Happy New Year everyone, 2022! I can't wrap my head around it I need more time (up to December I reckon)

@honeyrider I'm sorry for your loss Flowers it's a horrible time of year to lose someone but throw covid into the mix and it's a nightmare. A good friend of mine lost a parent over Christmas and one of her siblings couldn't attend the funeral as she was isolating at home with her family, all awaiting PCR tests. They had to watch on the church webcam. Just awful.

So yes here we are in year 3 now... Luke O'Neill reckons we'll be over the worst of it by St. Patrick's Day so I'm going to hold him to that.

Iblinkedandiamold · 04/01/2022 17:00

It is so cold today. I am huddled under blankets here.
So glad the schools are going back. This variant doesn't seem to be bad, I mean very contagious but symptoms more like common cold or flu. Hopefully all future strains are like this and we can get back to normal now.
My worst fear was my father getting ot as he has health problems and us in his 70s. Well he got it and he is grand.
I mean I wouldn't have said no to a few more days off but I was worried that it would be like last year.

Luke has been fairly spot on in his predictions so here's hoping. Really hope the schools going back don't drive the hospital numbers too high.
LifeInAHamsterWheel · 05/01/2022 12:23

I think the isolation is what's causing all the problems in the hospitals, so many staff off either because they've tested positive or are close contacts. Hopefully things won't be anywhere near as bad as the predictions had been. They can't be surely, otherwise we'd be in lockdown?? And I see that from tomorrow a negtive PCR is no longer required to enter the country. They must really believe that we're through the worst of it now?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 05/01/2022 12:24

And yes, it's gone really cold all of a sudden! Christmas, although wet, felt quite mild. Bad enough having to get up early and go to work without the added shock of having to de-ice the car as well Shock

Iblinkedandiamold · 05/01/2022 15:45

It's 3:45pm and I am still in my pyjamas. I am enjoying my last day of being lazy. Although I have been doing a lot in the house today so not exactly lazy.

eggandonion · 05/01/2022 19:15

Im back to work tomorrow, it will be a terrible shock to the system. Its really cold here.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 05/01/2022 19:43

I don't think I'm ready for January yet!!
Good luck going back to work.

Iblinkedandiamold · 05/01/2022 20:34

I went out at around 6pm to put a frost cover on my car, my car was already frozen.

halfpasteleven · 05/01/2022 22:42

I like the cold, crisp weather.
Once the roads are dry for driving on.
Got a walk in this eve and the air was so fresh- it almost felt like it was clearing my head earlier than usual.
Best of luck to all returning to work this week.

eggandonion · 05/01/2022 23:00

It's supposed to rain overnight. I have a new thermal vest, i might start a thermal vest thread on style and beauty.

JaneJeffer · 05/01/2022 23:05

All ready for the sneachta?

@eggandonion
I like the Heatgen ones from M&S

eggandonion · 05/01/2022 23:38

My friend advised me to get one from the mens dept, as they are longer, and tuck in to ones knickers. So im trying this method, i have massive pants, to avoid a chill in my kidneys. I will probably be going out with wet hair though, so will end up with pneumonia.

All ready for the sneachta?
I love snow, bet we don't get any!
CliffsofMohair · 06/01/2022 04:48

I hate snow. I live on a shady hill. It doesn’t thaw for bloody weeks.

V v windy tonight!

Iblinkedandiamold · 06/01/2022 07:06

I like snow when I don't have to drive it in. I live in an estate with two hills. If it snows bad I can't get out. The hills are small but steep.

Carriemac · 06/01/2022 07:37

My non Irish speaking child living in Dublin asked me what the Irish for snow was - when I told her she said oh that makes sense now - Sneachta is what the Irish rappers call cocoaine

JaneJeffer · 06/01/2022 08:21

It's a pity those rappers don't do a few songs in Irish. The kids would pick it up no bother then Grin

@JaneJeffer I was educated in the North, by Presbyterian and Baptist spinster ladies. They would have given nuns a run for their money.

JaneJeffer · 06/01/2022 08:42

I can just picture them @eggandonion Grin

FinallyFluid · 06/01/2022 09:37

So now we don't need an antigen test to get into Ireland, make up your bloody minds.

It will make any mercy dashes easier.

Iblinkedandiamold · 06/01/2022 18:26

I think we need to be more like Australia. I am very impressed that they are sending the Tennis player home( no way am I going to try and spell that name.)
They have been very strict through this whole thing from what I read anyway.

eggandonion · 06/01/2022 18:47

They said on the news this morning that he is in a downmarket hotel with asylum seekers. I wonder!
