And to add on, tbh my age group not being called yet is no harm. I want to do some more reading about the effects on menstrual cycles before I sign up to anything...I think for a lot of the late 20s/early 30s women, that will be a big concern.

MrsMaiselsRedCoat · 04/07/2021 23:07

I was offered the J&J vaccine first but declined it. The efficacy is too low for my liking, but that's a purely personal decision, I know lots of people who were happy to go with it. I think J&J recipients will probably be offered a booster in a few months from what I've read recently. From the studies that came out last week an initial J&J followed by a Pfizer would give great protection, and we have plenty of Pfizer expected in the autumn.

I was offered the Pfizer a few weeks later which is what I wanted. I just got the text today for my second this week which is just a day short of a 4 week gap. I will be so relieved to have it.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 04/07/2021 23:09

That's exactly what I was going to say @SionnachRua. My baby-making days are behind me but if I was in that age group I'd definitely hold off as long as possible.

Im still waiting to be called for my second dose (Pfizer)

My boss got the Jansen and is now worried that the efficacy won't stand up to Delta or other variants.

I just don't know. But the hospital and ICU numbers are still low so let's wait and see. If the UK are abandoning masks from 19th it can't be that bad??

Mishmased · 04/07/2021 23:55

I'm in my thirties just had a baby 6 weeks ago. I got my vaccine Friday week and next one due on 16 July so 3 weeks after. I missed the cutoff dates for getting it when pregnant so GP advised to wait until after baby is born. DH and I got it at the GP but I know people are getting it in Pairc Ui Caoimh and city hall (Cork).

eggandonion · 05/07/2021 08:40

I'm not convinced that the English government know what they are doing.

Their track record isn't great actually.
thelegohooverer · 05/07/2021 14:18

Anyone else got primary kids on holiday? How’s it going?

One of mine is in summer camp and the other is making the most of having mammy all to himself. My head is ready to explode with pokemon facts but I’m actually getting quite good at minecraft with the private grind classes I’m getting 😂

ForeverAintEnough3 · 05/07/2021 14:32

Hi @Summernamechange2021 @SionnachRua I think which one you get depends on your circumstance! My sister and her DH are in the 18-34 age group. He’s a farmer so he’s getting J&J as he’s not in an office or commuting situation and he’s young so it should give him adequate protection and he’s happy to have one and done. My sister is a nurse who missed the rollout for healthcare as she’s on a career break but she’s waiting for Pfizer as she will be back on the wards and Pfizer has the highest efficacy.

Re menstrual cycles, I’m TTC and am 35. I’ve had both doses of Pfizer. I ovulated normally after the first and my period arrived a few days after the second so a totally normal cycle for me. Just bear in mind even if you did have an abnormal cycle it’s your period reacting to environmental stressors and it’s nothing to do with your actual fertility and ability to conceive. Hope this helps!

SionnachRua · 05/07/2021 14:59

@ForeverAintEnough3 absolutely, I think you just have to go by your own circumstances really. I work in a primary school so would be fairly exposed, so a bit of a wait for the more effective vaccines is worth it for me.

I've been really enjoying switching off since the school year ended. This is the first year I've not done a summer course, with the restrictions it wouldn't entitle me to days off next year anyway. And there's feck all useful in those courses anyway.

Ran into one of last year's class in the park yesterday, her poor mother looked fit to be tied Grin

ForeverAintEnough3 · 05/07/2021 15:03

@SionnachRua well in your case then I’d way for Pfizer as cases are ok at the minute, you’re off work for summer anyway so can probably wait for Pfizer and have highest efficacy by the time you’re back at school (however if you’re early 20’s you might not be done by then so that would probably sway me toward J&J)

Summernamechange2021 · 05/07/2021 19:59

Thanks for the replies on the 18-34 vaccines.

Seeing as there is no sign of us returning to the office, I might just wait on the list for pfizer/moderna. I do think as well we already had covid late last feb before testing was available.

Agreed on the effect on menstrual cycles, its something younger women will need to keep in mind. Good luck with your ttc @ForeverAintEnough3

@thelegohooverer youll be an expert in minecraft by september Smile I have my 2 DC here with me too 🤯 took a week off work with them and the weather was great so we got to do loads. Then I went back to work late last week and Im reminded of the horrors of WFH while they are here. I had a childcare issue so currently trying to sort full time childcare but for now they are with me in the mornings while i work, then get dropped to childminders on my lunch break for the afternoon. Anyway the result is my brain is so fried, that I actually dropped DS1 to a birthday party on Saturday, didnt see any other children except the birthday boy, but left DS there anyway. Then got all the way home, checked the invitation again thinking it was strange no other class mates were there (they are young so have a full class bubble rather than small bubble) - and the party was actually on on sunday ShockBlush

JaneJeffer · 05/07/2021 22:20

I read the other day that J&J is 80% effective against delta. I got that one. After being in town on Saturday I'm quite happy to hide out at home for as long as possible. It was unbearable.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 07/07/2021 10:44

I got my appointment for my second jab, having called to query it, so it will be 2 weeks 'late' but at least I'm getting it.

Some amount of rain yesterday! Please God the weather will improve as it really doesn't look like indoor stuff is going to open anytime soon. There's a really lovely restaurant local to us that has just decided to put up awnings etc so they can serve outdoors. I might bite the bullet and book a table, to support them if nothing else. I'll bring a blanket to wrap around me!!

That's good to hear, Life! It will be a relief to get it.
IsFuzzyBeagMise · 09/07/2021 14:01

Just wondering...is it raining everywhere else, or is it just Cork?! 🌧️🌧️🌧️

BiddyPop · 09/07/2021 14:48

Dun Laoghaire has felt like rain all morning but still dry...am hoping it stays that way as I am trying to dry clothes that I didn't realise were dirty and I need to bring to Clare tomorrow (which has a traditional forecast of rain most of the week....so will be needed). And it is COLD here today...middle of july my eyeball....

DSis on 1 side, and DBIL on the other, both finally getting their 2nd jabs tomorrow in Pairc Uí Caoimh, both delayed (24 days and 20 days).

Yes, cold and very wet. Good luck with the drying and enjoy your holiday! I'm getting my second jab tomorrow in Páirc Uí Caoimh. I'm not waiting quite as long as your relatives (I'll be eighteen days over) though it feels like ages!

I would happily light the fire if I didn't have to go to the coal bunker.

CliffsofMohair · 09/07/2021 18:55

Hearing firmly set to on 🙄

Oh really Grin I must have a look at it.

I didn't watch Dermot's latest one about renovating tiny spaces.

CliffsofMohair · 09/07/2021 20:30

I did and it featured a house by none other than Deirdre formerly of Home of The Year before she got shafted for her wan Amanda

I am loving the room to improve on channel 5 - it's such an escape from the Covid uncertainty
