Are people who live in England planning to visit family in Ireland this summer?

I was feeling optimistic but Delta variant is making me less so. I'm fully vaccinated but would still have to isolate 5 days, DS(6) is of course not vaccinated.

I'm also not sure how people in Ireland feel about those flying in from London? Is it a dick move?

And if we fly to NI and lure my parents up to holiday with us, would they have to isolate on returning home?

My dc are going over next week to stay with their dad. Pcr before they fly. No idea about isolation though

WeatherToday · 06/07/2021 00:13

@EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall
Maybe you should do some research!
They'll need to quarantine for somewhere between 6 and 14 days depending on how you interpret the rules.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 06/07/2021 00:35

@WeatherToday I don't need to do any research. They are with their dad. It's up to him to know how long they need to isolate for

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 06/07/2021 01:01

No. We can test out after 5 days but the new advice says that unvaccinated kids travelling from the UK (not EU) have to do the full quarantine.
My kids have spent enough time stuck in the house over the past year and I'm not taking two weeks holiday to sit indoors.
No clue if it's reasonable or not and how many people at home will be fully vaccinated by when. It is what it is and I make no judgement on the Irish govt. I just hope we don't need to use the next letter of the Greek alphabet anytime soon.... Hmm

WeatherToday · 06/07/2021 08:53

@TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams
The new advice is just that, advice, it is not a legal requirement.

@WeatherToday

Where has this new info come from, is it fact??
Happy to do 5 days but can’t make them at 10 & 13 do 10 or 14 days!!!

WeatherToday · 06/07/2021 12:49

www.gov.ie/en/...e-covid-19-pandemic/
says
all arriving passengers from Great Britain are required by law to quarantine at home for 14 days
if you travel from Great Britain, the 14-day period of home quarantine can be shortened if you receive a not-detected RT-PCR test result from this test taken at least 5 days after arrival

Advice for those arriving from Great Britain (including those travelling from Great Britain via Northern Ireland) who are not fully vaccinated
If you are not fully vaccinated, you are advised to take a further RT-PCR test at least 10 days after arrival in Ireland. You are requested to stay in quarantine until you get a ‘not detected’ RT-PCR test result from this day 10 test.

I have kids and I'm interpreting the last bit of 'advice' as voluntary so will ignore it until I hear anything different.

That’s hard for parents to be out and children in for another 5. I’m all of a flitter. I’m thinking of taking them out of school here before we go and being cautious. To then lock them up for 10 when we get home.

StuckInABox · 06/07/2021 13:05

Following this thread as my parents also live in Ireland and we haven't seen them since October 2019. My dad is starting to really struggle not seeing us, it's all so hard. But would be extremely hard to quarantine for 2 weeks with a 9yo, 6yo and 2 month old! I'll admit the rules are confusing me too. Apparently they are expecting a rough August with the delta variant though

MegCleary · 06/07/2021 13:10

@StuckInABox beginning to think there is no point going round in circles till they announce if the emergency brake going on on the 19/7 Sad
Booked for later in July but what else can we do. Was tempted to ring the Irish coronavirus line for and ask!

StuckInABox · 06/07/2021 13:15

The thing is, if cases are high I'm worried about travelling anyway, and don't want to be part of the problem. But we miss them so much, can't believe it's been 2 years almost. I agree with the pp about might as well be in Australia!

Phantasmo · 06/07/2021 13:19

I haven't seen my parents since Christmas '19 and am definitely going home in August even if I have to swim. Will be double vaxxed, taken a PCR test, will quarantine for 5 days and then take another test.

PearlFriday · 06/07/2021 13:23

I'm vaccinated, so I say ''come!''. Eat, drink, visit with your family, spend money, be merry.

I hope you have a good time.

So sick of it all now. I have friends in London I would like to visit. Hopefully one day.

MegCleary · 06/07/2021 13:23

That’s my hope too @Phantasmo but they might make it hotel quarantine for unvaccinated from uk so what do I do with the children or 10 days for unvaccinated and that’s going to be so harsh on the children.

HattieMid2 · 06/07/2021 13:24

My best friend is getting married on the 7th August - I’m supposed to be one of her bridesmaids. Absolutely desperate to go (we’re in London). Really hope they relax restrictions soon but I’m not feeling hopeful 😢

Phantasmo · 06/07/2021 13:47

Is that being mooted? Bloody Tories and their 'let the Covid flow freely' mentality. Hotel quarantine for 10 days is just financially beyond most families isn't it? Plus it would be miserable.
MegCleary · 06/07/2021 13:56

From citizens information website

Are people who live in England planning to visit family in Ireland this summer?
MegCleary · 06/07/2021 13:59

They can do what they want and I don’t blame them. But I am now desperate to be confident we’ll get home. Cancelled Christmas as it wasn’t safe now we are vaxxed except children. My parents are vaxxed but Boris the brexit wankface wanted an India trade deal and now I scared we won’t get home in July

Phantasmo · 06/07/2021 14:00

The UK had been considered a special case, being part of the CTA even though outside the EU. I've googled re. the hotel quarantine thing for people coming from the UK and it seems to have been mentioned in a few media outlets in mid June but I can't find anything more recent.

MegCleary · 06/07/2021 14:14

I think the concern is people will just go to the north and head south so it would be hard to control. I am happy to do the 5 days just 10 is hard on the children

WeatherToday · 06/07/2021 15:04

yes, I think we could manage 5 days but not 10.

For us 5 days would be 1 day travelling, 4 days quarantining and on the next day drive 50 miles to have a PCR test ... so at least we'd be out of the house.
10 days quarantining isn't really do-able unless your going for over a month ... even then I wouldn't inflict it on our kids.
I don't see the logic in doing a second test after 10 days if you've passed one after 5 days.

MegCleary · 06/07/2021 20:46

@WeatherToday @Phantasmo
Found this on Twitter looks like children 19 days Sad. Now this may change on 19/7 or may get harsher

Kotatsu · 06/07/2021 20:55

We're coming in the other direction, but I confess we've re-booked to come home via Belfast - we'll self-isolate once we're home, but I'm not going to put my 7 year old (and TBH the 10 year old who's not good at this stuff) through a PCR test - although I'm happy to, and the ferries last week were saying they'd need PCR tests from all of us, and I just can't risk what the rules will be by the end of the month.

I think people (outside of the youngsters in the middle of Dublin) are being fairly sensible given how long we've been in strict lock-down. Everyone I see is wearing their mask, sanitising etc. but it's been a long time, and we're all pretty fatigued by it.

Decorhate · 06/07/2021 20:55

I’ve been checking the rules for after 19th July (assuming this goes to plan). If you are coming from a EU country & fully vaccinated, no quarantine & kids under 18 ok too as long as they have a negative PCR test.

HOWEVER, if you are coming from a non-EU country, eg UK, vaccinated adults are ok but anyone not vaccinated (including kids presumably) must quarantine.

That is so unfair IMO.

MegCleary · 06/07/2021 21:00

I don’t mind a 5 day quarantine it’s 10 that’s harsh. And if from third country like USA or UK it’s had to find what the plan is for children that embassy post is the first mention I’ve seen of minors
