I was reading about the trial earlier and they're pushing for a plea bargain and may walk free for time already served.

I saw that @honeyrider

What a heart breaking case.

eggandonion · 31/10/2023 17:02

The element of doubt abou the death of the first wife is an interesting concept.
I am so fed up with rain. And it's so dark.

On the way to Dublin airport to drop off DS2, he's emigrating to Australia but will stop off in Dubai for 4 days.

The best of luck to him @honeyrider

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 01/11/2023 18:21

Yes honeyrider, also wishing your son well in this exciting chapter of his life 🍀

LadyEloise1 · 01/11/2023 23:55

Ah @honeyrider You'll miss him. Hope he has a great time in Australia.

Wendysfriend · 03/11/2023 10:41

Ooh @honeyrider you must be so proud and sad at the same time.

Went to a store yesterday as they were advertising half price Christmas stock, now I'm not one for buying this early but dd loves the window stickers and we can never get much as we always leave it too late due to all the hospital appointments we do with her before Christmas. So thought I'd be organised this year, seen other stuff reduced and decided to pick a few more things up, was overcharged by 26 euro, went back in only too be told that they are only packing out the Christmas stuff and it hasn't gone on the system yet and it's only the start of November 😳, when I pointed out the prices were on the shelves marked at the reduced price and the stock actually on the shelves it would be assumed it's there for the buying. You'd swear I took it from their stock room. Well I wasn't getting it at the reduced price, manager came out and repeated about it been the 1st day of the sale and to give them a chance to pack it out😲 really !! Big advertising for this sale and I had to wait until they decided when to sell it . Gone are the days when I worked in retail and you stayed back the night before getting the store ready for sales, I worked for many companies and you'd never say this to a customer, you'd refund them and ensure the system was up to date with current sales prices.

honeyrider · 03/11/2023 11:38

I'm fine now but bawled when I gave him his last hug, I think hearing his heartbeat set me off as it reminded me of when he was small and I'd listen to his heartbeat. He was so excited going and meeting his friends who had him out camel riding, out in the desert and quad biking within 4 hours of landing. He must be shattered.

JaneJeffer · 03/11/2023 11:55

Name and shame @Wendysfriend

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 03/11/2023 15:20

My heart would be sore too @honeyrider but we have to let them spread their wings. I hope he has a ball - and that you can get used to him being abroad. Thankfully with WhatsApp and FaceTime its so much easier than it was in our day. One of my siblings is in Australia and I'm so grateful to be able to send & receive photos and videos and have FaceTime calls 🙂

@Wendysfriend that's awful, surely they have to honour the price that's on display? I'd name & shame them on social media, that's not on.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend and we don't get washed away again!

LadyEloise1 · 03/11/2023 15:55

@Wendysfriend
You should definitely name and shame even on here.

Lovely day here in Dublin.

LadyEloise1 · 03/11/2023 16:17

Just wondering did Jozef Puska on trial for the murder of Ashling Murphy have to take an oath on the Bible agreeing to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth ?

DeanElderberry · 03/11/2023 16:34

Maybe he is telling the truth. I'm still chilled that another woman was killed with extreme violence just a few miles down the canal towpath from the place where Aisling was attacked, while he was locked up.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 03/11/2023 16:49

But why did he admit to it when first arrested?

eggandonion · 03/11/2023 17:12

Why would he not have sworn an oath on a holy book?
I would be useless on a journey. Barristers are good at asking questions to bring in reasonable doubt. The language barrier too.
Her poor family...all families who need to find the truth.

LadyEloise1 · 03/11/2023 17:55

@DeanElderberry re the other woman violently killed - do you have a link please ?

DeanElderberry · 03/11/2023 18:15

I know my doubts are probably unjustified, but there were all those cases where Irish people in the UK got convicted of things they didn't do, and it's easy to see why a foreigner without local support might panic. The DNA identification also doesn't seem totally clear - figures like one in a thousand quoted - leaves a possibility of error.

I do not envy the jury members.

Ywlala92 · 03/11/2023 19:05

@DeanElderberry that second case was a completely different situation... A stepson and stepmother! Very very very different to ashling out for a walk and being murdered by a complete stranger. Neither woman deserved to die though. So many horrific tragedies happening in Ireland the last few years. It's very sad.

DeanElderberry · 03/11/2023 19:33

There was nothing in the news about a relationship between the people in the Rahan case (sub judice, under age accused). Just another very violent male attacking a woman, very close to the site of the first attack. If they are only linked by location, the next question is, what has gone wrong in Tullamore?

Ywlala92 · 03/11/2023 19:59

@DeanElderberry I have connections to the area and know the relationship! Two completely separate different incidents, involving completely different people and different scenarios. Two tragedies to happen within 10 - 15km of each other. I'm not sure why you are trying to create a link between them tbh.

DeanElderberry · 03/11/2023 20:08

Because they happened close together and involved unusually savage attacks on women. Thank God, that kind of violence is rare. Without local knowledge no-one could know any of the details of the recent one - just that it is geographically close. It is always striking when odd things happen near each other - like the catastrophic car crashes in Tipperary this summer. No obvious connection, but hard not to wonder was there some linking factor.

Dishwasherdisaster · 04/11/2023 12:36

@Wendysfriend that's awful, surely they have to honour the price that's on display? I'd name & shame them on social media, that's not on.

Legally they* *don't have to if it's just an error. So if a shop mistakenly puts a pricetag of €30 on a €300 coat, for example, they don't have to give you the coat for €30. I'm not a lawyer but I think the contract is at the point of sale or something like that.
However, in the circumstances described I do think they should have sold @Wendysfriend's items at the reduced price, but maybe it was difficult practically speaking? I dont know how the systems work. Surely they should have labelled the shelves last, but maybe they could argue that this was a mistake rather than deliberate false advertising.
Really very annoying though.

honeyrider · 04/11/2023 15:16

Price tags and price displayed on shelves are an invitation to treat but a business must tell you if the price is higher before you pay.
