A sixth thread in Craicnet!!

Who thought that would ever happen!!? Has there even been a sixth page before?

OP posts:

Hey, hope ye don't mind me joining. Have been reading along through the threads.
Also disgusted by the Beacon! Had to be premeditated for 20 teachers to somehow all be available at the end of the day with a moments notice. Makes me so angry.
My DD17 went back to school 2 weeks ago and the difference in her is huge. Just that bit of human interaction....Hoping and hoping they get to go back after Easter.
Had been feeling so down over it all but had a fab lift this week when my dad aged 77 was called on for his vaccination.
Hoping the 5km is raised as we are rural and feel like I know every plant in the ditch right now!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/03/2021 18:32

Welcome youwouldthink!

Dunnesstores · 27/03/2021 18:34

Welcome from another newbie!

Emeraldshamrock · 27/03/2021 18:56

Looks like there will be repercussions for the Beacon which will unfortunately cause delays in the vaccine program the CEO's favour is costly.
3 absconded from the quarantine after 24 hours, did they think it wouldn't be noticed? It is relaxed Ireland but come on. Grin

LadyEloise · 27/03/2021 19:03

Had the absconders pre paid ???

Iblinkedandiamold · 27/03/2021 19:17

You have to prepay dont you? I dont understand the reasoning here. They knew about it, they booked it, it want like they landed and were grabbed and forced into a hotel. If you don't like it dont come. Was it that African woman? Or was it the woman from Australia who said the room wasn't suitable for her family.

Iblinkedandiamold · 27/03/2021 19:20

Also, I read people were cutting back on food and utilities bills during the pandemic.
I'd love to know who is cutting back on food because my food bill has increased. Grin

JaneJeffer · 27/03/2021 19:26

I know every plant in the ditch right now!
Grin welcome fellow culchie

Dunnesstores · 27/03/2021 20:07

I suppose if people are on PUP for the second or third time and losing out a fair bit of income they'd have to make cutbacks to all their outgoings.
We've been very lucky not to have been on it all which I'm very thankful for. We'd have got by on PUP but with paying a mortgage every penny (or cent really:) would be a prisoner.

Iblinkedandiamold · 27/03/2021 20:25

@Dunnesstores yeah, it must hard on people with children. I am on my own, food is the only thing I have to look forward to. I buy Supermacs or from the local chipper way more than I ever did.
Oh crap. I just spilled tea all over me. I've had so many cups today. It's so cold today.

halfpasteleven · 27/03/2021 21:00

Welcome @youwouldthink
My parents have had their second jab so I feel your jubilation re your Dad.
I really hope they lift the 5k.. but to what?
If the numbers are high and they are, will lifting the 5k mean more people on the move and interacting therefore spreading the virus?
It's a hard one to call for sure.

Iblinkedandiamold · 27/03/2021 21:21

My parents have a date for their first one. I'm delighted. Cant wait for them to get it.

Nannyamc · 27/03/2021 21:26

4 bed ward. Other wards are for covid isolation

thelegohooverer · 27/03/2021 22:05

Welcome @youwouldthink

I had to take dd for a test today. She hasn’t been sick for the past year but is making up for it now and totally miserable.
It was such fun though! Really injected a bit of excitement into the day. I’m so ground down that going for a covid test was like a day out. I even managed to get a bit lost on the way home and we saw new bits of the city!
There were a few kids at the test centre and the staff were brilliant altogether. I feel like I should be giving them a review on tripadvisor or something.

Carriemac · 27/03/2021 22:19

I might fly into cork just to quarantine
In hayfield , stayed there once with DH for work and I love how they call you by your name all the time.

Iblinkedandiamold · 27/03/2021 22:27

It's wild out there tonight. Listening to the wind and the rain. Crazy weather

Apileofballyhoo · 27/03/2021 22:30

Welcome, would.

I wouldn't be arsed with a shebeen, but I'd love a sit down meal somewhere. It's not like we ate out regularly or anything, it's just it seems like it would be such a massive treat now.

Does anyone think other countries didn't have convenient words for an unlicensed pub and have had to make up new ones?

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/03/2021 22:30

It's like a November night out there.

JaneJeffer · 27/03/2021 22:39

Just watching The Hothouse Flowers on Tommy Tiernan and Liam looks like Methuselah. I feel old Sad

eggandonion · 27/03/2021 22:58

Hayfield Manor did coffee and two scones for 9 euros a head last summer, all socially distanced and pre booked. I live in hope, and yes it was a ridiculous price!

I remember him from days of yore. He was the 'hot' in Hot House Flowers.

At one time they used to pour your coffee or tea for you; it was very posh service.
eggandonion · 27/03/2021 23:32

They did pour my coffee last summer with a napkin on the handle, then leave a fresh napkin for guests to pour. Guests! Notions indeed.

NewjobOldme · 27/03/2021 23:59

When I was in college a friend of mine had a part time job playing piano in Hayfield Manor, when it wasn't long open. She invited us to come for a drink in the bar and to hear her play. I've never felt further outside my comfort zone in my life! To be fair although we were clearly a bunch of penniless students the staff treated us very well.
