😱

halfpasteleven · 16/07/2023 22:28

Nothing great weather wise for the week.. or next weekend... with Tuesday meant to be particularly wet...

I actually feel so down after typing that...

JaneJeffer · 16/07/2023 22:48

It was a fairly nice day here today but I spent it indoors watching tennis!

halfpasteleven · 17/07/2023 04:13

I watched the men's final as well after the Kerry vs Derry game. Both cracking games.

I wish the GAA season didn't end so early- was much better when it lasted all summer and into September.

JaneJeffer · 17/07/2023 19:14

I agree @halfpasteleven it's not right!

Very sad about Ronan Keating's brother. I was surprised nobody offered their condolences on The One Show.

Wendysfriend · 18/07/2023 11:27

This weather is pants, all I'm seeing is pictures of heat waves on TV and online. While I wouldn't want the misery some Countries are experiencing a little warmer would be nice.

I walked to the GP this morning and even with an umbrella I was soaked, everywhere has big mats down because everyone is soaked. It's so feckin cold too and I can't afford oil, of course all the companies put up their prices because the weather is shite. I actually wore my winter boots and coat😭😭 it's July!!!!

Poor Ronan's brother, so very sad, so young too.

JaneJeffer · 18/07/2023 19:01

You need to go west @Wendysfriend Grin

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 18/07/2023 19:13

It was lovely Down South today. Really warm in the sun with only a light shower.

LadyEloise1 · 21/07/2023 19:25

Appalling attack on a US tourist off Talbot Street. I'm so sorry and ashamed that it happened in Dublin. I hope he makes a great recovery as his injuries have been reported as life changing. 😢

Our Justice Minister says she has no problem walking around the north inner city day and night.
Yeah right ! With Garda minders no doubt.
She and the Taoiseach should haul senior Gardai in to ask why Gardaí are not visible on the streets. Deploy them now.
Yesterday there were 2 Gardai on speed control duties on the N11 at 5.10 pm.
Totally unnecessary.
Put them on patrol around the O' Connell street area at any time of the day or night - it would be far more useful.
And the shutting of local garda stations - whose brilliant idea was that 🙄🙄
I'm no fan of Willie O Dea but he's right - stop pandering to the woke gallery and focus on tackling crime as there is a growing problem of anti social behaviour and street crime.
Tougher sanctions too are needed.
My heart sinks a bit when I read posters on Mumsnet saying they are going to visit Dublin as I know they'll be unpleasantly surprised.
Or when posters say they have visited Dublin and they were surprised at the anti social behaviour they witnessed.

honeyrider · 21/07/2023 20:08

Helen McEntee's for the birds and Willie O'Dea hit the nail on the head about her playing to the woke gallery.

The gardai's focus is on collecting revenue.

Wendysfriend · 21/07/2023 20:51

Absolutely shocking the attack. Tbh The top of Talbot Street was always a bit shady, I remember I had to work there for a year and I fuckin shit myself especially when I had to lock up the shop, that's a good few years ago. I use to have a sigh of relief when I'd hit O'Connell street, even though that's not much better, but there was more people about and a definite Gardai presence, not that the scum bags are afraid of the Guards. I try not going down there if I can help it, sometimes I have to to cut through to the stations or if I need to get a bus northside, I do be nearly running through it or it means taking the long way round by the quays.

Abbey Street is a disaster too. I don't get the luas there anymore, so many drunk, druggies looking for money, they hound you like nobody's business, even though I'm from Dublin and have a strong accent I always make sure to emphasise it, these arseholes are so racist that when they hear your accent they start fawning all over you, telling you they love Dublin people.

Our minister's have no clue about the City Centre, for donkey's years there's always been this behaviour, the drugs are rife, the attacts are common and there's so many muggings that no one hears of. They sit in their fancy cars, they're not standing queueing for public transport or going into a shop and getting harassed by the scum. You can't take out a smoke cos they're like flies around shite looking for one, you don't dare take out your phone, you wrap your bag around you a million times. There's no guards on the streets anymore. All we hear is recruitment and money being invested but they're saying that a long time.

3luckystars · 21/07/2023 22:12

I used to work in Dublin all the time over the last 20 years so would be well used to it, but then I went there overnight about 5 years ago and never again will I stay there. Mean streets. It was extremely dangerous and I felt very unsafe.

There were a lot of people on the very edge and capable of doing anything. That poor tourist.

halfpasteleven · 21/07/2023 23:13

So sad reading these posts about Dublin. I lived there some years ago and loved it.
It has so much to offer- if only it had a stronger sense of safety about it.

So angry that that poor tourist was attacked so viciously.

I really hope they catch the scum that did this.

And that the punishment reflects the crime.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 21/07/2023 23:44

It's despicable. I'm so upset about it. And I'm raging as well. Scumbag of an excuse of a human that did it.

halfpasteleven · 22/07/2023 05:05

It makes for grim reading. That poor man.

I think this was about right. Scarily accurate, in fact. It looks like we've got about 3 weeks or so left of it, according to the forecasts I've seen.

LadyEloise1 · 22/07/2023 15:32

Has anyone fact checked the St. Swithin's prediction over the last 20 years to see how accurate it really is.
It would be an interesting read.

I'd be scared to at this stage!

Taytocrisps · 29/07/2023 15:41

I was passing by Dunnes earlier and they had Hallowe'en stuff on the shelves. I stopped in my tracks. It is only July, isn't it?

JaneJeffer · 29/07/2023 15:45

Oh my God @Taytocrisps. It's bad enough having cosy autumn threads on here. Autumn round these parts consists of battling through rain and wind sludgy leaves.

Taytocrisps · 29/07/2023 17:24

Actually, I love Autumn but Hallowe'en stuff has no place in the shops until at least the 1st October.
