Coming so close to the stand back approach taken to the football supporters it is so tone deaf it's unbelievable!
I think the difference in treatment is similar to the students/travellers here.
The potential for an explosion of violence was not as present from the women at the vigil so the police could go in heavy handed with no fear of the consequences.
I know the police forces in the UK are separate and it's a different system to Ireland.
But all the public will see is Police and equate it to their local force.

Yes. Very harmful for the relationship between the police and the general public.

The AZ vaccine has been put on hold here. I presume it is precautionary while they look at the blood-clotting issue and will be resumed once more is known about it.

A friend of mine who is a teacher in Spain had her first dose of AZ two days ago and was unwell after it.

Taytocrisps · 14/03/2021 12:56

An interesting development. I'm not a medical specialist and have no idea if the suspension is justified. But it's likely to push the vaccine rollout back even further. And if the suspension is lifted, will people have lost all faith in it?

CherryValanc · 14/03/2021 13:55

It is important that they reveal the profile of who the blot clots have formed in. (Presuming there is one.)

I'm not 100% sure it's justified. There's been literally millions given it in the UK and I haven't heard of any reports from there. I think AZ messed it up for themselves.

Interestingly it the side effect seem more prevalent in younger people (for the Oxford vaccine.) Also it's thought that if someone has had Covid-19 then the side effects are stronger. (And that plays out for people i know.)

Anyone i know who's had the Pfizer just had a sore arm.

Know one person who had the Johnson vaccine and he seems fine.

I saw the headline re the Astra and feel so under whelmed now.
Today is Mother's Day and I'm putting on a brave face for my DP and two children but really this is hard to listen to.
The case numbers are so high again as well...
I'm going for a lie down .

Flowers halfpasteleven.

Hopefully it's a blip. Don't let it ruin your day.
Stay away from the news.

M0rT · 14/03/2021 14:57

I could cry about the AZ Vaccine pause, I'm high risk and was hoping to hear about an appointment soon.
I just want to call to my sister for a cup of tea, hug my Mam & Dad.
Shouldn't be unattainable dreams.
My DH had it recently with work and was grand, sore arm and felt like he had done a HIT workout the next morning. But two paracetamol and he went to work grand. None of his colleagues reported anything worse than him. Age range for his team would be 30s to 50s.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 14/03/2021 15:02

I know, MorT it's a setback Flowers

One day we will look back on all of this and say thank feck it's over.

Sooverthis1 · 14/03/2021 15:24

I really can't get my head around it all, there's another thread on here basically in response to the Irish government halting things and saying the risk of clots are so minimal etc so whats going on ?
Feel like things are moving so quickly too, at the beginning of the week I was reading about how well things are going, seeing some positives re the infection rate and in the space of a few days this has all changed despite continuing to be in prob the strictest lovkdoan in Europe. Also why oh why can't the guards do anything re those funeral and weddings, 300 plp.... there were ppl fined near me for walking on an empty beach....
Unfortunately those funerals and weddings will undermine the effort and hugely demotive ppl who have been following the rules.

M0rT · 14/03/2021 15:35

@IsFuzzyBeagMise thanks.
I'm normally quite stoic and try not to dwell on things that can't be helped.
Think it was just getting my hopes up and then feeling them dashed again.
Someone on the other thread said they are talking about only pausing for a week to see outcomes of investigations so hopefully they clear vaccine involvement.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 14/03/2021 15:38

I know, @MorT.

Same here. I'm having moments too recently. It takes its toll.

Yes, fingers crossed.

Ach, I'd take that thread with a pinch of salt. Given that the UK have vaccinated so many people it's understandable that they want to minimise this issue - it's those posters children/grandparents/partners they're thinking of. Not to mention themselves.

I think they'll recommence using it in Ireland soon enough but I don't mind a pause to check things out.

halfpasteleven · 14/03/2021 16:39

@IsFuzzyBeagMise thank you.
Hopefully this is just a really small blip in the grand scheme of things.

I think it hit me hard today as me and DP called to his mother for Mother's Day and I just wanted to call to mine while I was there. They live within our 5km and we stood in the front garden..
my mam is an hour away.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/03/2021 17:57

That's so hard @halfpasteleven Sad I am very lucky to have my mum nearby and she's in our "bubble" but we've not seen DH folks for over a year now and it's hard on all of them.

Wishing you all a happy Mother's Day and hoping that the next one will be more normal.

Re the vaccine, this is something they had worried me all along. I'm definitely not an anti-vaccer, my kids have had all their vaccines up to date but I do worry about the fast tracking of these drugs globally without the usual protocols. My current boss worked for one of those companies for a long time before coming to our work and he said he wouldn't dream of taking a vaccine that hasn't been tested as much as it should. They've all got agreements that they can't be sued for any complications down the line. We just don't know enough about the long term effects of this virus never mind the long term effects of these vaccines. It's such a worry to me. I literally swing between desperately wanting us all to be vaccinated asap to thinking I'd rather take my chances with covid. I think I need to turn off news etc for a while (again) to try and reset.

thelegohooverer · 14/03/2021 18:01

I haven’t posted on these threads for a while. Feeling very strange today, just over a year since the first lockdown began and the dc going back to school tomorrow.

I feel quite sad that I didn’t put a bit more effort into this lockdown but it was all I could manage to keep one foot in front of the other.

I have one dc that will be delighted to go back but the other is going to struggle. So we’re only swapping one stress for another

Going to grab a cuppa and catch up on this thread Brew

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/03/2021 18:04

Welcome back @thelegohooverer I felt exactly the same this time round, I lost my mojo and just needed to get through it. We are not alone! Lots of my friends and colleagues say they feel like this. It's "lockdown lethargy" please god it won't be for much longer.

CherryValanc · 14/03/2021 18:06

As I said up thread the profile of who has got the blood clots is essential. If they are (male) over 40, obese and inactive then they are at risk of DVT anyway.

There's millions of people who have had AZ vaccine in UK and hw many have reported to have blood clots?

I can't help feeling it's a way to dump Az because of their on-going behaviour with supply - both Pfizer and J&J are available for use in the EU now.

Sooverthis1 · 14/03/2021 18:35

Fingers crossed for the j&j one,!

thelegohooverer · 14/03/2021 20:33

Waves to fellow wollies Wink I used to be on the p&b threads fadó fadó

I was thinking about the “right” age to start school. I have one heading to secondary next year who was just 5 starting JI and in all honesty could go with another year of primary. I knew he was too young to start even though he was technically the perfect age and everyone was pushing me.

I was more confident in holding on to dd, who was a may baby, and could have gone either way, though the principal was strongly encouraging me to wait the extra year (and I was delighted to). But she’s one of the oldest in her class and likely to be an early developer and that brings a lot of other problems too.

So my tuppance worth is that there’s no right answer Confused

Emeraldshamrock · 14/03/2021 20:54

Good luck to all those starting the school run again tomorrow.
DS is back 2 weeks DD tomorrow there is single cases reported daily on the "Alerting parents of outbreaks" Facebook page.
At least the weather will be milder with the windows open in classrooms.
Judging by France and Italy a third wave seems likely.

halfpasteleven · 14/03/2021 21:19

Make sure they have plenty of warm layers on @Emeraldshamrock as even with the milder weather classrooms are draughty places with windows and doors open.

Are we not in the third wave now?

Iblinkedandiamold · 14/03/2021 21:36

Feels like we're in wave ten. Grin
I liked having the few afterschoolers, it wax nice and peaceful. Tomorrow everyone is back. Well not everyone, some parents are keeping their kids off.

We'll see how it goes.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 14/03/2021 22:16

Good luck to everyone going back tomorrow.

Our youngest is going back. It's very strange altogether.

AnnieJ1985 · 15/03/2021 13:01

It has been a struggle the last couple of days. Had a cry yesterday seeing all the Mother's Day stuff on TV. So many people missing their families, us included, we're in Dublin and they are all in Donegal. I am LONGING to get up home home to see them. Yet I am so grateful that none of us have been sick (not just Covid, any illness) and I keep saying "just another wee while, stick it out"- but the wee while has dragged on and on.

I am also a bit stressed by getting my house in order! We aren't here very long, and have had the luxury of no neighbours/family wanting to pop in to see how it is looking, but as we get closer to restrictions being lifted I feel like we're on a timeline to get cracking on the painting and decorating 😂 I won't be able for the pressure of entertaining!!
