Noah needs to come back with the Ark, torrential rain in Waterford.

LadyEloise1 · 18/10/2023 17:59

eggandonion · 18/10/2023 12:48

Daughter in Dublin says its very grey there but not raining. Is this true?
Pascal sheehy will be very busy today.

It's lashing here now.

Where is @Iblinkedandiamold ?
I hope she's ok.
She was a stalwart on these threads during Covid lockdowns and on fromthem.

JaneJeffer · 18/10/2023 18:07

Haven't seen her around for a long time @LadyEloise1

eggandonion · 18/10/2023 18:13

Well at least east coast people had our warnings and rushed to Centra for water and bread.
I hope blinked is doing ok.

Taytocrisps · 19/10/2023 09:14

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 18/10/2023 14:24

Absolutely! Yellow warning = one Brennan. Orange warning = two Brennan's
Red warning = three Brennan's. Plus graphics of Brennan's on the map for clarity.

Our local Centra had to ration the bread during one of the big snows (2010? The Breast from the East? - it's all a bit hazy now). I was sure there'd be a run on bread when Covid hit. I never anticipated loo rolls.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 19/10/2023 09:19

Probably the beast from.the east @Taytocrisps it was mad times then.
The main road out of our town towards Cork city is a hill and deliveries couldn't get through. Shelves were pretty bare in the shops!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 19/10/2023 09:43

My heart goes out to anyone who's home or business has been flooded in Cork. What a nightmare. We've had a lot of flooding around overnight but nothing on that scale thank God.

Yes, I have often wondered where Iblinked went, maybe she's still here but name-changed and doesn't want to say (which is fine) hopefully all ok with her (or him of course, I just assume!!)

I wonder will we get a harsh winter. I honestly prefer very cold and dry to torrential rain, I find the dark wet days so depressing and I absolutely hate driving in it. Dreading the drives home from work, ugh.

Taytocrisps · 20/10/2023 15:21

I have that Sawdoctors song running through my head - 'Will it ever stop raining?'

Wendysfriend · 20/10/2023 18:30

This rain is awful. Will it ever stop. I'll soon have a swimming pool. My Tesco shop came earlier, I thought it had been washed under a tap. Why does Cork always flood badly ?

The trial of poor Ashling , I know it's ongoing so can't say too much but God, how on earth was the way she was murdered so falsely reported, awful way to die, she must have suffered so much, poor woman. Too much covering up in this Country, protecting and looking after the wrong people.

JaneJeffer · 20/10/2023 18:36

Her poor family having to go through the trial Sad

Wendysfriend · 20/10/2023 18:50

Absolutely, I'm thinking they knew the cause of death so wouldn't be as shocked as the public hearing it for the 1st time this week. I don't know how they are getting through this . I see he got himself a very good Solicitor/Barrister, I doubt he's paying for that, not on benefits.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 20/10/2023 18:51

Cork gets its name from the Irish for 'marsh', Corcaigh. The city is also fondly known as 'Little Venice'. It's watery and boggy down here.

I find the reporting on that trial very difficult to listen to as well. Poor Ashling. Her poor family. I feel so sorry for them.

DeanElderberry · 20/10/2023 18:51

I'm also shuddering at the fact that a second woman has died by violence about 6 miles further along the canal towpath less than two years later. One small town. It's not how we like to imagine rural and small town Ireland.

JaneJeffer · 20/10/2023 19:34

TG4 have a programme about Peig at 8 if anyone is interested!

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 20/10/2023 19:47

We have lost our TV signal. I'm not joking!
When it gets wet, it goes sometimes. It's raining again tonight.

I'd say there was a rush to watch it 😂

That poor much maligned woman.

To be fair, when Peig did that interview (or possibly a series of interviews?) she had no idea that her story would be inflicted on a generation of Irish teenagers. But the person who thought it would be a suitable text for the Leaving Cert. should be hung, drawn and quartered. I'm still bitter that my younger brother never had to do it.

3luckystars · 22/10/2023 21:58

My mother met Peig.

My mother met Peig.

You can't just put that there and not elaborate 😮

Carriemac · 23/10/2023 11:31

Yes tell us more !

Story?

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 24/10/2023 14:57

3luckystars imithe. Ní feicimíd a leithéidí arís ar Craicnet. Only joking, 3. I'm pulling your leg. That's what they said about the islanders on the Great Blasket, that we will never see their likes again.

My mother would have been thrilled to meet Peig. She became a Gaeilgeoir as a very mature student.

LadyEloise1 · 30/10/2023 09:33

Thinking of Jack and Sarah Corbett, their aunt Tracey Corbett Lynch and the wider Corbett family and friends as Molly Martens and her father are back in court today at a pre trial hearing been charged with the second degree murder of Jason Corbett.
