I have had either two or three people working from home since this began, and it's pretty restricting! Ddog likes a good bark at the postman and any delivery person he sees, always at a bad time.
Id hate teachers talking in my house, although all my home workers did various courses they weren't with teachers!

eggandonion · 13/01/2022 10:39

Awful news from Tullamore.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 13/01/2022 11:11

Absolutely awful.

sillysmiles · 13/01/2022 11:37

That poor woman. I wonder if he had been stalking her.

Is it bad that I'm sorry its a non national that has been caught for it - because now it will be "dismissed" as a problem with immigrants rather than a problem with male violence against women?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 13/01/2022 11:46

It's truly shocking, what a beautiful young girl and a waste of a life. But I don't know what could have been done to prevent it to be honest. She was in a well known area, at 4pm. It sounds to me like it was a freak incident. Not an accident of course and I'm in no way minimising it but this isn't a regular occurence like it would be in parts of US etc. Horrific but unusual. God rest her soul and my thoughts are with her family and friends, it's devastating.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 13/01/2022 12:08

I don't know any of the details, but this has shaken me to my core.

eggandonion · 13/01/2022 12:40

I was out for a walk in a popular place about five yesterday, it was still light, plenty of people about. There was a part i detoured to avoid a shifty looking man.
Even at that, i felt safe enough. Its hard to accept that this could happen in broad daylight.
What a tragic loss to her community.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 13/01/2022 13:26

Yes and how awful for anyone who witnessed it, I believe people tried to help. You'd be so wary (as a woman) of getting involved in case you end up dead yourself. Such a tragic story.

3luckystars · 13/01/2022 14:39

I think the whole country is devastated. What an awful thing to happen to her. Something big needs to happen to change the culture. Every woman I know has felt the fear while out alone at some stage. It’s shouldn’t be like this for us. We are at a complete disadvantage and awful crimes like this just make it worse.
God rest her soul, that poor girl.

honeyrider · 13/01/2022 18:08

The thug arrested for her murder was well known to the Gardai for a number of violent crimes. The judiciary should have the spotlight shone on them.

Iblinkedandiamold · 13/01/2022 19:34

It's so shocking. At 4pm in the afternoon. I know it would be terrible anytime but you would assume you'd be somewhat safe at 4pm. I didn't know it was a non national, I was thinking they'd pass it off as someone with mental health problems, bad upbringing etc.
I am so saddened for the senseless loss of a young woman woth her whole life ahead of her. Probably had plans for the weekend.

honeyrider · 14/01/2022 01:00

Gardai released a man who they had been questioning over the death of Ashling Murphy, stating he was now no longer a suspect. The killer is still on the loose.

JaneJeffer · 14/01/2022 01:03

Rest in peace Ashling. It's so sad and at the same time I am raging that someone could do this.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 15/01/2022 23:23

He's not still on the loose it sounds like the guy in hospital is the actual murdered. Either she injured him while fighting for her life or he "attempted suicide" afterwards. I wonder did she know him at all. God help her family this is all so public and loud, it must be unbearabe for them Sad

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 15/01/2022 23:23

Apologies for typos you get the gist...

halfpasteleven · 16/01/2022 13:40

I hope justice isn't swiftly served.

They are searching houses in Dublin and Offaly.. I hope they get all the clues they need quickly.

halfpasteleven · 16/01/2022 13:41

IS swiftly served.
I don't know how that typo happened.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 16/01/2022 18:59

Yes I do too @halfpasteleven
I read that he is married with children and lives in Tullamore. Relatives living in Crumlin in Dublin and he fled to them after the attack. Sometime during the night he stabbed himself which is how he ended up in a Dublin hospital. I wonder how he got from the crime scene to Crumlin? It will all come out I'm sure. Anyway the Guards are saying they're not looking for anyone else so it must be him. God help her poor family and friends, and her boyfriend - I read they had plans to build a house. All that life and vitality snuffed out. Desperately sad.

Iblinkedandiamold · 16/01/2022 19:18

Hope they got the right guy this time. I know the innocent man is having a hard time and he wants to clear his name but I don't like that he is everywhere now selling his story. In my mind this should be just about Ashling and bringing her killer to justice.
I hadn't seen a picture of this man before didn't know his name. I found out the other information on here.

eggandonion · 16/01/2022 19:25

He was lucky he went to a shop and used a credit card, the whole episode is like a thriller where the wrong person is caught up in investigation. There is a list online of women murdered in the past 25 years, it's really sad how many are forgotten.

Iblinkedandiamold · 16/01/2022 19:42

@eggandonion he was very lucky he had an Alibi and it was able to be proven. Thank goodness for that. Two days wasted on questioning him and turning his life upside while the real killer went free.
Still think he shouldn't be given anymore time.

I'd say the list is long, it's very sad.

LadyEloise1 · 16/01/2022 20:43

I don't like all the speculation in the media at the moment.
I don't want any suspect's lawyers saying they can't get a fair trial because of pre trial speculation.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 16/01/2022 21:22

That's a very good point @LadyEloise1

Iblinkedandiamold · 18/01/2022 07:10

Ah guys I just the most maddening thing online. A group of women were holding an online vigil for Ashling. Some random man decided to zoom bomb it, exposing himself and...well you know.
Usually I am a bit "oh come on snowflakes" but this made me so so angry.
What is the world coming to.

honeyrider · 18/01/2022 16:21

The misogynistic Men's Rosary group aka the Irish Freedom Party in Limerick moved from their usual venue to stand beside where the vigil for Ashling was being held and kept chanting the rosary through amplifiers to drown out the vigil and refused to stop when asked to do so.
