Are people who live in England planning to visit family in Ireland this summer?

I was feeling optimistic but Delta variant is making me less so. I'm fully vaccinated but would still have to isolate 5 days, DS(6) is of course not vaccinated.

I'm also not sure how people in Ireland feel about those flying in from London? Is it a dick move?

And if we fly to NI and lure my parents up to holiday with us, would they have to isolate on returning home?

I believe the rules have been updated on these two government sites
www.gov.ie/en/publication/b4020-travelling-to-ireland-during-the-covid-19-pandemic/
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel_and_recreation/travel_to_ireland/travel_to_ireland_during_covid.html

You will still need a PCR test within 3 days of departure.
It says you still need to quarantine for 14 days but you can stop quarantining if you pass a PCR test, taken 5 days after your arrival.
There is now, no mention of a second test required after 10 days.

kissmelittleass · 15/07/2021 13:00

So it looks like we all have to pay huge amounts of money to have a pcr test to return to Ireland so 😫😫

Phial · 15/07/2021 13:22

www.gov.ie/en/publication/77952-government-advice-on-international-travel/

This states that if you are vaccinated then no testing and no quarantine.
No mention of children.
Does not say how long quarantine is for unvaccinated.
I hope they clarify, or we will just have to make the decision among ourselves here.

@kissmelittleass anyone vaxxed? Ages?

WeatherToday · 15/07/2021 13:40

@kissmelittleass
Is the UK a country to which an emergency brake has been applied?
Where is the list of countries?

kissmelittleass · 15/07/2021 14:13

@MegCleary hi yes myself and teenage ds are double vaccinated and obviously dd age 12 no vaccination.
@Phial I'll read that now , I thought I had to pay for pcr tests to return to Ireland from uk? Hope I'm wrong

Notstrongandstable · 15/07/2021 14:18

I cannot believe how shit the Irish Government have been! They need to put the information clearly in one place. FGS, the legislation expires on Monday and people have no clue what the new rules are. Totally ridiculous

MegCleary · 15/07/2021 14:19

So I think you’d just have to pay for your 12 year old, unless emergency brake applied. Again no expert

Agree with this. It looks like vaccinated people won't need tests but unvaccinated do (including kids 12 and over). I have two kids who would need tests, but if it meant no quarantine, I'd be fine with that.

If I am honest I think vaccinated people should test as well (if only it were cheaper), and I would be fine with the Irish Times article suggestion of a Day 5 test but no prior isolation. I'd be happy to keep local and outdoors for the whole time I'm there, just not confined to one house for the duration.

ChimneyPot · 15/07/2021 15:33

@Phial
Where have you read that kids who have PCRs wouldn’t need to quarantine?
I thought all unvaccinated people at to quarantine if they arrive from GB?

I haven't read anything beyond speculation about kids, I think that's the main problem at the moment.
I think Ireland are the only country that are doing this though, other countries are allowing unvaccinated children with a PCR.
And of course children from EU countries are allowed in without quarantine.

www.dfa.ie/irish-embassy/uae/news-and-events/news-archive/covid-19-travel-frequently-asked-questions-.html#NineteenJuly

This is promising. As long as the UK doesn't have an emergency brake applied it looks like the need for a PCR test & isolation is officially gone from the 19th July for vaccinated people.

Added bonus is that those vaccinated with Pfizer only have to wait 7 days after 2nd vaccine to be allowed entry.

mydailymailhell · 15/07/2021 19:52

The gov.ie website has finally been updated around what testing is expected for children.

www.gov.ie/en/publication/77952-government-advice-on-international-travel/#travelling-with-children

Still nothing on quarantine though.

mydailymailhell · 15/07/2021 20:38

I would flag up as well in case this is relevant to anyone, that if you are fully vaccinated and travelling with a newborn (younger than 28 days) then you are all exempt from quarantine

geekaMaxima · 16/07/2021 12:45

@kissmelittleass

Just look it at the cost of the pcr test in uk to return home to Ireland and it's going to cost 125-170 pounds each!!! So it's going to cost me an extra 375 pounds or more!!! for three of us! Now that is scandalous
Shop around - it's possible in most areas to get one for £99-120. The big providers at airports are usually the cheapest. They're often focused on arrival testing but all the ones I've seen offer PCR departure testing for travel too with various turnaround times (e.g. you'll pay less for 48 hours than 24 hours or same-day).
Notstrongandstable · 16/07/2021 13:17

I've just emailed the Embassy in London to try to get some clarity on the quarantine issue.
Cannot understand why they have not mentioned it!

MegCleary · 16/07/2021 13:22

What happens with families from the EU? It seems 12 year olds PCR no matter where from but to unvaxxed EU children quarantine?

MegCleary · 16/07/2021 13:27

@Notstrongandstable if you get any info will you let us know please.

Notstrongandstable · 16/07/2021 13:39

Of course Meg. I don't hold much hope..when I spoke to them on the phone a couple of weeks back the lady who dealt with me was unprofessional to say the least..she used the phrase "quarantine and all that jazz"
That Gov.ie page has changed now..before they specifically mentioned GB travellers. There is far less info on there than there was a couple of weeks ago when we started discussing this.

kissmelittleass · 16/07/2021 13:45

Do you know I can't understand a damn thing about requirements there's not a lot of updated information for one!!
I'm flying Wednesday and I'm clueless I wish they could give us the facts!

kissmelittleass · 16/07/2021 13:47

Everything I've read contradicts the next thing I read ..

mydailymailhell · 16/07/2021 14:26

It’s all so incredibly unclear and confusing.

Notstrongandstable · 16/07/2021 15:26

Had a reply from the Embassy:

"We will provide a comprehensive update on travel as soon as possible and will be in touch then with further information.

I will send an email once the new rules on travel are announced for GB"
