I've never had to show my ID for voting because the woman who does the ballot lives across the road from me Grin

Great...

@JaneJeffer

Great...
Has it crashed? Husband got his appointment notification today - Pfizer on Friday. I am waiting for my text with baited breath - I hope I'll hear tomorrow or maybe Friday.
theDudesmummy · 12/05/2021 21:52

My vaccine was six days from registration

JaneJeffer · 12/05/2021 21:58

Seems to have @Joolsin. DH registered earlier this evening and it was working then.

ContinuousMonotoneBeep · 12/05/2021 22:00

@eggandonion

I can't believe the fuss in the uk about needing photo I'd to vote. I needed it to get a vaccine, and I needed it to lodge money in the credit union a few months ago, into my own account.
Yeah it's weird (never shown I'd here, despite not being kniw there)

Though to be honest I doubt it's a proper representation of fuss, more a case of empty vessels make most noise.

eggandonion · 12/05/2021 22:01

I was in Pairc Ui Cuiv, it is incredibly well organized, possibly because of a lot of defence forces personnel and gaa car parking men. I know it was a slow start but it seems to be running well now.

I think I am the only person anywhere to have Astra Zenica. Except for my husband who has man flu as a result.
I got AZ about 3 days before they decided to stop it for the under 60s(?). Had a raging hangover-like after effects for 2 days, but fine since then.
eggandonion · 12/05/2021 22:13

I take piriton for insect bites, to help me sleep. Then I wake up feeling like I have cotton wool in my head...I feel like that!

The centre at Gakway racecourse was the most efficient and professional organisation you could imagine

Great! A friend of mine went there and got the AZ too. DH is going to City Hall for the Pfizer next week.

Ah no, I do get it. Officially here i think you need ID and/or your polling card - but I've never had or used either because it's a small hall in rural Ireland and everything at least half knows everyone!

But if has to be either a driving license or passport then that excludes people who are poor or underprivileged. Because passports are expensive if you are on tight poverty line, and it would be unnecessary if you can't afford to travel outside there country. Driving license- how many people do not drive?

It would have to be done in a way that doesn't exclude people.

eggandonion · 12/05/2021 23:00

At least people should take polling cards . I'm fairly sure that uk electoral registers are updated every year.

Carriemac · 13/05/2021 07:30

Voter fraud is increasing so I can se the point of ID but it's exclusionary.

Here in NI you need photo ID but if you don't have a driving licence or passport, you can get one from the Electoral Commission for free.

sillysmiles · 13/05/2021 10:45

Is voting fraud actually increasing though, or is it just based off the reactions to the US elections that there is a perception that voter fraud is increasing? I recently listening to a podcast called The Improvement Association - about voter fraud in the US, and the realty was that people thought it was happening but it really wasn't.
eggandonion · 13/05/2021 14:01

If it is exclusionary in GB, why isn't it in NI? I find my government ID card very handy, as it fits in with all my unused coffee loyalty cards , apart from the fact it doesn't have a date of birth on it.
Speaking of fraud, about 20 people tried to convince me to go north for a vaccine. I have an nhs number, but no address, and no uk photo ID!

Vote early and often! Wink

Pils are coming over for a hug this evening. They’re both extremely vulnerable so we’ve been very careful of them. The dc are so excited but I have a feeling the pils are even more so. Even after a year of this it feels very surreal that hugging a grandparent could be such a big event.

thelegohooverer · 13/05/2021 14:40

Does anyone have any tips for getting through checkout on the IKEA website? I get as far as entering my eircode and then it steadfastly ignores me.

Aw. Have a lovely evening thelegohooverer. The first of many visits again.

Oh God - the HSE hacking !
As if there weren't enough problems in the country.
F*cking hackers.

Apileofballyhoo · 15/05/2021 09:46

It's particularly shit to hack a country's health service - especially in the middle of a pandemic. Hack a multinational corporation or something. Or don't hack!
