Argh. Secondary school kids are isolating in their rooms as they are both close contacts of a positive case. Hoping for two negative tests on Christmas Day.

Iblinkedandiamold · 22/12/2021 13:27

The novelty of living through something historic has really worn off alright.

eggandonion · 22/12/2021 14:06

Absolutely.

Iblinkedandiamold · 22/12/2021 18:19

Just got my booster. I leave work earlier than the other girls as I am in earlier, so I filled the kids up with hot chocolate and sweets and left. GrinGrin.

LadyCampanulaTottington · 22/12/2021 18:51

My niece and my sister have tested positive. They were with my elderly mother at the weekend and now we’re waiting to see if she’s got it.

The appointments for PCR tests are like gold dust!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 22/12/2021 19:51

Oh no @LadyCampanulaTottington I hope your mum's test comes back negative and that the rest of your family aren't too ill.

My DH got his booster yesterday and doesn't feel well today, he's running a temperature and is very tired and achy. We're supposed to travel tomorrow and it's a long drive Xmas Confused which I really hope I won't be doing as I hate it!

Joolsin · 22/12/2021 20:07

My colleague got a test on Monday afternoon, she's only just heard that it's negative - 50 hours later. She was doing her nut.

eggandonion · 22/12/2021 20:24

@lifeinahamsterwheel I went from boosted to curled up in bed twenty hours later, then a bit sorry for myself for the evening. And full of beans next day (ready to kill workmates the next day though). So Mr Hamster could be invincible in the morning.
Its ramping up, hopefully the vaccine will protect the vaccinated.

Iblinkedandiamold · 22/12/2021 20:48

Oh no @LadyCampanulaTottington that's awful. Hopefully everything will turn out okay.
If I am tired from the booster I won't notice, I am always exhausted.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 22/12/2021 21:08

Thanks egg I hope you're right (though I've never used the word invincible to describe him even at the best of times Grin)

My god 50 hours is a long wait.

I was reading earlier about the chaos at Heathrow, someone had flown to Dublin on Saturday with Santa pressies in the checked-in luggage and when they landed the pilot announced that no luggage had been loaded onto the plane, at all Shock And it's been impossible to get any response from BA. What a nightmare. I need to try find that thread again to see if she got her luggage yet.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 23/12/2021 10:13

I'm delighted to report that lady got her luggage! I was so happy to read her update Xmas Smile

Last day in work today, nobody is in the humour to do any work I'm drinking even more coffee that normal and have that antsy 'too many things in my brain' feeling!

If I'm not on again for a while, I wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas, I love the camaraderie on these threads but I hope that soon it won't be a 'covid' theme and just a general 'life in Ireland' one - fingers crossed!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 23/12/2021 10:46

Many happy returns, Life! Enjoy the holidays when you get there!

I was also very happy to read about the luggage update.

Iblinkedandiamold · 23/12/2021 13:19

Nollaig Shona @LifeInAHamsterWheel.
Delighted the woman was reunited with her bags. I went to the shops what I thought was early this morning, I was wrong, it was busy, more traffic wise than the actually shops. I am watching the grinch now.

halfpasteleven · 23/12/2021 13:29

Lovely to read a happy update re the presents!

Wishing you all a very happy and safe Christmas.. I hope you enjoy it

Carriemac · 23/12/2021 15:48

Nollaig Shona everyone - just got DD boosted she's back from university for Christmas and I feel better about sending her back in the new year!

eggandonion · 23/12/2021 16:41

Wouldn't it be amazing to have a covid free thread Smile
Merry Christmas to all those off now!

123MothergotafleA · 23/12/2021 16:56

Another one relieved that the lady got her bags back. She said that she found them at Dublin Airport and was given great assistance from the staff there. Apparently there were stacks of unclaimed luggage.
I thought this would be a security risk, eg that each piece of baggage should be accompanied.....etc

chartreue · 23/12/2021 18:13

We have another man down here, DH is in bed feeling sorry for himself, I think he has man-covid (lighthearted in case anyone thinks I'm being sexist). DS still has no symptoms, despite the positive PCR. The rest of us are fine, but bored. My older 2 are constantly updating me with names of friends who have it now, it seems pretty rampant amongst older teens/young adults in Dublin at least. But most seem to have little more than the sniffles.

Thankfully we have food and most presents, so we'll be fine. Hoping to have our proper Christmas dinner on New Years Day, we'll just have a Sunday roast, plus stuffing and Ham in coke a la Nigella.

Wishing everyone a very happy Christmas, fingers crossed for a covid free new year.

eggandonion · 23/12/2021 18:30

Is man covid more serious than man booster?

SuddenArborealStop · 23/12/2021 18:47

Anyone know the wait time for PCR has it slowed down a lot? BIl has one at 8 in the morning tomorrow and I'm holding out hope we know it's negative on Christmas morning but I don't even know if they're fully staffed right now

Iblinkedandiamold · 23/12/2021 20:39

I suppose it might depend on where you are. Myself and a work colleague got one last week.we both had results back the next day. Although she went in two hours after ne, she got her results hours before me. However it could be very busy this week

@chartreue sorry to hear you've another victim of Covid.

I'm watching Gremlins, it's been years since I've seen it, I've forgotten it.
Gizmo is still so adorable.

honeyrider · 24/12/2021 02:48

I got my booster vaccine just over 2 weeks ago, it was in an arena, loads of staff with nothing to do because there were so few people being vaccinated. While I was waiting for the 15 mins post vaccination there was between 6 and 12 people waiting.

DS1 tested positive yesterday morning and had his PCR test in the afternoon and he's still waiting for the results. He's isolating with a couple of friends who are all positive. They're travelling back tom it and his friend's dad has moved out of his house so they can isolate together and be nearby. It couldn't come at a worse time for DS1 because his grandad's death is imminent and if he dies in the next 7-8 days he'll miss his grandad's funeral and it's looking likely to happen.

Iblinkedandiamold · 29/12/2021 17:06

I am still negative but I have a bug. Haven't felt right since Monday. This usually happens to me at Christmas time.
Although I see they have added vomiting and loss of appetite to the long list of Covid Symptoms. They must have nothing else to add now. Grin

Joolsin · 29/12/2021 19:28

I've never known so many people either positive or isolating. It's everywhere atm. No NYE celebrations for us, I reckon, too risky.

Iblinkedandiamold · 29/12/2021 19:36

Yes every second person I know is testing positive at the moment. My sister had a positive antigen test today after testing negative for the past few days.
Pcr tests are like Gold dust at the moment.
