The government are doing too little too late.
NPHET suggest something,
The Government say No - it's too extreme.
Then they do it.
Too late !!!
FFS.
As I said from the start : All parties work together for the sake of the country. The leaders of all parties meet to discuss the state of the country and the most effective solutions. No political point scoring. It's a National Emergency.
The amount of gardai at checkpoints in Dublin !!! What a waste of resources- you can see cars doing uees to avoid them. Yet young fellas can have a "battle" on the Samuel Beckett bridge. Shock

Apileofballyhoo · 23/03/2021 11:08

Yup, Lady. Short, sharp, extreme lockdown is bearable. This shit is not.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 23/03/2021 11:11

Yes. Agree with this and also to inclusive cross-party government.

3timeslucky · 23/03/2021 11:34

Problem is that a year in it is too late for a short sharp shock. This lockdown was supposed to be the last one because it would run til now and we should all be vaccinated and opening up. Now it is looking like the vaccination levels won't be here for another 6-9 months. It is some mess.

eggandonion · 23/03/2021 11:48

I am very law abiding but I'm very fed up. I want vaccinated, all my uk family members of my generation have had at least one jab, some have had two.
If people in France and Germany don't want them, send them here. Last Easter I picked up click and collect shopping, and that's all that happened in April. April and May, nothing happened. This year is looking the same.
Stamp foot.

Mayzee · 23/03/2021 11:53

I’m so worried the rest of the classes won’t go back to school. The only thing keeping me from murdering my 13 year old is the hope that I have 8 weeks break from homeschooling. And he needs it so badly too (not just for life preservation purposesGrin)

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 23/03/2021 11:58

I think that if the supply chain works properly, that the roll-out could go quite quickly. I'm thinking back to the H1N1 vaccinations.

eggandonion · 23/03/2021 12:02

Dh and dd2 had the h1n1, dd1, ds and I didn't. I wonder what percentage had it.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 23/03/2021 12:09

I know it is different as this one will be more wide-spread so it will take longer. I got it straight away as I was pregnant and so did DD as she was asthmatic and recovering from pneumonia. My DH got it a bit later on. Good question. I don't know!

eggandonion · 23/03/2021 12:15

My dh got it in work, dd2 had been ill. It vanished, h1n1! I wish covid would vanish.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 23/03/2021 12:20

Ah sorry @IsFuzzyBeagMise I thought he'd travelled. Well that has appeased me a bit, but only a small bit - he's still bloody useless in my opinion!

Where is that postman from Donegal who predicts the weather? I'd really like to know if we're in for the same glorious sunshine we had last April & May. That would make the extended lockdown bearable at least.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 23/03/2021 12:40

No worries Life. He's in my constituency, so I like to keep an eye on him Grin
I have never voted for him as I have a complete aversion to FF.

Postprandial · 23/03/2021 12:53

God, @IsFuzzyBeagMise, I bet we know one another, or our cousins went bushing together, or something. I'll get a Craicnet tshirt and wear it on the school run and see if anyone looks at me funny. Or more funny than usual.

Taytocrisps · 23/03/2021 13:12

I'm a very law abiding person as a rule but I've had it with the 5km limit. On Easter Monday morning I'm driving to my local beauty spot for an early morning walk. If I'm stopped by the Gardaí, I'll tell them that I'm driving to that town to do my shopping. Not a lie because I'll do my shopping after my walk. There's no supermarket where I live, so I'd have to drive there to do my shopping anyway. I will continue to avoid my family and friends and I won't be doing any sneaky meet ups in anyone's garden. The prospect of this short walk is the only thing keeping me sane right now.

halfpasteleven · 23/03/2021 13:55

I miss certain beauty spots that we used to travel to for day trips- less than an hour away.
We live rurally but there have been so many weekends now where I would love to go back to those places.
I find weekends harder than week days- Sundays were for visiting family and as a result Sunday's have just become so much harder.

eggandonion · 23/03/2021 14:06

@Postprandial I won't see you on the school run but might bump into you at Barry Collins!

Apileofballyhoo · 23/03/2021 14:15

Tayto I really don't blame you, we need something to look forward to and that's such a little thing. I was so gutted not being able to see my mother. I'm also very law abiding, but I honestly don't blame anyone for bending the rules at this stage, especially if it's outside.

I never vote FF either, Fuzzy. I'm still not over Dev walking out of the Dáil because he didn't win the vote. Tbh I didn't mind MM, he brought in the plastic bags thing and the smoking ban and I thought both of those were good, and he seems honest, especially compared to some of what went on during the Tiger years.

I'm lost as to who to vote for really, I don't get Leo, I don't know whom Labour represent, the Greens introduce policies that make people's lives harder instead of reducing VAT on environmentally sustainable products or making public transport much cheaper, just something that would make better choices easier for people. You can't choose not to commute if you live in rural Ireland and your petrol costs are beyond your control. Not to mention being a bigot if you think sex is a separate thing to gender.

Yes, Apile. I agree. I am considering the Social Democrats. I like Róisín Shorthall from what I can see. I have voted FG, Greens, Labour previously. MM is not the worst of them. He is a hard-working man and seems honest.

Tayto, go for it. It will do you good.

eggandonion · 23/03/2021 14:57

I have some vouchers. This is the highlight of my week now, Super Valu.

Barry Collins' isn't just any Supervalu. Grin

I agree, @Apileofballyhoo, we're not long home from living in England for years where we lived in a safe Tory seat where even the tactical voting websites said 'Sorry, nothing you can do there' and I'm having to relearn Irish politics, and I don't seem to fit anywhere. (And am horrified at the erosion of women's rights. Did I spend my younger years fighting for abortion rights to then arrive back in this reactionary period under the guise of progressive inclusivity??? Angry)

Plus we've moved constituency since the 2020 election, and I have no idea who these TDs are, other than that one of them lived in a brief and disastrous houseshare with DH in the mid-1990s. But all that means is that I know more about his attitude to washing up than his politics. Grin

LadyEloise · 23/03/2021 15:50

I have no time for MM. He sat in cabinet with Bertie, Cowen and the rest of that shower who wrecked the country with their FF tent at the Galway races an playing golf with the Anglo guy, the bank guarantees etc and the less well off had to pick up the pieces.
I like Catherine Murphy and Róisín Shorthall.
They don't strike me as mé féiners.

I know. I haven't forgotten.
eggandonion · 23/03/2021 16:35

I can imagine Micheal is more of a goody two shoes who tutted a lot about the bold boys, but went to the tent to keep an eye on them. My dh was at a ff mens dinner once, where Bertie was guest of honour. Dh was there because someone bought him a ticket, but anyway mrs Martin was the only lady there. She is the power behind the throne apparently.

I like Centra in Crosshaven, and the cafe across from it. Dream day out!

Apileofballyhoo · 23/03/2021 16:38

I haven't forgotten either about MM but I always had the feeling he wasn't in with the in crowd. Obviously I don't actually know, and I could be completely wrong and he might be as crooked as a snake or whatever things are crooked. I've still got the feeling the old in crowd will oust him asap.

I'm looking at the Soc Dems too, hope they run a candidate in my constituency, they didn't last time. What frightens the life out of me is a prominent former member joining Fianna Fáil. Makes me wonder about morals and ethics and belief systems. Seems like the two things are polls apart, but is it a case of power corrupts or perhaps self-importance corrupts? Frightens the life might be a bit strong when another party's canvassers knocked on the door dressed in combat gear, a look I'd have thought they were aiming to distance themselves from.

I also got my SV vouchers. Yay!

In other news, there was a birthday party after school today. Surprised at who went, and the number of them. Coming from two different schools too. House is in the countryside.
