A sixth thread in Craicnet!!

Who thought that would ever happen!!? Has there even been a sixth page before?

Did the last 12 months actually happen or was it a weird dream?

Taytocrisps · 17/03/2021 12:13

It was all a weird dream @eggandonion. Any minute now, you'll turn on RTE One and you'll see Blathanid Ní Chofaigh interviewing Amercian tourists on O'Connell Street as they wait for the parade to start.

Happy St Patrick's Day All!
The sunshine is so welcome.
Is this global warming I wonder?
My memories of childhood are my Dad having to put his gloves over mine as we waited for the parade as my hands had gone numb with the cold Grin

Iblinkedandiamold · 17/03/2021 17:16

I did a 10k run today. I had planned to mow the lawn and tidy the house abit but the run wiped me out so I'm laying on the sofa. I just watched wolf walkers and now I am watching Wife swap. What a say.

Joolsin · 17/03/2021 21:49

I got three loads of washing dried on the line today. A successful bank holiday if ever there was one!! Grin

halfpasteleven · 17/03/2021 22:12

@Joolsin
I got bedlinen and throws as well as our normal washing done today!

Nothing like fresh sheets on a bed.

Had great plans to go outside but also slept for nearly 3 hours...
really needed this day off.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 18/03/2021 09:06

Did the last 12 months actually happen? this is exactly how I feel sometimes!

Thank God the sun shone yesterday but bloody typical wasn't it! If we'd been able to have normal celebrations, we'd have had wind and rain Hmm My childhood memories of St. Patrick's day are similar to M0rT's!

Fair play for getting the 10k run in Iblinked I did my 5k walk and felt great after it. I've started to run in small bursts this last week or so and I am finding that I'm able to run a little bit more each time. Not sure I'll ever get up to a 10k (or even the full 5k!) but it got me home quicker so that's a win for me Grin One side of the road was in the shade and the other was in the sun - I mostly ran on the shady side as it was still bloody cold without the sunshine!!

Next up, Easter. We had really hoped to get to see our inlaws for Easter they are the other side of the country and we've not seen them for over a year now. But no vaccinations yet so we'll have to postpone until Summer. I'm gutted not only because I love them dearly and want to see them, but also because MIL does the BEST roast dinners ever and I am having serious withdrawl at this stage Grin

eggandonion · 18/03/2021 09:25

I would love to go somewhere outside my 5km, anywhere really. I am starting to feel sort of institutionalised. I will creep outside my 5km.
My dh is super optimistic, and makes plans for trips and ideas for holidays. I can't imagine ever going anywhere! I can't believe that things closed down so much on Christmas Eve, and are still the same on St Patrick's Day.
I'm going for a walk now, and I am going to make soup, clean the bathroom and do my ironing.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 18/03/2021 10:16

Hopefully the 5km limit will be increased soon to 10km, egg, perhaps by Easter. Feeling institutionalised is a good description. Our youngest has gone back to school, so that feels more normal.

There was some guy on the radio, a tour operator I think, feeling optimistic about travel this summer. I can't see how he can be, if we're all still in limbo with the vaccination roll-out?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 18/03/2021 10:36

Our youngest went back to school on Monday too, and was delighted to be going back but said "we'll probably have to go back to homeschooling again though, like the last few times..." it made me so sad. That that's an actual presumption on her part. I really hope this year is the last of it.

eggandonion · 18/03/2021 10:54

It was really quiet in the park, even the coffee ladies weren't there. 10km, where would that take me?
My ds is desperate for 10km, he's in a Dublin suburb and every walking place is crowded.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 18/03/2021 11:39

@eggandonion there's an app that will tell you exactly whats in your 2/5/10k radius! Go to www.2kmfromhome.com on your phone and it will show you. Good luck Smile

AnnieJ1985 · 18/03/2021 12:28

10 km would mean my sister and I could overlap and possibly meet up somewhere on the side of the M50

We went to Marlay yesterday, gorgeous day. It was quiet enough when we went up but must have been heaving earlier as there were still cars parked on random verges due to lack of space.

A lot of people sitting in small groups, which I can't get too worked up about now- sitting outside in plenty of space can't be that bad. I know I shouldn't pick/choose the rules! There were small groups of kids on the pitches - as they are probably all back at school now, what's the harm in 4 or 5 playing football together in the fresh air.

I was behind a woman out walking who asked one boy if he/they had permission to play and, if so, who gave it to them. Felt bad for the kid, if you don't want to see them play outside on a sunny day, maybe it is up to you to stay home?

Roll on Easter weekend though, 4 days of more DIY ahead 😂

eggandonion · 18/03/2021 12:47

I have 2 neighbours doing DIY, surely they will run out and ask me if I need anything fixed.
A chunk of our 10 km is Cork harbour which is nice. We can't go as far as the big posh Dunnes at Bishopstown. I wish places could have outdoor seating for tea and scones.
It is my opinion that nphet and hse and politicians have tea and scones every day. I might set up a protest group.

Taytocrisps · 18/03/2021 13:32

I had a nose at Sinead O'Connor's house (it's up for sale). It's a little colorful for my taste. Super location though. I just need to find €1m.

Taytocrisps · 18/03/2021 13:36

And a little extra to cover the property tax.

eggandonion · 18/03/2021 14:32

I'd have thought she'd live somewhere that costs more than a million.
I'd watch a telly programme about celebrity houses on the market.
I've just had an argument with my daughter. My neighbours keep their bins in the front garden. They are building a shed in the back garden, I hoped it is for the bins.
Daughter says there is nothing wrong with bins in the front garden. Apart from they do tend to get stolen.
Am I turning Hyacinth? Our front garden isn't fabulous, part of our hedge died a couple of years ago, I have been considering what to replace it with.

Joolsin · 18/03/2021 15:21

Saw it too, very colourful alright. You'd be straight out with the roller and white emulsion the day you moved in. But what a lovely view to the sea.
Iblinkedandiamold · 18/03/2021 19:31

Today was a strange day. A lot of the children were acting strange, temper tantrums, crying, hyper. The afterschoolers as well. One child had a massive meltdown, something that child hasn't done in a long time.
I didnt know what day it was.
A mother rang thinking she sent her child on the wrong day, she thought it was Friday.
Really odd day, almost like a full moon.
Hope tomorrow will be better for them. Grin

eggandonion · 18/03/2021 21:57

I was certain that Tuesday was Wednesday. I wish I was working, like the slight confusion caused by bank holidays!

Emeraldshamrock · 19/03/2021 07:56

@Iblinkedandiamold let's hope today is a better day.
DS was extra cranky too.
It is a strange time for the little ones.

7Days · 19/03/2021 10:07

My 7 year old is the same. He is always a bit highly strung, a real sunshine and showers little guy.
But back to school seems to have stressed him out mentally.

eggandonion · 19/03/2021 11:38

I don't blame anyone of any age feeling in bad form.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 19/03/2021 12:32

Thank goodness, the weather is beautiful. Long may it last.
