Anyone watching this ?
It stars Dervla Kirwan of M&S food ad fame - she of the velvet voice.

So far, I think it's pretty good.
I had to Google to find out which daughter was which. Lots of characters.
Will it be shown in the UK ? The BBC are involved in the production.
I love the house.

I watched it on Sunday night. It moved pretty fast I thought. Lots of characters and families and each family had so much going on!
Stunning location too.
I didn't know Dervla was the voice of M and S!
I saw her being interviewed recently and she said there's going to be a second series.
There's 6 episodes in the series and I'm looking forward to watching them.

JaneJeffer · 13/03/2021 22:49

Just watching episode 1 now on RTÉ1.

When I see Dervla I think of Father Ted second best priest Grin

TakeTheRibbonFromYourHair · 14/03/2021 20:40

Caught last week's episode last night and really enjoyed it. Tried to tell my sister about it though and realised there was so much to fill her in on! Looking forward to tonight's episode. The houses and setting alone make it worth it!

JollyGreenGiantess · 14/03/2021 20:48

I really enjoyed it. Her boyfriend was in Borgen !

halfpasteleven · 14/03/2021 21:13

I'm in work early so don't know if I'll watch episode 2 tonight or during the week.

The ads for it looked good tho

LadyEloise · 15/03/2021 12:24

It's good. I was also watching Bloodlands on BBC, which was ok.

Dervla Kirwan better known for M&S ads than corrupting a lovely priest??

Assumpta and Father Peter forever Grin
JaneJeffer · 20/03/2021 01:40

I'm not enjoying it because I don't like any of the characters. It reminds me of something else I watched where a man drowned but I can't remember what. I don't know if it was the Eastenders Red Water thing or something else. All the Irish dramas are merging into one for me!

LadyEloise · 22/03/2021 08:25

@Barmbraic I never watched Ballykissangel. Smile

I've only seen the first episode, but I kept finding myself giggling slightly at moments that clearly weren't intended to be funny. I think it was mostly the set and costumes -- the whole thing kept reminding me of the fearsome good taste of the interiors and clothes of an Irish Times Weekend supplement, everyone had such tasteful frocks and paint colours and front doors. It looked like the USP was intended to be 'Not Everyone Who Lives in Rural Clare Is a Culchie With Patterny-Lino and Bull McCabe Dress Sense.'

I think the bit that killed me was that the morning after Whathisface was thrown off the cliff, we saw a mildly distraught Dervla Kirwan from the front, apparently wearing a very ordinary jumper and jeans, the kind of thing you might throw on after your STB Ex has just been killed. Then she turned around, and in fact the jumper had complicatedly designer-y looking lacing all the way down the back.

Is it worth persevering?

LadyEloise · 22/03/2021 11:04

I think so but I liked the first episode better than the later episodes so if you didn't like Episode 1 I'm not sure it's worth you watching.

It wasn't so much that I didn't like it -- I thought lots of the performances were good, and was tickled to see Hilary Rose (the mammy from The Young Offenders) looking very glossy at the party, I was just being distracted by the sets and costumes. Maybe I should give it another go. Maybe as things get messier, everyone starts wearing Penney's pyjama bottoms. Grin

halfpasteleven · 22/03/2021 12:55

I like the "whodunnit" aspect.. so many people had a reason to dislike him.. I like how there are still so many suspects left..
It's something different anyway.. it's a distraction that's badly needed these days!

LadyEloise · 22/03/2021 13:06

I can drool over the beautiful sea view house.
My dream.

I watched the second episode and part of the third last night. Basically everyone had a motive. The surfers being picturesque out at sea probably had one. The dog that walked past when Dervla Kieran was going into Grace’s café probably had one. Carrie Crowley’s nice hair is another potential suspect.

JaneJeffer · 23/03/2021 14:50

Did you ever see so many Irish people in one place and none of them are any craic? Not very realistic!

Why haven't they had the funeral yet?

I wonder what's up with Bord Bia man?

True! Even the party was a complete craic-free zone. Even the fizz and shrimp nibbles looked sad and emotionally constipated. I spent most of it admiring Grace's blue dress and wondering about Dervla Kirwan's disastrous taste in men.
KittytheHare · 28/03/2021 13:22

It's the incredible backstory of almost every character that gets me. Mental illness, embezzlement, false paedophilia accusations, fire-setting, alcoholism, suspected domestic abuse, business shenanigans, super angsty teen...

Obviously it won't stop me watching it though Smile

IwishIwasontheN17 · 01/04/2021 18:32

Poor Calum looking like he was set upon by the Young Offenders there

LadyEloise · 01/04/2021 23:05

My heart was in my mouth worried they'd catch him.

Watching it for the Clare country side as love that area but a bit caught up with the story too. Last week l though.." Oh come on there is too much going on for one family..brain tumour/ abortion on top of murder/ arson ..l could keep going.
But due to lockdown l will persevere

Deadringer · 01/04/2021 23:24

I found it hard to figure out who was who which spoiled it for me, by the third episode i didn't care any more, i thought it was boring.

JaneJeffer · 03/04/2021 00:14

I'm persevering even though it's boring as hell. I reckon short haired daughter shoved him off cliff thinking it was Bord Bia man. I don't know anyone's name apart from Callum after four episodes!
