I think we've been blessed with the weather in October ( here in Dublin at least ) it will help make the winter shorter. Smile

The title of this thread is "the Exit"
It's a long time coming and it might even be delayed on the 22nd. Sad

halfpasteleven · 17/10/2021 13:07

Yes the weather has been great for october- v warm. I think it is to turn cooler on Wednesday.

Iblinkedandiamold · 17/10/2021 17:09

Today is childish here and raining but I love how fresh it is. I love this time of year, all the colours, it's beautiful.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 17/10/2021 19:08

€1.64 for petrol here today Shock

Yes it's been unseasonably mild for this time of year, today was a beautiful day. I hate the dark mornings and evenings so I'm happy they've been delayed a bit!

Doesn't seem like we're exiting at all does it? More like we exited through one of those giant revolving doors and did a full 360 ending up back inside Hmm And now Ronan's stirred the pot by telling people to continue to work from home throughout autumn/winter!!

I feel sorry for anyone who had postponed weddings to November/December thinking they'd get the full numbers.

eggandonion · 17/10/2021 19:18

I did like seeing Ronan in his casual sweater telling me off, but im concerned about tony. My hairdresser gave up on the wedding for the time being, and is having a baby instead .

Iblinkedandiamold · 17/10/2021 19:27

I meant Coldish not childish, stupid auto correct.

Iblinkedandiamold · 17/10/2021 20:38

So I guess there will be no bank hol in November then. That would've been nice.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 18/10/2021 14:21

No certainly doesn't seem like it @Iblinkedandiamold although maybe it will be part of their big announcement later in the week?!

I'm so conflicted about the news of rising cases. I feel all on-edge again. People around me are panicking about the numbers and being all worst-case-scenario (looking at you DH Hmm) and the sentiment against "anti-vaxxers" is quite nasty. I just can't believe that such a small percentage of people unvaccinated can be the cause of the rise in numbers or indeed the panic. Waterford has the highest percentage of people vaccinated - over 99% - and yet it also now has the highest incidence rate of Covid. So it has to be that the vaccine is not as effective as we'd thought/hoped. And while I see an argument for giving boosters to some people, I also agree with WHO that we shouldn't give boosters until all those vunerable and at risk in other countries have at least had an initial dose. Not only that, but I admit I'm nervous about getting 3 or more doses of this vaccine in the space of a year - has that been tested on anyone? I'd also like to know of the numbers in hospital with covid, how many of them got it while in hospital. But most importantly, I don't understand why our health system is in danger of collapse if we have 60 patients in ICU beds. This has been going on so long, surely we could have invested in this area by now?

I'm fed up with it all and the low-level anxiety and the just not bloody knowing what is going to happen I know nobody has a crystal ball

Iblinkedandiamold · 18/10/2021 17:19

Theg don't want people to know that vaccinated people are getting the virus incase it turns people off being vaccinated. They say 90% of the population is vaccinated so I don't know why numbers haven't been coming down. They seem to be the same as they always were. When is the announcement now, is it still Friday or is it Wednesday? I am confused.

honeyrider · 19/10/2021 01:13

Lots of positive cases in my area, the numbers I know are in school/montessori settings. Also 36 positive cases in a nursing home with 78 residents and a further 10 awaiting their results.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 19/10/2021 12:57

Announcement right now on RTE, Meehole and Leo at their podiums. Apparently it's a 'twin peaks' situation and vaccine immunity is waning.

sillysmiles · 19/10/2021 17:28

vaccine immunity is waning.

18 months in and they still can't be proactive.

The data from Isreal showed immunity wanes over time from 6 months. A lot of the population were vaccinated over the summer (June/July /August time), so why can't they start planning now for a booster program, rather than waiting until we are into Dec/ Jan, - people are past their 6 months and then start scrambling for a booster program.

Iblinkedandiamold · 19/10/2021 21:04

I'm so tired of everything but I am also physically tired, weather isn't helping. Luckily this week is a free for all in work. I just want to have fun and I want the children to have fun. That's just the mood I am in.
Mind you I am mostly play and child led so there is a lot of freedom with boundaries obviously. They don't run wild...mostly. Grin

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 20/10/2021 14:52

Even the way they're planning to use LFTs now is a joke Hmm Luke O'Neill on the radio yesterday evening was saying how it's been a long time coming, we're 'behind the curve' on this. They're proposing to send an LFT pack to anyone who is a close contact of a positive case and is fully vaccinated. Why not just send a bucket load of LFTs to every household and let people use them as needed?? This is what Luke O'Neill suggested, it's what is happening all around Europe, but we're going to give out a limited supply of them and expect everyone else to buy them? Why not issue them in schools & colleges and large workplaces etc., before live events and gatherings, to anyone wanting to visit a loved one in hospital etc. WHY can't we get these things right??

shrugshrug · 20/10/2021 16:01

Sad to hear of the death of Brendan Kennelly the poet.
He had a smile that would cheer the sadddest.

He spoke of the advice given to him by his father - " Brendan, take it easy and if you can't take it easy, take it as easy as you can"
Spoken in his lovely Kerry accent.

I agree with you @LifeInAHamsterWheel.

eggandonion · 20/10/2021 16:29

Would iodine tablets work? Or the candles Bertie sent at the millennium?
I can't believe there's more nphet shouting and scolding, a couple of weeks ago we were good girls and boys.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 20/10/2021 16:38

I know egg! Things were going great guns, we'd all got straight As and could see the light at the end of the tunnel. Now it's back to doom and gloom and mixed messages from NPHET and Government Hmm

Mind you, I absolutely hate Halloween so would be quite happy for a one-day lockdown next Sunday. It will have to be a full on, stay in your homes lockdown - a 2km radius won't help me avoid the scourge of trick or treating!

eggandonion · 20/10/2021 17:38

I don't know how much fun size chocolate things to buy. If Halloween doesn't really happen I will spend November putting on another covid stone.

shrugshrug · 20/10/2021 18:39

@eggandonion
Tesco have a box of 50 mini bags of Haribo sweets for €4.
I hate Haribo so if no Trick or Treaters call I won't be eating them. 😂
I'm leaving goodies on the porch for the children to help themselves- I'll put a notice up. Hopefully our callers won't be too grabby.
I won't put all 50 bags out in one go.

eggandonion · 20/10/2021 19:24

I don't like them either. Good idea! My dentist gave out apples one year and was never bothered again.

halfpasteleven · 20/10/2021 22:38

@eggandonion

I don't like them either. Good idea! My dentist gave out apples one year and was never bothered again.
I'm secretly impressed by this!

Is trick or treating meant to be on a Sunday this year?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 21/10/2021 10:49

Well Halloween is a Sunday so I presume they'll all go out then. It's a bit daft as it's the very end of the mid term break. My DS is raging that he has to go into school the next day, apparently 'nobody else' is going in! 160 pupils in his year alone, I seriously doubt that none of them will be in on the Monday but of course try telling him that!

TheVeryThing · 21/10/2021 11:57

LifeInAHamsterWheel, my ds says the same, he's in second year. I got the same complaint when I made him go in to school after his second vaccination (which was at 10am).
I'm seriously pissed off with the mixed messages and the hints that we are all relaxing our guard and mixing too much and other misdemeanours.
The communications have been shockingly poor, I feel.
I spent ages trying to figure out what constituted a 'private indoor setting' in relation to the October 22nd regulations. Couldn't even find an explanation or an example on gov.ie.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 21/10/2021 12:05

Yes, everything is still very confusing. I'm starting to dread the winter now, so many people around me are really ill but not covid, just an awful dose doing the rounds. And it's not even been cold yet! I wonder how things will all pan out over the coming weeks.

halfpasteleven · 21/10/2021 12:41

Tony Holohan was on radio 1 this morning ( Claire Byrne show) - trying to get the message across but it just wasn't clear
