tazzy73 thanks for the insight into what it's like on the ground. What a nightmare for all the staff.

I heard on the radio yesterday that it might be a case of building some of the systems up completely from scratch again. That will cost millions even without paying the ransom, and more importantly take time.

SecondRow · 18/05/2021 07:23

Good point about the admin staff eggandonion!

I wonder if hospitals could use volunteer runners for all this extra fetching and carrying - maybe some vaccinated older people who like getting their steps? Although confidential patient data so maybe not, even if most of it's already in the hands of the hackers.

tazzy73 · 18/05/2021 11:55

What I put up is only the tip of the iceberg
Staff are not sure if they will be paid. Some hospitals have told staff they won't while others have said the opposite. The majority of nurses I work with rent so they are worried.
Hopefully it will be resolved.

eggandonion · 18/05/2021 12:07

I hope salaries can be processed for the sake of staff morale.
Some expert earlier seemed to suggest that the complicated structure of hospital management meant the system is not one giant system...and that's good in a way, just now!

I really hope staff are paid. To be working in these new conditions and it receive payment is unthinkable.
SecondRow · 18/05/2021 13:40

What I read in the news said payroll won't be affected... But I suppose they would say that, wouldn't they!

Dublincailin · 18/05/2021 17:05

Staff are going to be paid. That is a priority.

Carriemac · 18/05/2021 17:07

Paid basic wage but not overtime or enhanced pay I think?

Dublincailin · 18/05/2021 17:07

It all has to be done manually, I mammoth task but staff due to be paid this week will be paid.

Dublincailin · 18/05/2021 17:09

No, there is no way to process OT, travel & subs etc.

This will be tidied up in the following payroll

JaneJeffer · 18/05/2021 18:34

Why the fuck do the Russians want to hack our health system?

LadyEloise · 18/05/2021 18:38

@JaneJeffer they hack so they can hold the country to ransom.
If they aren't paid €18 million euro they will release our confidential health information on the Internet

JaneJeffer · 18/05/2021 18:41

But surely they know we're not going to pay?

Dublincailin · 18/05/2021 19:04

They will try anyway. We are vulnerable with remote working. Get as much as they can personal info us valuable, pps etc is highly valuable. There is a big market in Ireland for pps numbers here. I saw that regularly, managers would work with other depts to deal with pps.

This was done to NHS in either 2017/8.
They tried to get in to HSE then and our systems held, email, communication were down. There was extra protection was introduced then with regular warnings don't open strange links.

Carriemac · 18/05/2021 21:22

As an aside , those Isiah living in the Uk did you know you can still get an EHIC ?

www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/healthcare-abroad/apply-for-a-free-uk-global-health-insurance-card-ghic/

Saw this on the martin lewis money show

Means you get free GP care in Ireland 🇮🇪 f you're on hols there

Suppliers aren't sure they will be paid this week either. One of DH's friends is going into her company overdraft as HSE can't pay them this week but they (HSE) also can't confirm the amount she is owed as systems are frozen. Luckily she has a friendly bank manager but some suppliers won't be so lucky. I'm public sector too and IS have reported a phenomenal number of fake and phishing emails arriving into our system this week. We would be in HSE systems as a customer and as a supplier as we share some services.

Dublincailin · 18/05/2021 22:30

@MissMaudSilver

We are hoping to get Sap up and running as another priority.

There are twice daily meetings with constant updates and looking and contingency plans if possible.

Plus HSE is working with Sap to try to get the payment service up and smooth ASAP.

Dublincailin · 18/05/2021 22:32

There is a lot been done behind the scenes all the while trying keep services available where possible.

There is about 100,000 people in HSE. It is a mammoth task

Dublincailin · 18/05/2021 22:36

I would have had about ten or more phishing emails a day.

A few of them had email addresses with colleagues names in them. Only I could ask my colleague about the email as we are in the office i could easily have clicked on a link.

It was very well done.

Apileofballyhoo · 18/05/2021 22:59

They're absolute fuckers. When my brother was being treated for cancer we were all so worried about tests and results, I can't imagine going through that and the HSE being hacked and everything up in the air.

MissMaudSilver · 18/05/2021 23:28

@dublincailin
I can only imagine! The HSE is enormous, I'd say everyone is frazzled at the moment trying to sort out their own areas. The phishing emails sent to my organisation are very realistic, my name wasn't attached to any as I'm not accounts payable anymore but I recognised several of the names as bonafide suppliers. I'd probably have clicked it open too. Scary times.

Dublincailin · 19/05/2021 08:05

My understanding for salary for anyone been paid tomorrow is an exact replica of the previous payroll.

So a lot of people won't be affected financially as in their salary stays the same.

But anyone who does shift work could be under or overpaid.

It is the quickest way to get it done. Payroll runs on Thursday and Friday night.

I am not in accounts payable so I am not sure the plan for them. They would have had a run last Thursday I think but I don't know if it happened.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 19/05/2021 13:14

It is disgusting to target the systems of a public health service, but at the same time how can we expect these people to have any sort of moral code? I can only imagine the scale of the problem and how difficult it is for anyone working there. My friend's son came off his bike on Sunday evening, split his head open and hurt his arm. They took him to Crumlin hospital and said it was a disaster! They didn't even think of it until they got there and were told that everything was going to be difficult. Xray results, previous history etc. My heart goes out to anyone who's currently waiting on test results for serious illness, more hassle on top of all the worry Sad

On a positive note, I got my hair done! The hairdresser said the atmosphere there was brilliant, everyone who came in was so happy to be there!

I am impatiently waiting for indoor dining to resume, I'm not a fan of eating outdoors, regardless of the weather, and I am really looking forward to perusing a menu and having my meal served up to me (for a BIG change!!)

Dublincailin · 19/05/2021 14:17

So I bring good news to anyone anxious about salary tomorrow.

It goes through in time as the info was in.

Next week is a different story but it is too early to say what will happen.

It is changing hourly never mind daily.

Dublincailin · 19/05/2021 14:17

Goes should be got through
