.

the Garda Commissioner has said that Garda may be disciplined for misgendering.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

We need a JKRowling figurehead to challenge the Gov on the Hate Speech Bill (or whatever they call it officially). And to ensure we don't emulate Scotland either.

Why the gender self ID legislation (that was sneaked in really) uses the term "gender" instead of sex is beyond me.

At least if it were sex based, then the "feels" of those morphing gender left right and centre would be superseded by biological fact.

This is brilliant. The Independents & Aontú will be getting my vote in June.

VaddaABeetch · 04/04/2024 20:10

Me too @VoteNONO

I bumped into Paddy O'Gorman today. He's going to be in Limerick next week for Barbie K's next court appearance. He will also be speaking at the Countess event and while his topic is prisons he is also hoping to address shelters. He's a lovely man.

VaddaABeetch · 04/04/2024 22:02

Another woman I know is standing for Aontu. I’ll put details down when I have more info.

That would be great @VaddaABeetch Aontú are definitely rallying the troops, hopefully they'll have plenty of candidates nationwide come June.

StephanieSuperpowers · 05/04/2024 06:46

Seems like some should be gearing up fir another unforeseeable voting result.

DublinFemale · 05/04/2024 08:18

I would be interested in gender critical candidates.

Unfortunately unless some independents or aontu come out soon the sitting councillors are all wrapped warm and cosy with TENI and Co.

I currently have no one to vote for.

VoteNONO · 05/04/2024 09:22

@DublinFemale to be honest I don't think that will happen🤞Aontú & the majority Independents have held onto their beliefs very solidly so far especially during the referendum where it appeared on the surface they were going against the grain. Personally I think they'll buckle down harder

PuneorPlayonWords · 05/04/2024 09:47

I couldn't bring myself to vote for Aontu with their stance on abortion. I want to vote for the Soc Dems buy can't because of they won't protect the most vulnerable women. I don't know where my vote will be going.

I'm in exactly the same boat.

StephanieSuperpowers · 05/04/2024 09:56

The thing about abortion is, the referendum passed and the only way to reverse it is another referendum, which I can't see them having the power to get and I can't see it passing. They could make access more restricted in some ways, I suppose but they would have to be pretty laser focused to achieve very much.

VoteNONO · 05/04/2024 11:14

It's like any political party or candidate though isn't it.. You won't agree with every single one of their policies or commitments but you just weigh up which are most important & decide via a process of elimination who will deliver or promise to deliver policies that align with your values... For me this is Aontú & the independents..
As @StephanieSuperpowers the abortion referendum has passed & it won't be reversed so we need to look towards the future & see how Aontú etc can work for us.. It would take another referendum at huge expense to attempt to reverse the abortion legislation & at that it would still more than likely remain so I can't see them trying to tackle it further.

On that note Fianna Fáil, Fianna Gael, Sinn Féin, the Greens, Labour & Progressive Democrats align with not even one of my values so that leaves me with Aontú & the Independents by a very easy process of elimination!

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 05/04/2024 12:57

I don't like Aontu's stance on abortion, but am beginning to feel there's limited choice - and them getting a few extra seats will send a loud clear signal to the old guard. I had been thinking I'd be voting for Sinn Fein, which a decade ago I couldn't have imagined, but they seem to be TWAW so they can f off.

I just hope Aontu don't get carried away and demand a referendum on 'assisted dying' aka killing people, because although I am opposed to legislating to allow it, putting a ban on it into the constitution would have potentially horrible unintended consequences for palliative care. Just like the situation with abortion post 1983.

The 2 women Aontu candidates are GC. Aisling & Helen.

@DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry Sinn Féin have been well & truely captured... They said they didn't agree with the referendum on IWD wordings on both acts yet still lobbied for a yes/yes...
Surely as the main opposition if they didn't agree with the wording it's an easy No/No & would have been a very easy victory yet they failed to read to mood of the nation.
Mary Lou has a trans brother so SF will never be GC, they have been truely captured.

PuneorPlayonWords · 05/04/2024 17:06

I know that I'll have to hold my nose to vote for any party, and that there's no realistic way they will be able to change the law on abortion, but given the prolife stance is such a fundamental part of their identity, I just can't do it for Aontu.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 05/04/2024 17:12

They're unlikely to stand candidates for the local elections in my area, but we should have a good range of (not all nutty) independents to choose from. The main vote-buying issue will be the HSE mismanagement of UCL, and the disgraceful knock-on effects locally.

For a general election, the independents will probably be - interesting.

StephanieSuperpowers · 05/04/2024 19:36

I'm looking for Paddy Power to give me odds on the forthcoming presidential election being wild.

I want him to run after his brilliant performance leading up to the referendums! It'd be nice to have someone I want to vote for....

Very possibly, but it's going to be a bloodbath in the run up.

VoteNONO · 05/04/2024 20:32

Would love Michael McDowell to run. He was so solid during the referendum. Also hoping Maria Steen goes into politics. The way she put manners on Michael Martin in the Primetime referendum was epic!
