I don't know about that but maybe. He is in an isolation hotel so maybe it is downmarket.

Joolsin · 06/01/2022 19:37

They're calling him Novax Djocovid, which is amusing. What a plonker - I'm glad that Oz isn't giving him special treatment, although there have been plenty of "celebs" who've managed to swan in and out of the country this whole time.

Iblinkedandiamold · 06/01/2022 19:54

Oh that's handy, I can spell that. @Joolsin It is amusing.
I don't know much about Australia, I thought they seemed to have pretty strict rules but I don't know.

Iblinkedandiamold · 08/01/2022 22:36

Do you think the government has forgotten about the extra bank hoilday they promised us. They say now that st Brigid's day is out this year but maybe in the future. So do you think they will give us the Thursday and Friday for St Patrick's day?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 09/01/2022 11:00

I hope so @Iblinkedandiamold DDs school have it on their calendar that they're closed the 2 days! Actually I'd forgotten about it until I saw that and asked a friend if there'd been a typo but she reminded me about the extra BH. I suppose if we all crack on as though it's happening, Meehole & Leo etc will have no choice Grin

I hate that all the decorations are down now, I miss the coziness. I think I'll invest in more candles for my living room. Not scented ones but ones in various sizes just to add some cheeriness to the room in the evenings.

Iblinkedandiamold · 09/01/2022 11:11

My house is such a mess but I can't find the motivation to clean it. I trying to do ten minutes of cleaning then a break. I will get there just at the moment it seems like so much.
I didn't put much decorations up this year but I know what you mean. I have little villages I love when they are all lit up. Didn't even take them down this year. Remind me never to start decorating my house so close to Christmas again. Smile

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 09/01/2022 12:11

We took our decorations down yesterday and I gave the floors a good clean. I always wonder how the artificial tree sheds so much...

So, the two days off are when Grin start of February?!

eggandonion · 09/01/2022 13:47

I need to clean before dh moves things into the space where the tree sat.

Joolsin · 09/01/2022 13:48

Oh, two days off - I'd forgotten about that. Still think they ought to be in January, such a meh month always. Have taken the decorations off the tree - I don't mind that bit, it's the wrapping them and boxing them which is a pain.

Iblinkedandiamold · 09/01/2022 14:25

The two days off are meant to be st Patrick's day and the day after. I think because it falls on a Thursday this year they thought Thursday and Friday would be nice
I am slowly making a very small dent in my clutter.

Aussies don't buy that celebrity crap. Frank Sinatra was stuck on a plane there after he insulted air hostesses - calling them 'dollar and a half whores ' iirc. The staff just walked and left him to it. G'day !
Abhannmor · 09/01/2022 16:28

Mo leithscéal. It was female Aussie journalists he insulted. Airport workers refused to refuel his private jet.

So it's not in February then? At Patrick's day feels v far away!
halfpasteleven · 09/01/2022 21:45

St not At!

eggandonion · 09/01/2022 21:59

Its ten weeks nearly.

halfpasteleven · 09/01/2022 22:17

Ten weeks sounds less than two and a half months..

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 10/01/2022 09:25

Well if Luke is right we can all go buck wild for the long weekend as we'll be out the other side of this covid stuff!! ever the optimist

eggandonion · 10/01/2022 10:51

Its ten weeks since Halloween. Its six weeks since omicron became an issue.

Halloween feels like a lifetime ago.

I hope the health system can cope with this pressure.

I cannot wait for the day I do not have to wear a mask again.

eggandonion · 10/01/2022 23:51

Im not too bad with masks but im so fed up with hand sanitizer. It really annoys me. And yes, I know money is grubby and I should wash my hands before eating etc.
When will I see my first Easter eggs in Dunnes? Super Valu had no Nutella, they had better have it for pancake day!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 11/01/2022 09:31

Halloween does indeed feel like a lifetime ago!

I remember very clearly the first time I put a mask on to go into a shop (and gloves, though they weren't a good idea were they) I felt so self-conscious, not everyone was doing it at the time and it was so alien it all felt surreal. Now its just second nature to us. I think it's a really interesting study in human behaviour! And I wonder how all of this will be reported on in years to come.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 11/01/2022 09:37

Yes, that's true, Life. Looking back on this in years to come will be interesting. It will seem surreal, no doubt I wonder when we will revert back to normal without masks and sanitiser.

It's always reassuring to listen to Luke. He always gives a positive outlook.

Thethreecs · 11/01/2022 10:31

Oh I'm sick of all this covid shit. 3 out of 5 of mine are back to online learning since yesterday and today due to big outbreaks in their schools.

Do the schools not realise that homes are not designed for this, we're not all one kid families. I've teachers moaning at my kids about background noise, they all have headphones, earbuds etc but for some reason 2 of them said they can't hear their teachers when they use them Hmm so I've teachers voices blaring all over my house. If I even sneeze I'm getting looks from my kids!!

I can't use my kitchen or sitting room as they're taking them over, both rooms are in use to 4.30pm. They also have every electronic going but for some reason 2 can only access the work on a laptop and the only laptop here is my ancient one that they're killing each other over to use! One actually has an ipad and the laptop going at the same time.

I nearly cracked last year having to sit in my bedroom with dd for the whole day every day and if this happens again I'm going to go mad. If the gov keep telling us schools are not the problem for spreading covid why are 3 of ours now closed?

Now I got an email from dds school saying 3 teachers tested positive on lfts this morning and are going for pcrs, she's a sn school, how many has this affected.

Are my kids winding me up about not been able to hear the teacher using headphones/earbuds? They are saying they need to be able to speak too, I told them to use their gaming headsets but they said they don't work, I think they're taking this opportunity of my lack of knowledge re electronics to try get out of working.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 11/01/2022 11:19

That's hard @Thethreecs I don't think I'd cope with 5 DC in any circumstances!! Hopefully this won't be for long as it's not a lockdown or anything. My DC use the iPads and earbuds but have had no issues hearing their teachers etc. Have you asked other parents if their kids are having similar problems? As for background noise or staying out of your kitchen etc, it would be a great big NO from me I'm afraid! Everyone is aware of the limiations of working from home and I'm sure the teachers understand that you need to be able to crack on in the background sometimes. Obviously keep noise to a minimum but you have to be able to use your kitchen etc! Wishing you luck and hoping you won't have to put up with this much longer.
