Gender Critical in Ireland Part 3

VaddaABeetch · 03/04/2023 13:07

I’m watching RTE news. They mentioned the Garda representatives organisation are concerned about Gender Identity in the workplace. It’s been brought in without consultation & without training.

the Garda Commissioner has said that Garda may be disciplined for misgendering.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Well done brave strong Irish women.

Though , according to Panti Bliss , they are just parroting ideas put into their fluffy little heads by British Imperialists. Irish people are too thick to work out that lesbians dont like dick and men don't give birth.

honeyrider · 16/09/2023 16:42

The gardai did a great job keeping the women haters away from the women at let women speak event. Great to see they didn't drown out the women.

3timeslucky · 16/09/2023 17:44

It was really well policed and it was great to gather with so many other wonderful women. And pints to top it all off :-)

Abhannmor · 16/09/2023 18:00

An attack of reflux last night stopped me making the early Cork - Dublin train.

Really sorry to miss it - especially the pints. A relief that there wasn't any trouble to be honest. Fair play to the stewards and Gardai.

buckeejit · 16/09/2023 21:08

Brilliant speakers today & fab crowd. Wish I could have gone to the RDS after but I was fairly good & got the earlier train home-just home & the fire is on. Glad I managed to get & meet lots of other GC women.

Great altogether. Especially the pints! 😁

elgreco · 16/09/2023 21:10

It was well policed. I enjoyed it.

Where were the pints?! I heard a few people asking as I was leaving, but I had to head home anyway!

It was a fabulous day. Turn out was huge. Spoke to so many great women & men.

A lot of folk went to Searsons after, the bar staff were a bit shocked & asked if we were a walking group Grin. It was good.

I met a lovely French lady who worked for TikTok & had a lot of colleagues on the other side. She was hoping to see some surprise faces on the Posie side. Really hoping she found some.

ohnoitsagruffalo · 17/09/2023 12:23

I couldn't be there yesterday but I watched the whole thing yest evening. Some great speakers! It looked and sounded like there was a huge trans activists crowd 😪 but you could hear the speakers perfectly on the video. That young girl was amazing 👏

Abhannmor · 18/09/2023 11:27

Looking at videos I was surprised the turnout was so good tbh.

After all the previous one was cancelled because the Garda said they couldn't guarantee safety afaik. Back in May? Things are changing.

3timeslucky · 18/09/2023 14:36

The May event was cancelled because Biden decided to drop-in and absorb a load of Gardai resources so they said they couldn't manage both events.

The turnout was really good and despite the nonsense the TRAs are spouting the sides were very even in numbers. That's very telling given the numbers of women who didn't go out of fear either of their safety or of their career prospects.

Many who went feeling very nervous now feel much more confident about attending future events.

Times are definitely changing.

3timeslucky · 18/09/2023 14:36

fear for not fear of!

Fubbs · 19/09/2023 12:36

No one left to vote for, I used vote Green every time. I might just have to spoil my ballot, sigh....

Farmageddon · 19/09/2023 15:14

I know, it's depressing that the two major parties (and SF I believe) are heavily embedded in this. It means we have basically no options at the ballot box. Maybe some independents...

Farmageddon · 19/09/2023 15:17

Just as an aside - where are they getting this crap from anyway? Do they really think in the space of a few years, the Irish public went from voting in gay marriage (overwhelmingly) to 'a pushback against LGBTI'. That doesn't make sense.
What the hell does the 'I' even stand for?? What rights do 'I' people want/ need that they don't have currently? It's bizarre.

The whole thing is such a lazy assumption, and probably a deliberate tactic to ignore and dismiss women's genuine concerns - dress any criticism up as bigoted and then you don't have to address any actual issues.

The "I" stand for intersex, which from what I've read is an outdated term anyway, the preference now being DSD or VSD (difference or variance of sexual development)
Ireland seems to an outlier in using LGBTI, elsewhere use LGBTQ.
I truly despair of this country there is no one to vote for.
FG/FF have destroyed the country in so many ways since the crash, never mind bringing in the abomination of the which is the Gender Recognition Act.
SF - even if I could hold my nose and vote for them (which I just can't due to legacy issues) are supporters of GI madness.
All left leaning parties have drank the KoolAid.
There is no one.

WaveyGodshawk · 19/09/2023 19:04

Sorry I went off on a tangent there!

I completely agree with you on the last point there @Farmageddon
If they address our concerns, concede that there is a clash of rights - well then they'd have to concede that they got the 2015 legislation spectacularly wrong. And they're not going to do that are they

Villagetoraiseachild · 05/10/2023 09:12

Thanks for that@Cyanchicken . She makes some good points.
For the first time I used the trick mentioned on MN....if an article is behind a paywall, click on it, then click onto Airplane Mode...It works (am sure everyone one here wise to the fact a decade ago....)

Unfortunately, it's not just the GRA legislation - I found out a while ago that 'gender identity' is a protected characteristic in our Equality legislation (I also notice that 'sex' is very much NOT a protected characteristic).

How the fuck did that get put in there without anyone noticing, or have I been asleep at the wheel? This makes it much harder to push back against this shite. I despair!

It's so obvious that our government have nothing but contempt for women in this country - sex is not a protected characteristic, any man who chooses can be legally female, male rapists in women's prisons, misgendering may end up becoming a hate crime - where the fuck will it end?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 05/10/2023 09:33

Yep, there's a lot to unravel unfortunately @Farmageddon Our EA was amended in 2020. So few people are aware of this or indeed that self ID is law here, and what that actually means. It's not a good time to be a female living in Ireland.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 05/10/2023 09:37

And the referendum that might have given space for public debate around the issues isn't going to happen this year, and I suspect may not happen ever.

But bravo for Colette Colfer.
