I'm confused 🙈 what has actually happened? Was Ryan over paid and he didn't tell anyone? Or was he paid more in secret?

Assuming he was paid more, Why are the staff and public so angry that he got more money? Aren't staff paid different amounts anyway?

I was trying to watch the 6 news with the interview with the director guy in rte, but he kept swinging on his chair and making me feel nauseous.

Interesting to hear Clare Byrne's intro to her show this morning. Worth a listen.
She has the same agent as Ryan.

Yes I read about that @LadyEloise1 I had wondered (like many I'm sure) if we were going to find out that she was in the same boat so I think she was right to set her stall now and prevent any further speculation. I wonder if the other big names will follow suit. I'd be surprised if it's just RT who was getting additional payments but hopefully we'll find out soon enough.

@Wendysfriend yes he was paid more than what was disclosed. Because RTE is funded by the taxpayer/licence fees there should be transparency around the costs involved in running it, including the salaries paid to staff. Not only has he been paid more than what we were told, but it was over a time when the boss was asking for the licence fee to be increased, saying there wasn't enough money to cover costs and grow the business etc! The question now is whether it was just Ryan getting a lot more money or were other presenters/staff also being paid more than had been disclosed.

My daughter got paid double in a new job...she paid an awful lot of tax on the extra bit...due to a payroll mix up. She did realise that the figures weren't what she was expecting and hr people had to sort it out.
Imagine not really knowing that the figures were wrong. Or pretending the figures were right. Silly Ryan.

Thinking today of the families and friends of the two young lads on the Leaving Certificate holiday in Ios who have died.
Many of us on here have seen our teenagers go off so excitedly on their adventures - post Leaving holiday, J1, Interailing etc, leaving behind us parents worrying about their safety and hoping all will be well.
Heartbreaking.
May they rest in peace.

It is terribly sad for the families concerned. And for all families of young people who have died recently...there have been a few accidents since early summer.
I still worry about my kids going away and they are much older.
Awful news for a family to get.

I have kids of this age, one having just done the LC. It's absolutely awful. My thoughts are with their families and friends.

I was so upset when I saw this last night. Same age as DS2. Their poor families. A 22 year old died in Greece last week as well. It doesn't bear thinking about.

A couple of traffic accidents too. And the lad on the jet ski. Drowning accidents earlier in the year. I dread the news in summer ...there but for the grace of God go any family.😒

Absolutely dreadful news My teen DS can be a bit of an eejit, loves the craic, you know the type. No amount of warning him or telling him horror stories could put him off, I know that in the moment he could easily just get carried away. Such a worry. My heart breaks for the boys' families, may they rest in peace.

My daughter who lives in South Dublin says Ios is the current place for local kids to go for leaving cert trips...her friend teaches in a school in the area.
It's so far away. Poor kids. Mine were eejits too at times.

Just devastating for all of their families and friends. Young people think they're invincible at that age and they dismiss warnings as fussing. Imagine getting that phone call - it really doesn't bear thinking about.

It's absolutely pissing down and the forecast looks bad for the next week

Ugh I think the whole country is under water at this stage. So depressing, especially since the forecast is so bad. Feel sorry for the kids off school, it's so much easier for everyone when the weather is good. And such a contrast to the rest of Europe who are suffering in the heatwave!!

Lashing here too, grey and cold. It will get better though. The tide can only go out so far before it comes back in again.

Came back from France last night.
Nearly melted yesterday. It got up to 34 degrees in Bordeaux. There was a breeze most days. It rained once, so it was mixed. Yesterday though, was hard going. Very intense. Couldn't imagine any hotter.
