Are people who live in England planning to visit family in Ireland this summer?

I was feeling optimistic but Delta variant is making me less so. I'm fully vaccinated but would still have to isolate 5 days, DS(6) is of course not vaccinated.

I'm also not sure how people in Ireland feel about those flying in from London? Is it a dick move?

And if we fly to NI and lure my parents up to holiday with us, would they have to isolate on returning home?

The regulation that governs home quarantine and pre travel testing runs out on 19th and the Dail breaks up for summer this week - I understand that a new regulation is forthcoming. I heard mention on RTE that they are talking about children under 12 now not having to test. That would fit in with the general trend and what the EU has advised re minors.

The approach of as per the digital passport for third countries i.e. Britain is unvaccinated people don’t have to do pre arrival testing. Question mark as to whether Ireland will adopt that approach (they should) and big question mark around children (but I am hopeful)
I’ve booked flights for a few days after the 19th and keeping my fingers crossed

Just found this thread, I'm in Ireland and am really needing to book my flights today to go next week. Haven't seen my elderly parents in over a year and if I don't go I know with this carry on it'll be next summer before I can go again and I'd never forgive myself if anything was to happen god forbid.
Lots of us in the same boat, I am finding it all confusing and if I don't book today for next week the prices are just going up and up for flights plus flights are sparse the days of two flights or more a day are gone!
So I have a few questions if anyone can help, the EU vaccine passport? I haven't received one I'm double vaccinated as is my teenage son at our GP surgery so can we travel if we haven't received one by next week?
Also bringing my dd age 12 unvaccinated so on return do all three of us need a pcr test up to 72 hours before return flight?
I've checked the cost of pcr tests for travel in uk and omg it's going to cost 120 pounds for each test!!!! Absolutely scandalous it's going to cost me 360 pounds to be able to return back to Ireland!!!!
If my parents weren't elderly I'd be tempted not to go but that's not the case but I'm finding the rules confusing and if I book flights today am I fecked if rules change on the 19th ??
TIA

I'm in Ireland and know of many cases of Irish visiting from the UK, usually to provide temporary care for elderly parents. Not much, I don't think, will change on 19th July, other than not needing a reason such as the above. I can't find any info on whether you still need a negative PCR prior to travel if double vaccinated.

I don't have a problem with uk visitors, provided they follow the rules/test on day 5 etc. If people need to see/visit elderly family, you may not bet a second chance. Hard if logistically you can't manage even home quarantine to make a trip viable.

There's definitely a feeling we paid for the mistakes in the UK handling of the pandemic, I feel this too, but now with quarantine guidelines in place I hope it makes necessary visits feasible for those who need to.

Latest advice published today. Parliament adjourns tomorrow and no further debates on Covid travel stuff planned.

Thanks for update. Looks like vaccinated people don't need tests or quarantine, but their children could need both. How would that work in reality?

mydailymailhell · 14/07/2021 18:08

Well at the moment the law governing all of that runs out on Monday. Am curious to see how it’s all dealt with

MegCleary · 14/07/2021 18:42

The gov.ie advice is so different to the citizens.information one! Wish they’d just update. But bet once they do one of the children will isolated and will have to reorganise it all Confused

mydailymailhell · 14/07/2021 18:53

In my desperation I read the bill that was put before the Dáil today - only references I could spot were to hotel quarantine and that regime being extended to October.

MegCleary · 14/07/2021 18:57

@mydailymailhell fair play to you I have a few comments on threads here, tweets going and family researching at home what the craic is. Sigh

From tonight's Irish Times

Are people who live in England planning to visit family in Ireland this summer?

Are people who live in England planning to visit family in Ireland this summer?
mydailymailhell · 14/07/2021 23:20

Thanks @MrsMaiselsRedCoat - did read this tonight and my assumption is they are only referencing over 12s because there will be no testing of quarantine for under 12s.

There is a reference to a plan outlined to cabinet on 6 July but I can’t locate any minutes of that meeting

kissmelittleass · 14/07/2021 23:46

My dd is 12 so which category does she fall into the under or over 12?

MegCleary · 15/07/2021 04:42

@mydailymailhell I think you’ve become my new hero. Tenacious

kissmelittleass · 15/07/2021 08:27

Just look it at the cost of the pcr test in uk to return home to Ireland and it's going to cost 125-170 pounds each!!! So it's going to cost me an extra 375 pounds or more!!! for three of us! Now that is scandalous

MegCleary · 15/07/2021 09:09

@kissmelittleass it’s so hard isn’t it. I take it you are coming to uk to see parents and then back? If the rules change you may not need a PCR as fully vaxxed and child under 12 may not (I think Blush)

kissmelittleass · 15/07/2021 09:18

@MegCleary hi yes very frustrating! I'm in Ireland and now booked to visit my elderly parents next week it's been over a year so need to see them.
My youngest dd is 12 so not sure what the rules will be there, the amount it's going to cost to get return pcr tests is really scandalous but I don't have a choice plus I can't see anywhere locally to my parents that do it, very hard and stressful!
The digital passport for vaccination is confusing too, I'm going uk next Wednesday and so far haven't received mine in post ( had my vaccines at GPsurgery) so I hope my vaccination card will be enough?

kissmelittleass · 15/07/2021 09:20

Also I'm praying the rules change and we don't need return pcr to get back to Ireland 🤞

MegCleary · 15/07/2021 09:23

I hope to go hone to Ireland next Friday would love some clarity on what happens with PCR for children and quarantine. Not seen them since Christmas 2019. And past sanity now with googling and tweeting to try and figure it out. And bet one of the children will get self isolated here before we go and it will all fall through anyway SadSad

mydailymailhell · 15/07/2021 09:32

I hope there’s some announcement today. Will be very interested in whether it’s rules or guidance, how it will be enforced etc as the current law runs out on Monday and no further Covid laws are in front of parliament today, it’s last day of sitting. There must be some mechanism in missing but I am watching with interest

Phial · 15/07/2021 09:46

@kissmelittleass

My dd is 12 so which category does she fall into the under or over 12?
I think it's under 12, so aged 12 you need a PCR. Very happy to be wrong - I also have a 12 year old!
mydailymailhell · 15/07/2021 10:51

The law has now changed to say under 12s don’t need a PCR so it’s anyone who is 11 and younger

MegCleary · 15/07/2021 10:56

@mydailymailhell where did you spot that my travel warrior/guru

mydailymailhell · 15/07/2021 12:30

I think I read the actual Dáil debate on the new legislation that was passed yesterday….let me see if I can find the info

MegCleary · 15/07/2021 12:33

Bless ya, debate or not we need the official websites updated so we can have some clarity. But you are now a legend
