I want to get back to Ireland because my mum is not well, but on her doctor's advice , we are waiting until she is vaccinated, before I come home.

And she STILL has not been vaccinated yet. She is over 70. why are they so slow. :(

Iblinkedandiamold · 09/04/2021 19:20

I dont have an Irish name but my neighbour beside me has been calling me the wrong name for years. I gave up correcting her as it's not out of badness.
A lot of people say my name wrong, it's not just saying it wrong they give the complete wrong name l answer to everything now.

I read on the news that a woman in hotel quarantine is bringing a case to the high court about how legal it is or something. What other country would tolerate that. Waste of money and time.
Was in my parents today and on the Joe Duffy show it was "more tails from inside hotel quarantine" again why give it air time. In other countries you wouldn't be able to stick your nose out of the room, here people can go missing for a few days.

BloodyInternetFood · 09/04/2021 19:25

You could have gone for a €90 sandwich in Rathmines (I think) but I believe they all sold out in a few days 😯

Imagine!!!

On a side, I must have never types "Rathmines" before, it just took me 7 attempts to make it stop autocorrecting Was getting a bit annoying!!!

BloodyInternetFood · 09/04/2021 19:27

I had one woman call me the wrong name for the entire time my children were in primary school with hers. She got it consistently wrong- so I suppose that's something!!!

JaneJeffer · 09/04/2021 19:31

One of my neighbours calls me Mary. I feel I can't correct her!

Sarahtrue11 · 09/04/2021 19:37

Haha, I have done that. It is easier to let it go on isn't it
eggandonion · 09/04/2021 19:43

And of course there's wee miggledee. Wink

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 09/04/2021 19:46

@Sarahtrue11 I think you're being facetious. You know full well that a head of state is not comparable to you, me or anyone else on this thread. and a National broadcaster such as the BBC should absolutely get the pronunciation right. And we might call him 'me-hole' in jest here but again it's hardly the same as Sharon Ní Bheoláin calling him that on the six-1 Hmm

I'd love a good Thai takeaway but we don't have any nearby. Dubs are spoiled rotten with takeaway options so you can literally go buck wild Sionnach Grin

I was going to get a chippie this evening but couldn't be bothered ordering it (on line) and driving the 30 seconds to collect it.
I made pasta, tin of chopped tomatoes, peppers onion and garlic instead.
I used to live in Rathmines years ago, it had Notions even back then.

It was nice.

I talked about people getting my name wrong, and you have called me facetious.

I ask you this: Why are you ignoring the two other posters right above you, @BloodyInternetFood @JaneJeffer, who are also talking about people who have gotten their name wrong?

Be consistent if you are going to call people facetious :)

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 09/04/2021 20:10

You're still doing it!!

You specifically were saying that it's no big deal for a newsreader to get his name wrong and call him Michael instead. That context is totally different to "normal"
people getting other people's names wrong.

Is anyone else a golf-widow this weekend? We only have the one telly (my veto, the rest of the clan would love one in another room but I haven't backed down) so DH has said he intends to watch the Masters all weekend. Luckily I'm a big reader but I'll still bank the brownie points Wink

I will in mehole go for a €90 sandwich when they let me back in the country, BloodyInternetFood Wink

I actually never use that expression in real life but this thread made me do it!

Annonymiss123 · 09/04/2021 21:20

DH will be glued to it all weekend @LifeInAHamsterWheel - he’s counting down the days to be back on the course!

Emeraldshamrock · 09/04/2021 21:57

Is anyone else still checking the worldometers for Covid deaths.
Italy and Poland is raging consistently with deaths I'm really hoping we are seeing an end to it.
I'll be watching the school numbers for the next fortnight.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 09/04/2021 22:01

I'll be watching the school numbers for the next fortnight.

From what I've heard about how cases are recorded I'm not convinced we'll get true figures for school cases. I'm just so glad they're going back on Monday and hope they can stay in for the rest of the term. Who knows what'll happen though. Will we see an increase in cases as a result of Easter I wonder.

OP posts:
MarDhea · 09/04/2021 22:21

Warning this eve from the HSE that anyone who picked up covid over the Easter w/e is at their most infectious in the coming days.

True... but not a nice thought with the kids going back to school on Mon Confused

Iblinkedandiamold · 09/04/2021 22:23

Definitely not getting true school figures at all. Teachers and parents are told not to tell anyone when there is a case in a school. That's the schools where people I know teach anyway.
I do think Children should be in school for the last 10 weeks anyway.
My niece is back on Monday for the first time since Christmas. She'll only be back and she'll be off again at the end of May. She's only in second year so this has been her whole introduction to secondary school.

Emeraldshamrock · 09/04/2021 22:26

A lot of cases are submitted to the Alerting parents to outbreaks Ireland FB page.
The administrators only add hse verified cases it'll give an idea.
Daily notifications on crèche cases over the Easter holidays ATM.

Emeraldshamrock · 09/04/2021 22:29

DS was back a month before Easter. DD a fortnight they'll make it to June lots of outside breaks throughout the day.

HaHaVeryBunny · 10/04/2021 09:05

Morning everyone, hope you're all doing well (well, as good as we can be during this time)

Last night's chat about takeaways has given me a craving for my favourite. The old fashioned Italian proper Chipper chips, soaked in salt and vinegar and washed down with a tin of Club Orange.

I've a very refined palate as you can tell Grin so l'm a great judge of these things Grin

The Magic Chef in Stillorgan was a favourite of both myself and my Granny, such happy memories of us getting our chips when she used to babysit me. Always served with a smile a wink and "a little bit of extra" chips. Happy days.
Hopefully new better days aren't as far away as they seem at the moment.

MadamBatty · 10/04/2021 09:43

My sister lives in the US. It’s traditional with us on her first night back that we drink Guinness, get chipper chips & batch bread for sambos. (Then drink too much wine, dance in the living room & wake up with a hangover).

That's exactly how they should be enjoyed :)

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 10/04/2021 09:55

Oh 100% a chip butty made with hot chipper chips, batch bread and real butter is the food of the Gods Smile
