Over 1000 cases in hospital, first time topping 1000 since mid January.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/03/2022 15:48

Oh no Fuzzy I hope your DC is ok. I'm hearing of so many cases this past couple of weeks, it certainly hasn't gone away. And I'm seeing fewer and fewer masks when I go out, which is disappointing as I had hoped people would just continue to do it as a form of personal responsibility/accountability. Looking on, it's as if covid never happened! And yet I'm hearing about people coming down with it so often lately. We still have the extra long bank holiday to get through, I wonder will we see a big spike in cases then??

On another equally gloomy note, I'm dreading in imending food shortages. We rely heavily on carbs in my house, teen DC get through so much food it's unreal. Now I'm reading a lot about the grain shortages and I wonder how they'll cope when we have no bread/wraps/cereal/biscuits etc (yes, I know it's not a very healthy diet, but to be honest they eat all the healthy stuff, just lots of this as extras!!) I am torn between wanting to try and prep somehow and burying my head in the sand Sad

honeyrider · 14/03/2022 15:55

Don't forget the beer shortages. Farmers are being encouraged to grow grain.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 14/03/2022 16:22

Thank you Life! He's not too bad with it. He has symptoms of a heavy cold.

I hear you on the food shopping. We go through a lot of food here too and it's already very expensive.

Feelingthepinch22 · 14/03/2022 18:08

Joining in... Cost of living has gone through the roof in the Republic.. Changes I've made are cutting out the hair dressers & colouring my own hair (looks the same), lidl for lunch box basics, changed to pinot grigio from Marlborough sav blanc(saving 3 euro a bottle🤣), using the car & heating way less, bring more mindful of electricity...

Iblinkedandiamold · 14/03/2022 19:38

We rely on a lot of bread products too at work. The afterschoolers are always hungry. I always have crackers and rice cakes. One of our dinners is "pizza" just wraps with pizza sauce and cheese.
Even though I live alone I get through some amount of food too. Grin

A girl in work started Keto about 6 weeks ago so it dominates the conversation at lunchtime! She's just started to get used to it and is seeing some results now too. I told her today that she's ahead of the posse. In a few weeks we'll all be forced to go Keto and will be in the horrors of carb withdrawal Shock Grin

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 14/03/2022 21:50

Oh stop, Life Grin yes, it would solve the problem if we survived to tell the tale Grin

I went low carb for three weeks last summer to shift a few pounds. I did miss toast and marmalade so much, more than anything else.

sillysmiles · 15/03/2022 13:04

changed to pinot grigio from Marlborough sav blanc

I love this!

Feelingthepinch22 · 15/03/2022 13:08

It's saving me 6 euro a week😂🙈

Happy St. Patrick's Day ☘️☘️☘️

eggandonion · 17/03/2022 09:50

Oh no, our leader has the covid and him in America Shock

Feelingthepinch22 · 17/03/2022 09:56

Will he get another shot at Washington next year or is it Leo's turn?

Taytocrisps · 17/03/2022 09:57

Wouldn't you be mortified! They'll have to bleach the bowl of shamrock.
IsFuzzyBeagMise · 17/03/2022 10:16

Poor Mícheál. That's tough on him.

It's supposed to be Leo's turn again next year.

Feelingthepinch22 · 17/03/2022 10:20

This was Mícheál's only shot so🙈🙈 Can't see Fíanna Fáil in power for a long time again..

eggandonion · 17/03/2022 10:39

I think Leo should give him a go next year, that would be polite. Poor Nancy, though, is about 100. So doesn't want the covid.
This is what happens when we have the new normal.

Waterford Whispers News were quick off the mark Grin waterfordwhispersnews.com/2022/03/17/varadkar-last-seen-swimming-to-washington-as-taoiseach-tests-positive-for-covid/

LadyEloise1 · 17/03/2022 12:26

Karma is a b*tch.
Poor Mícheál indeed.
Wasn't he in Bertie's infamous cabinet ?
And Brian Cowen's
The Galway tent etc.
Then we had a ruinous recession.
People died.
Marriages failed.
Homes were lost.

honeyrider · 17/03/2022 17:01

Mehole's big moment on the world stage and it's snatched from him, ah well he'll forget about it just like he forgot how up to his neck he was in it when it came to Fianna Fail ruining the country, he's got awful amnesia doncha know. Wink

Iblinkedandiamold · 19/03/2022 22:57

I couldn't avoid the plague. I tested positive today. Feel fine though.

I'm so sorry to hear it Iblinked. I hope it stays mild for you 🤞take care.
Iblinkedandiamold · 20/03/2022 09:44

Thanks @IsFuzzyBeagMise it was only a matter of time. Lots of the kids tested positive. I am surprised I avoided it for this long considering i work with children. I get an extra week off now but I am thinking about work and all the stuff I have to do. Typical.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 20/03/2022 09:57

I know Iblinked In your line of work, it's very hard to avoid it. You did well to avoid it for so long. Try and take it easy!
