Glad it gave you a giggle :) ln the end she didn't go ahead with the engagement. So all's well that ends well.

@eggandonion

Matt from Busted is apparently trained to vaccinate in England. My daughter is sad, she'd like to go and see matt from Busted! My pharmacist is brilliant at flu jabs, my dentist is good, our vets are great. But they ain't Matt from Busted.

I'm a bit skeptic all about these self-called vaccine administrators in the NHS system.

I was talking to my friend in England last week the same day she got her (first) covid vaccine, and she said the staff at the community centre where she went outnumbered the patients by a factor of 4:1. She passed through 6 different people before she saw the 7th person who actually gave her the injection. The rest were all non/clinical - taking her name at the door, pointing her to various desks, taking her name and dob again, taking consent, asking if she had someone to drive her home, directing her to a cubicle, etc.

She had a set appointment and was in and out within 10 mins, but she said they could have run the show with half the staff. So I bet Matt from Busted is one of the glorified bouncers who check names off a list... but are "an essential member of the NHS vaccine administration team" Grin

@HaHaVeryBunny

I've only used private health care once, a walk in swift clinic ages ago and It's a bit of an embarrassing one really. My friends and l were having a get together in the Harvey Nicks bar in Dundrum (somewhere a pleb like me would never usually go) but my friend had some good news, so we thought we'd put our glad rags on and go somewhere nice.

Friend was late and we were laying into the cocktails, so were pretty well oiled by the time she arrived.

Her "good news" was she was now engaged to her absolute twat of a boyfriend the type who would shag a letterbox and had tried it on with 2 of us.
All of this came out and a bit of aggro started, she naturally went into defense mode "we were jealous of her, her huge diamond ring" (that someone said was fake) and all hell broke loose. l stood in between my 2 friends to break up the fight and got a nice black eye and bloody nose for my troubles.

The walk in Swift Clinic was across the road, and l managed to get seen to in 10 minutes, no broken nose thankfully. But let me tell you that diamond ring was NOT fake, hard as nails it was as my 2 week black eye proved.Grin

Oh dear, HaHa Grin

I'm glad you got 'swift' treatment that day :)

All's well that ends well!

Iblinkedandiamold · 30/03/2021 18:59

I dunno if I'm higher up or lower down on the vaccine list now. Teachers are giving out again but maybe the government is thinking that it'll be 10 weeks till Summer break when primary school reopen and hopefully a lot of teachers will be done bombed the summer. Given the young age of a lot of teachers I dont think so but i dunno.
I forgot all about the announcement today. Was out enjoying the sun.

sessell · 30/03/2021 19:06

Just to say all these support staff at NHS centres are volunteers. It's a bit much, there were about 20 volunteers when I got my jab last week - one for every step! But people want to do something and it's quite nice that they can.

eggandonion · 30/03/2021 19:26

Imagine being vaccinated by Ronan Keating or Keith Duffy.
I have a friend in London who is a volunteer at a vaccine place. She's also a journalist. Maybe Tommy Gorman and Sean O'Rourke could spend their retirement at certain vaccine places. Or Charlie Bird!

Apileofballyhoo · 30/03/2021 19:34

I often think Charlie Bird died for some reason. I don't know why but when someone mentions him I always think "I thought he had died"... Weird one!

I'm trying to think if there's anyone I'd like to see at a vaccination centre.

When I brought DS for a Covid test before Christmas the staff were so unbelievably nice that I was amazed, especially when you consider they're repeating the same lines and same actions all day, day in day out.

Are you all still friends Bunny? I'm glad it worked out ok.

I'd like Orla Guerin. I bet she'd have stories. Or maybe Brian O'Donovan could nip over from Washington, though the Callan's Kicks version of him means I would probably spend the whole vaccination trying not to laugh.

You gave me a fright! He's alive and well, isn't he?

@HaHaVeryBunny, I think you should only go drinking with your friends if they take off all jewellery and drop it into a safety deposit box.

@Apileofballyhoo oh yes we're still great friends, she's happily married now to a great guy :)

Iblinkedandiamold · 30/03/2021 20:21

What is the logic behind meeting in a park or beach but not in someone's garden? Is it to stop the temptation of going inside?

eggandonion · 30/03/2021 20:28

I think so.

Taytocrisps · 30/03/2021 20:29

I wonder if it's because you might pop into someone's house to use their loo if you're in their garden? You wouldn't be able to do that at the park or beach.

Or (more likely) to prevent people having garden parties with alcohol.

SuddenArborealStop · 30/03/2021 20:51

There was nothing new in that speech but for some reason it made me apoplectic with rage. I can't seem to calm down , he's so out of touch with what's happening already.

Emeraldshamrock · 30/03/2021 21:02

I'm feeling a rage with the current restrictions too.
The 26th of April. Angry
No click and collect. I can't get DD shoes as hers are specialist shoes with ankle support.
They could open the zoo and other outside attractions it is never ending, as far as I can see the public have given up anyway.
I had a meal out mid December its a distant memory.

eggandonion · 30/03/2021 21:08

Sensible shoes, for children or older people, or orthotics should be available, definitely.

SuddenArborealStop · 30/03/2021 21:39

DD has just started to walk and I've no shoes .. I saved all DS shoes so I'm not being picky she has much smaller feet.

This is DD who my family have barely met , who doesn't sleep so I've had over a year of sleepless nights with no break Sad I know there was a period last year when we could see each other but since she didn't know anyone from Adam I couldn't leave her.

I'm just feeling sorry for myself here there are obviously people way worse off but I feel like the every day reality for people is just beyond this governments understanding. It makes me think their own lives haven't been curtailed massively at all.

Emeraldshamrock · 30/03/2021 21:52

They need a balance it is absolutely ridiculous.
News on changes to the vaccine schedule by age over profession.
Another slap in the face for teacher's and Gardai.
@SuddenArborealStop hang in there. Flowers

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 30/03/2021 21:53

Hi SuddenArborealStop, that's tough. It's beyond tough. I hope things will look up for you soon Flowers

Yes. Shoes are essential items, especially for children and teens or anyone who really needs them! And they need to be fitted properly.

I've been there. Had to get DD little slipper like things from next and Dunnes last year until shoe shops opened as she started waking during lockdown. It's hard, all the milestones and grandparents not there to see them or just end up watching them on a screen. My DD is a joy but she's also hard work especially in a lockdown when there's nobody to leave her with even if she knew them which she doesn't. I heard on Matt Cooper this evening that it may be July before we are allowed to travel from county to county. I cannot cannot cannot wait that long to see my parents.
eggandonion · 30/03/2021 22:26

This is what happens when men are making rules. My husband went shoe shopping with kids on his own once, and we went together a few times. Mostly I did it. I had a ds who didn't want shoes, just runners. I had dd1 who only wanted the most gorgeous shoes, and pretended the silly ones were the only ones that didn't hurt. And dd2 who has incredibly narrow feet and hated the shoes that stayed on.
It was a nightmare. And online would have been an online nightmare.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 30/03/2021 23:02

We have a shoe shop in our town and it's been open all along. By private appointment. He also delivers locally but if you need to get feet measured you book an appointment and he opens the shop for you. I say opens fit for you but it's open all day as he is out the door with appointments! I had to get DD feet measured a month or so ago and was so glad of those service. Now he only sells "good" brands like Startrite and Pablosky etc but still I was so glad of it.

I cannot see the logic behind not allowing click & collect etc. Surely the government know that they've already lost the majority of people. Look around, everyone's out and about. Feck sake I am so fed up with it all now 😠

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 30/03/2021 23:03

Apologies for typos I wasn't wearing my glasses!!

eggandonion · 30/03/2021 23:07

Our local shoe shop closed for good last year. I think due to retirement.
