Yes, it's very miserable down south.
I'm putting on the heating for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. Have to keep a sharp eye on it. We don't have the warmest house. Looking into insulation.

LadyEloise1 · 30/09/2022 10:56

Woke up at 3.20 am and remembered I'd put the heating on for an hour last evening and forgot to turn it off. 😱
Had to pad downstairs, out to the utility room ( garage ) to turn it off.
It would have come on at 6.30 am for an hour.
We couldn't waste an hour's gas in the morning when it's still September !!!

🙈

Doggiedoodoos · 30/09/2022 12:23

What is it with all the power cuts? It takes my internet 10 solid minutes to fire back up when the power goes and theres been many small power cuts this morning. I am not happy.

eggandonion · 30/09/2022 14:05

Ohhhh... someone told me that esb substations have a little wobble switch thing, and the third time it wobbles the big switch cuts out until the cause of the wobbles are traced. I have no idea how true this is!
Its definitely autumn now, although trees seem very green. I am dreading winter, i would like some normal life with no covid, no cost of living, no fuel prices, no climate crisis...

TarasChoc · 30/09/2022 15:14

It's strang though that despite the looming costly winter ahead our local towns are busy and seem to be doing a good trade. Everyone I speak with seems to be planning holidays and socialising regularly.
A mixture of high employment and corporation tax cushioning the blow perhaps?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 30/09/2022 16:50

I see the same in our town @TarasChoc I wonder if it's just that becuase the hikes and the cold weather haven't hit us yet, we're all just sort of blissfully unaware/heads in the sand?? To me it feels like the early days of covid, some people really worrying and stocking up etc and others saying what's the big deal? it's over in China it'll fizzle out before it gets here... We just don't really know yet how things are going to be and so because of the covid experience I have a sense of dread Sad I hope it turns out to not be so bad.

JaneJeffer · 01/10/2022 17:36

I think people are happy to be able to go about their business without distancing and masks and all that shite. There's a kind of live for today attitude in the country at the moment. It's lovely to see everyone in good form.

eggandonion · 01/10/2022 19:15

I was wondering today if the masks will return before Christmas, I hope not. Its all very strange, we are lucky that our winters are so much milder than continental ones.

Radyward · 02/10/2022 12:47

What masks back they can swing for it ! Keeping that fear going!! Poor businesses .
Hospital visiting restrictions is a joke. Did ye see joanna Tuffy Td is campaigning to allow visitors into hospitals - and us all vaccinated virtually So hard on familys

eggandonion · 02/10/2022 17:35

I work in retail, and got covid about 3 weeks after the mask mandate vanished. So I will not be unhappy to mask up if figures climb again.
I have been jabbed 4 times, and have a flu jab appointment.

Joolsin · 02/10/2022 23:09

I wouldn't be fussed if masks came back either. Wore them on public transport on holiday this summer (Germany and Italy), both countries had mandatory PF2 mask wearing. I'd say 99% were complying, as far as I could see. Funny how used I was to wearing them in work and how equally used I got to not wearing them!!!

eggandonion · 03/10/2022 11:54

My family members all travel for work, I would like them to wear what I call German masksin airports, planes etc. I have a supply, i think they take them to humour me.
Lots of leaves falling this morning, I suppose we are well into autumn!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 03/10/2022 12:10

I would wear a mask again in crowded places, whether in shops or on transport. I don't know why people get in a spin about it. Let's keep our germs to ourselves :) I might wear one in the run up to Christmas to try and avoid getting sick.

LadyEloise1 · 03/10/2022 13:14

I have no problem wearing a mask unlike sil who, if asked politely, would challenge the person and refuse. I've been embarrassed. Sad

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 03/10/2022 15:22

Of all the restrictions, mask-wearing was the easiest to me. And I can see the benefits of them even without covid when it's winter time and people are full of all sorts of coughs & colds - I'd prefer to mask up and not share people's germs 😷

I still don't find it so chilly, thank God, although the rain on Friday was awful and I'm dreading the dark wet days. I cannot bear to drive in the rain when it's dark, which is a bit of a problem from October - March in Ireland!! I saw an ad for special glasses you wear for night driving but my sister talked me out of them, thankfully Grin I'm only 48 but in the last year or so I've felt 100!!

Radyward · 03/10/2022 19:07

I was totally against masks
Only the ffp3 provide any protection. As for kids in masks. Ridiculous.you do you and ill do me should be respected. No exemptions in this country for anyone was abuse.if my dad with dementia was lambasted in a shop for wearing a mask incorrectly i would have gone mental. People holier than thou. Thinking a dirty piece of paper could protect against a virus.all virtue signalling rubbish
Im saying this as someone who has nursed covid px and worked through the whole pandemic.i am and my family are either triple / quadruple vaxxed . Its a joke. The stupidest country inthe world.the uk has been there done that and moved on.not one more penny should be spent battling covid now as its bankrupted the country . As for mis diagnoses. Staffing issues. Limited visiting allowedin hospitals. Admin in the hse self important with lanyards stopping joe public going into hospitals. Just disgusting - just virtue signalling smoke.an absolute joke. Keep the fear and narrative going to deflect from the shambles we are living in. Omg i for one will not wear a mask outside of work and neither will my family but that aside

We are working 3 jobs to afford the mortgage and our 3 kids. Its tough
I shop around loads and multi buy if i can i follow loads of budgeting mammys on facebook.its worrying the interest rates which is more worrying than any covid. In the govts interest to deflect from the housing mess with covid.met a lovely ukraimian woman today with a 5 yr old.husband back home doing construction for the military so hard.. thats tough. Dunno what to think about the winter coming

eggandonion · 04/10/2022 13:56

I have 3 acquaintances who have been hospitalised with covid since Easter, all fairly fit middle aged men. I would certainly wear a mask again if figures look bad, even if it only helps abit. We still have a screen in work.
I think Mr Putin needs to disappear fairly quickly. He's causing a lot of problems across the world.

halfpasteleven · 07/10/2022 21:21

Poor people of Donegal. I can't stop thinking of them tonight. Hard to believe it could happen.

JaneJeffer · 07/10/2022 22:03

It's shocking Sad

OP posts:
LifeInAHamsterWheel · 07/10/2022 22:09

It's horrific. A small village where everyone will be known. My heart goes out to them 💔

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 08/10/2022 08:57

Absolutely awful. My thoughts are with them.

LadyEloise1 · 08/10/2022 09:57

Thinking of all those involved in the explosion in Creeslough. The bereaved, the injured, the families waiting anxiously for news and those in the rescue services. Sad

threadneedle · 08/10/2022 10:09

It so awful. We go to that area every summer. The shop is the only one in the area, it's a great place, packed to the rafters with stock, lovely, helpful staff. There's a campsite across the road, the shop is heaving in summer. The post office used to be across the road but it moved into the petrol station shop recently. It's a tiny place, really just the pertrol station, a coffee booth, a chemist and an ice cream parlour where the old post office was. There's a beautiful modern church built in a circle.

A lot of people pass through on the way to holiday homes up the road in port an Blagh and Dunfanaghy, and would pull in to stock up as it's a far better supermarket than the one in Dunfanaghy. When you go through Creeslough and turn off the main road towards the sea there are hundreds and hundreds of holiday homes and mobile homes, lots owned by families from the north who come up at weekends. It's a really popular area for surfers. There are beautiful forest walks and we'd go into Creeslough for picnic things and ice cream. The shop is really a community hub.

It would be quieter in October than when we go but after school on a Friday would be a busy time.

It's so shocking, it's the last place in the world you could think of this happening. My heart sank when I saw the news this morning. 7 fatalities is a dreadful number, it's such a small village to carry that burden 😞

JaneJeffer · 08/10/2022 11:13

I put Ireland AM on and it's seems so wrong them taking absolute shite after such a tragedy happening in the country. They should have cancelled it.

OP posts:
Taytocrisps · 08/10/2022 12:04

Just devastating news yesterday and today. I knew an explosion in a petrol station wouldn't have a good outcome but nine people dead now. All going about doing their everyday Friday tasks and looking ahead to the weekend. My thoughts are with everyone connected to the tragedy in any way - the deceased, the injured, their families and friends, those involved in the rescue and treatment of the victims of the explosion. And all who live in the village and surrounding area - a place that will be changed forever now.
