A friend of mine was selling her deceased aunt's very expensive house.
3 different estate agents told her to put it on the market low ( €200 - €400k less than they expected to get ).

Don't believe the guide price !!!
It was ever thus. Sad

Park runs are back. My local one started back this morning. I am delighted, a little normality again.
Went for afternoon tea after with my mum and sister. It was lovely.

eggandonion · 26/09/2021 21:08

Are people doing trick or treating this year, as part of our strange semi normal? If I buy massive amounts of fun size things and no kids arrive, I will have to eat them.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 26/09/2021 21:17

Mine are planning to go out trick or treating, definitely. There are complaints about Halloween falling on a Sunday this year and school the next day and mutterings of taking the day off...I would say they will be out in force, egg so there will probably be very few leftover sweets for you Grin

Iblinkedandiamold · 26/09/2021 21:25

Maybe they should change Halloween to the Saturday, or the Friday, give kids the chance to recover. Grin

Exactly! Will they ever think of the children? Grin

"New Bank Holiday for 2021 in advanced stage." According to the news. I should hope it is because 2021 is nearly over. Wink

eggandonion · 26/09/2021 22:14

I live in a street full of grumpy elderly people, I will have to decorate the place and hope for long distance kids arriving. And only buy chocolate I like.

LadyEloise1 · 26/09/2021 22:58

What month would you like the new bank holiday ?

I'd like one either in July or September because of the following:
January - New Year
February - mid term for schools and weather isn't great.
March - St Patrick's Day / Easter
April - Easter
May - Bank Holiday already
June - Bank Holiday already
July - none Sad
August - Bank Holiday
September - none Sad
October - mid term and Bank Holiday
November - none - but weather not good.
December - Christmas

SunscreenCentral · 26/09/2021 23:44

November is my birthday month, so yes, that would be nice Grin I agree though, it is a dreary month. Perhaps July then?
eggandonion · 27/09/2021 13:04

I find September and January very long months. Maybe September as there's a long gap from early August to late October.
Or st Bridgets day would be good.
Or both!

Iblinkedandiamold · 27/09/2021 13:16

Middle or end of November so I can go to Christmas markets abroad without taking a day off work.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 29/09/2021 14:28

I'll take another bank holiday any time they want to give it, but a winter one isn't much use really, I'd prefer July.

I was sorry to hear about the fire at Glenisk, they are a really lovely family business I hope they can recover quickly.

I'm starting to worry about the cost of electricity & heat over the coming winter months. DH is still working from home and I know he'll just crank up the thermostat if he feels chilly whereas I'd go and get a blanket for my legs and an extra pair of socks! I wonder will we get a very cold one this year - what does the famous weather/postman from Donegal say does anyone know? Grin

JaneJeffer · 29/09/2021 14:34

Just seen a post on Instagram that Duffy's Circus are looking for clowns. First reply was "try the dáil" Grin

JaneJeffer · 29/09/2021 14:36

@LifeInAHamsterWheel what is it with men and the bloody central heating? I'm always telling DH to put more clothes on!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 29/09/2021 15:07

Try the Dáil indeed Grin

Re. the heating - it doesn't help that I'm a hormonal mess these days so don't feel the cold like I used to. Maybe if men had perimenopause they'd understand more!!

SionnachRua · 29/09/2021 15:22

Aw it's actually quite nice to hear Duffy's Circus is still on the go! Would've thought the pandemic might close businesses like that.

eggandonion · 29/09/2021 15:53

A December Bank Holiday would be horrible in retail, another day of work!

It's definitely autumn again today, it's my least favourite season.

Iblinkedandiamold · 29/09/2021 20:34

December has enough bank hols in my opinion. Although I could still go to Christmas markets in December. I'd still like November though.

Iblinkedandiamold · 29/09/2021 20:52

Just thinking, it will be a real kick in the teeth if Childcare workers aren't recognised with this intended bonus. It does depend on who is recognised officially though. We were told we had to open or lose funding even when schools were moved on line.
At the time the Government was very thankful, calling us front line.
I wonder if it will be reflected in the Budget.
I will settle for more investment that benefits staff and parents.

honeyrider · 29/09/2021 23:13

The teaching unions who are voted by teachers as well as paid by teachers are doing everything in their power to further turn the public against teachers with their demands for the bonus. They didn't even ballot their members. Tone deaf as usual.

Didn't Leo talk about the work of civil servants who got PUP to people last week? If those are included in the frontliners, the criteria seem very broad. But then again, getting the PUP out was vital, even if it's not done on the frontlines.

I think this has grown into a real headache for the Government, tbh.

Iblinkedandiamold · 30/09/2021 06:55

@honeyrider I think after homeschooling nothing can turn the public against teachers again. Grin
I do think nurses need to be recognised, they are overlooked all too often.
