Absolutely Grin

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 17/02/2022 16:50

Stay safe everyone (although usually when there's a fuss made it turns out to be nothing - fingers crossed!)

eggandonion · 17/02/2022 18:07

I was out a while ago, it was very still.

Iblinkedandiamold · 17/02/2022 19:41

We are closed too, delighted. I have three days next week though before midterm.

halfpasteleven · 17/02/2022 21:54

@1Week

Things are getting dearer as well
All the basics are getting dearer..

Here's hoping Eunice is gone by morning/by lunchtime

honeyrider · 17/02/2022 22:50

Red for Cork, Kerry, Waterford and Clare. It's calm so far.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 18/02/2022 07:57

It's fierce windy! Good to be at home!

Owieeee · 18/02/2022 09:01

Do you all have older dcs or are you teachers? I actually work in education but for adults and we are teaching online today with difficulty with small kids at home.... Two of my family members cant do their jobs in hospital as dcs all home. I am in the West, its a bit windy..

eggandonion · 18/02/2022 09:02

It was certainly windy overnight, but yet again our horrible palm tree has survived Confused

I thought it was to be a really rotten day with snow Hmm
It's very windy but sunny here in Dublin.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 18/02/2022 14:35

No, it's rotten down south. Gales and now heavy showers of sleet. Many trees down, power cuts.

eggandonion · 18/02/2022 15:05

I want dramatic snow, not the wet sort. It was nice at midday, now just wet and cold and sleet.
I think the last two massive storms about eight and four years ago did so much tree damage that it is now smaller trees and branches coming down. We haven't had a power cut where I live for a few years, they seem to have moved to the far side of town.

Owieeee · 18/02/2022 17:02

Im right on the coast in the west and its been fine, windy but there's been worse days. Is this a new thing now? Closing schools down when its stormy? Is it all total risk adversion.? It seems to have come hand in hand with the pandemic, lockdowns...and of course people could get hurt in the wrong place at the wrong time like they could in the many storms and normal days we have anyway..Went out with dcs to get fresh air and exercise ao made the best of it. They werent stuck in front of screens all day. Pity there's not more a proactive attitude to all the obesity in Ireland which is a big risk to people's lives. Off topic but so relevant imho.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 18/02/2022 17:20

I'm very sorry to hear of the council worker who lost his life clearing away fallen trees in Co. Wexford. Thoughts with his family.

JaneJeffer · 18/02/2022 17:24

Jesus that's awful Fuzzy. Poor man and his family and colleagues.

Better safe than sorry @Owieeee. One day off school is no big deal in the long run.

May the poor man who died rest in peace.
So sad - he goes off to work in the morning, to help the community and doesn't come home.
How awful for his loved ones.
Deepest sympathy to them.

Wet, windy and light snow here now in Dublin.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 18/02/2022 17:43

It's hard to make the right call, isn't it. Sometimes Met Éireann gets it wrong and the impact isn't as serious in an area that they deemed 'red'. Maybe they need to rethink the weather warning system and refine it. I suppose we have to use our own judgement too.

I would be wary of going into Cork city centre when winds are so strong. There are so many dodgy old buildings with masonry that crumble off in stormy weather. Perhaps we are more risk averse than before. We probably are, but there haven't been many deaths thankfully due to averse weather because of the weather warning system.

May he rest in peace.

Iblinkedandiamold · 18/02/2022 18:45

I was sorry to hear about that man too. It was very windy here but we had a snow warning. The snow didn't really come just sleet. Still I am glad I didn't have to drive. I didn't leave the house today.
Weather is so unpredictable though, it's hard to get it right. It can change so quickly.

Iblinkedandiamold · 20/02/2022 21:27

Hope everyone is okay today. It's wild out there. Although it seems to have calmed down a little now.

JaneJeffer · 20/02/2022 22:27

Got very wild here and the electricity went off for a while but came back in time for The Sunday Game phew Grin

It has been very wild in Co. Cork since early morning yesterday and it's still gusting outside at the moment. A long-lasting storm. I think it is due to end today, but it has been a turbulent few days.

Iblinkedandiamold · 21/02/2022 19:42

Turned out to be a lovely day in the end. Not meant to last though.
