Unlinked because I can't remember how to do it, and can't find Help thing.

I don't think I can handle another five weeks. Not in a fatal way (thankfuily) but I'm just frustrated and passed off already and I don't think I can maintain being civil to people in work if in increases.

I'm already hanging on a thread with my incompetence chump of a manager. I think I'll just explode about Week 5!!

CherryValanc · 19/02/2021 15:33

@LifeInAHamsterWheel

Whoever is in charge of communications should be sacked!! It's an absolute disgrace how important info is being (or not) relayed to the public. Feck sake. And what a night 😳 It's still dreadful here, no way am I going for a walk in that! I'm not wearing my Fitbit today, I could not be dealing with it reminding me to move every hour!!
Agree. I knew nothing about it till I read this thread.

I just looks a journal.ie - surprised they didn't give a news alert on it (unless I ignored it..)

Iblinkedandiamold · 19/02/2021 15:48

I realise children need to go back to school, but I dont see the point on phasing it in before the easter hols.
Some children will only just be back and then off again.
If all of primary schools were going back on March 1st I could understand better. If Easter wasnt two weeks I'd understand that too.
I'm in two minds about this, I want normality as soon as possible but still.
Also i just accidentally touched a screw I just screwed into wood, I burned my poor finger.

JaneJeffer · 19/02/2021 15:58

I was on the journal last night @CherryValanc and I didn't see it either.

I don't know why they don't wait until after Easter now either @Iblinkedandiamold. Getting the school buses out for a few kids, etc. What difference does it make at this stage?

DS2 now thinks he doesn't have to bother working seeing as JC cancelled Hmm

VintageStitchers · 19/02/2021 16:40

Honestly, all this leakage of school start dates is making me feel quite cross. Can we just be told what’s definitely been agreed and no more pointless rumours?

DS is in 5th class and is ok with the Maths. I remember him being disgusted when at the beginning of 4th class they started by revising the 1 and 2 times tables...!!

Unfortunately, because I’m originally from the north of England, I find it impossible to pronounce the Irish words properly so when he tries to practise his Gailege spellings, I’m reading the words out as if they’re English and DS is collapsed in hysterics trying to figure out what they are. Grin

Luckily, DS is academically very able and doesn’t need support from us to get on with his school work each day. He does however, struggle with other areas of school so I think he’d be ok not going back until the summer term or even waiting until next September for 6th class.

eggandonion · 19/02/2021 17:24

Dh and I are from the north, so no Irish, the spellings were....unusual.
The Mirror journalist tweeted last night, that's where I saw it.

Even I have trouble spelling Irish words, especially when it comes to adding hs or gs. I watching tv3 news. M.M is very bad at speaking and he's condescending too, talking to reporters like he's a school principal. "Come on now I have" speaking about interviews.

JaneJeffer · 19/02/2021 18:22

@VintageStitchers Teanglann.ie is good for pronunciation because you can listen to the word and they do it in the Irish for each province. Can be amusing as well!

halfpasteleven · 19/02/2021 21:41
@halfpasteleven when I was in school, in the black and white 80s 😁, we had to sign up to something for lent.
I always washed the dishes for my Mammy, this was handy as it was my job anyway!
Funnily enough I do this already too!!

The lack of proper communication is bad.

RIP to Tony Holohans wife who passed away.

Iblinkedandiamold · 19/02/2021 22:01

I gave up biscuits every year for lent. Biscuits were very very hard to give up as we didnt get a lot of sweets when I was younger.
I am on a bit of a diy kick. I was boxing in pipes today. I need to Fix my bath frame next. It's made from wood and some of it's rotten so it just broke away. Can't afford a steel one so just going to get more wood in Woodies tomorrow.

I just read about Tony Holohans wife too very sad news.

anomletteandaglassofwine · 19/02/2021 22:02

I hadn't listened to the news all day, then watched it at 9, 9 more weeks of this 😩

My ds was distraught this morning, just reached the end of his tether, it is so, so hard on teens, they need their friends so much. At least he has a part time job which gives him some social contact.

My dd hadn't seen a friend since Christmas Eve, she was so down this week so we arranged a meet up with one friend, just a coffee and walk around the park. She was so excited, chose an outfit, did her makeup, straightened her hair. I found it so sad, she should be at discos and out shopping with her friends. She's in TY so probably won't get back into school until after Easter.

I don't think you're actually allowed to meet a friend for a walk are you? Clearly everyone but us is ignoring that rule where we live, as it was very busy at the parks and sea this week. I'm at the point now, having followed the rules to the letter for nearly a year, where I am going to risk assess each situation and decide what to do based on mental health and well-being as well as covid.

I'm finding it so hard to make the weekend a bit different from the week, we've watched everything, played all the games, baked all the cakes, etc. It is just so, so boring at this stage.

eggandonion · 19/02/2021 22:14

I don't think it is allowed. My dd sees her boyfriend for a walk each weekend, they are both wfh. They are watching a series simultaneously each evening from their rooms.
I agree, risk assess.
The local sea swimmers seem to meet up every day to swim, then drink coffee in a big huddle.

Quarterback11 · 19/02/2021 22:22

You can meet with 1 other household outdoors for exercise (but not in your garden) - gov.ie

Haven't been doing this but might start!

anomletteandaglassofwine · 19/02/2021 22:56

Quarterback11 Thats good to know, I should have looked there myself! I have been terrible with walks this week, I only went out when it was nice, I can't stand walking in the wind. I might try and arrange something with a neighbour then I wouldn't be able to skip it so easily.

eggandonion sea swimmers are a law onto themselves!

I just had a look on the Covid hub, the numbers in our area have come down to where they were in mid December.

Barmbraic · 19/02/2021 23:21

I'm a sea swimmer but I keep my distance as as much as possible since I'm also an antisocial wagon and love my half hour of peace and no one talking to me. Wink

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Dr Emer Holohan. RIP Flowers

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 20/02/2021 14:41

Yep, that's about as clear as we're going to get 🤦🏼‍♀️

eggandonion · 21/02/2021 10:05

I couldn't sleep last night. The constant leaks are too confusing.

OP posts:
Iblinkedandiamold · 21/02/2021 11:23

@eggandonion I have a very strange sleep pattern going on the last couple of nights. I ho to bed tired but cant sleep, eventually drift off for a few hours wake up again for an hour or so, back to sleep for another few hours, wake up and get up feeling exhausted.
I dont know if it's eating chocolate late at night, the book Alexa is reading me or wondering when we are back to work properly so I can get the preschool and afterschool room ready.

halfpasteleven · 21/02/2021 12:39

My dreams are so vivid and bizarre, anyone else?

halfpasteleven · 21/02/2021 12:41

I'm trying not to eat chocolate late at night as I was guilty of that. No problem getting to sleep ( toddler DD makes sure I'm tired going to bed!) but my dreams leave me feeling exhausted.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 21/02/2021 13:07

I'm having a lot of Covid-related dreams going back a while.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 21/02/2021 13:45

I'm a terrible sleeper at the best of times so covid has only made it worse. Strange dreams when I do sleep (though I never dream about covid)

I have to say this Brazilian strain is worrying me. I'm not sure I believe they've identified and contained the few cases they identified. I read that 2,000 people arrived from Brazil in the last 28 days - could that be right?? If so, I'd guess that there's way more than 3 cases of that strain. Not only is it more virulent but the vaccines aren't effective against it? Jesus. Is there actually any end to this shite at all??

On the plus side, IT'S STOPPED RAINING Grin

JaneJeffer · 21/02/2021 13:51

I am pissed off that we have been stuck in the house since December (apart from DH) but it's fine for people to fly in from Brazil. What's the fucking point?

Iblinkedandiamold · 21/02/2021 13:59

Had to do a quick shop today so decided to go for a walk in that area instead. I am exhausted and just wanted to do the shop and get home but I am so glad I did it now. I feel a lot better just because I walked somewhere different.
Before covid it was a walk I did regularly, now it's outside my 5k. I miss it. Sad
