I'm glad they are getting rid of the passports because I don't agree with them. Plus it will stop the eejits from posting "they're tracking our every move" using their mobile phones which are tracking their every move.

I occasionally tell the app that im feeling fine today, because it gives me a polite reply. I had to get a new phone for the covid app, and aib, because my old one was too old.
My husband keeps seeing colleagues in real life, outside, in work having spent lots of time on zooms. He says a lot of people look much older...I think I will retain the mask and wear huge sunglasses so nobody says that about me.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 21/01/2022 13:49

I'm thinking about those who aren't vaccinated, it'll be a nightmare restricting them again

For starters, that's a very small percentage of people you're talking about! But also, they're not really putting anyone at risk other than themselves surely? As we've seen over and over again this past year, being fully vaccinated doesn't stop you getting it or spreading it. So it's a case of personal responsibilty.

I really don't like this idea of pitting people against each other, or shaming people for not getting the vaccine. The few people I know who haven't got it (and of course there could be more who don't talk about it as it's none of my business) are quite normal level-headed people who have, for their own reasons, chosen not to get it. They don't fit in with the caricature of the 'anti vaxxer' that people like to portray. They're not far-left loonies or anything, just normal people. It makes me sad to hear others being so sanctimonious about being vaccinated. I'm vaccinated, and boostered, but I do respect other people's decision not to be and I don't hold it against them or want them to be excluded from society.

JaneJeffer · 21/01/2022 13:55

Totally agree @LifeInAHamsterWheel. Their choice and they've had to follow the rules of non-entry to venues without the passport up until now. The vast majority are vaccinated so it's time to get back to normal because the effect on mental health is taking its toll on a lot of people.

People with compromised immune systems won't have the same protection as those who don't after 3 vaccines so yes they are putting vulnerable people at risk.

As we've seen over and over again this past year, being fully vaccinated doesn't stop you getting it or spreading it. So it's a case of personal responsibilty.
No it didn't stop the spread but thankfully it stopped a serious flow of ill patients clogging up the hospitals.

I'm genuinely concerned for those with little protection despite having the vaccine not trying be sanctimonious to those who haven't.
I'm vaccinated I've had covid, I've no vulnerable parents to worry about, I'm physically fit some people aren't so lucky.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 21/01/2022 14:56

I still don't see what you mean @Emerald5hamrock, sorry. Everyone I know who are immuno-compromised or particularly vunerable to covid, have been vaccinated. How are they at any more risk due to being around someone who isn't vaccinated? Given that vaccinated people can still get it and spread it. This has gone on for so long now, with such horrific impact on lives and livelihoods that I think things need to return to normal as much as possible. If that means that those who remain particularly vunerable need to continue to wear masks or take more precautions than most, then that's what should happen. If I were in that group, that's how I'd feel.

VaddaABeetch · 21/01/2022 16:05

All restrictions gone from tomorrow.

LadyEloise1 · 21/01/2022 18:15

So can the unvaccinated now go into bars, restaurants and cafes ?

Thethreecs · 21/01/2022 18:36

Does anyone know if restrictions in schools have been lifted?

I'm especially worried about dds sn school, she's currently sheilding as the sna brought covid into her classroom 8 days ago and 3 are in hospital with severe illness now, the other 4 including dd are still sheilding and thank god she's still testing negative.

If they remove restrictions in school I'm going to have to re think sending her back Monday.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 21/01/2022 18:46

There is no change for schools Thethreecs. I hope your DD's tests stay negative.

Anotherdayanotheropinion · 21/01/2022 18:50

@LadyEloise1 vaccine certs gone so no restrictions!

I know lots of anti vaxers will be gloating about this when they should be thanking everyone who did get the vaccine and who are responsible for this reopening!

It’s great news!

@Thethreecs no change to school rules or wearing of masks.

Deadringer · 21/01/2022 18:50

Yay, we made it!!!

theDudesmummy · 21/01/2022 18:57

Still certs for international travel though, which I agree with.

Thethreecs · 21/01/2022 18:58

Dds school works still with bubbles which has helped alot, I'd worry if she'd be back mixing with everyone. The children don't wear masks so it's a constant worry but if school is remaing the same that's good.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 21/01/2022 18:58

It's good news. I'm glad we're keeping masks in certain settings.

Anotherdayanotheropinion · 21/01/2022 19:33

So excited about the restrictions being lifted! Don’t know why as I’ve no plans to go anywhere 😂😂

JaneJeffer · 21/01/2022 19:35

Same @Anotherdayanotheropinion Grin but hopefully I'll be able to go to a Gaelic match soon.

I'm happy for the young people who have had no real social life for two years.

I really don't know how retail staff will be able to encourage customers to keep masks on. People not keeping credit cards or banknotes between their teeth before handing them over has been a very pleasant change!

Iblinkedandiamold · 21/01/2022 20:35

I am glad they are keeping masks. I just spent a fountune on some new ones.
I can't wait to start making excuses to not go out again. Grin

eggandonion · 21/01/2022 20:54

I have loads of masks too, although the washable ones seem to be joining up with odd socks wherever they go. I have a lot of antigen tests and sanitizer too.

Radyward · 21/01/2022 23:08

So adults can sit in pubs all.night with no mask or distancing but my 3 kids have to wear masks in NS. They need to end masks in school for children.

I think they're ending wearing masks in school at the end of February, think I heard the reasoning to keep them until then is to give enough time to vaccinate 5-12 year olds that want the vaccine.
Joolsin · 22/01/2022 16:50

Our school is riddled with covid at the moment, mostly in the younger classes i.e. the ones that don't have to wear masks. Not nearly so many cases amongst the older mask-wearing ones. Lots of the smaller pupils are now wearing masks by choice/their parents' choice. Thankfully, loads are heading off every day to be vaccinated, so I'm hopeful that it will have all calmed down soon and we can safely, like @honeyrider says, dispense with the masks.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 22/01/2022 17:54

Hopefully. It will be reviewed in four or five weeks, not that long. I'll be easier in my mind once my youngest gets her second jab.

Remembering that thread some time ago about the lost craic.
