I think I read that st Mary's is very big, it's like a small hospital, and also has some old, long wards. It probably should have been divided into units, before now.
If preschool education, childcare and nursing homes were under state management but had proper career progression and payscales comparable to education and hospital staff, would that be better? Childcare near me is a mix of large nurseries, preschools in random premises, registered minders, and unregistered minders. My kids went to random premises for preschool, but it was a lot cheaper then!

Iblinkedandiamold · 12/06/2020 14:37

I would love if the state could take over wages. I like the idea of getting 15 euro an hour. Like Mr people before profit said (paul something?)Grin

eggandonion · 12/06/2020 14:52

Paul Murphy?
I like the variety of childcare, including grannies and childminders. I don't know if that would work if it was a state agency though. I do think we need to reexamine a lot of 'the way things are' and this was the ideal opportunity to begin to do it.
I don't think it will happen.

Iblinkedandiamold · 12/06/2020 23:57

Yes paul Murphy or Richard Boyd Barratt. I dont know which one said it. (Are they both people before profit? I cant keep up)
My garden furniture arrived today just in time for the rain. 😁
I have it rough put together, just have to tighten a few screws and I think I did something wrong on the table. The instructions were next to useless when it came to telling me what way up something should go.

ManorMouse · 13/06/2020 08:15

I hadn't thought about school uniforms as I'm so old. I hated wearing them, and then I hated washing them.

I hated our school sweater. The principal used to send out a letter every year reminding our parents of their duty to make sure we only wore the official version or else we'd be sent home.

The official version was made from wool with the consistency and wearability of steel wool and could only be bought in a boutique owned by the principal's sister.

Was Simon Harris grey at the start of all this? Because he's looking very salt and pepper now. www.rte.ie/news/2020/0614/1147352-simon-harris-comment/

eggandonion · 15/06/2020 11:19

I wonder what the new government will mean in terms of ministers, assuming it goes ahead. Leo and the Simons must be exhausted whether people agree with them or not. But they know people in Covid Land and Brexit Land.
Simon Harris always had a white streak in his hair, but he does look in need of a trim! I think Dr Matt sorts leo's hair, and poor Simon Coveney isn't top of the waiting list for haircuts.

AngelaScandal · 15/06/2020 11:22

They must be shattered. I bet they’re delighted To hand over the keys to the country to Fianna Fáil for a bit.

LadyEloise · 15/06/2020 14:44

@eggandonion
I started a new thread on the new government on Craicnet. I'd love people to post their views on it there, if interested.

I might be back at work on the 29th of June. Maybe, if demand is there. As I am sessional term time only usually I wonder how it's going to work for next year, as in am I now going to be employed from june to june. Have a meeting on Monday to discuss.

Iblinkedandiamold · 19/06/2020 13:56

I cant stop spending money. It's flowing through my fingers like water.
I'm also really shocked about that Garda being shot. Yesterday I was very annoyed, imagine heading off to work for the day and some bas takes your gun and shoots you 15 times. 15 for flip sake. I am still so angry and very sad for the family and friends of Garda Colm Horkan.

user1496146479 · 19/06/2020 15:46

Shocking news about the Garda. So sad for his family

Iblinkedandiamold · 19/06/2020 18:38

I'm not as excited as I used to be about these little speeches

chartreuse · 19/06/2020 19:48

Lots of people will be jumping for joy about hairdressers, the problem is how long we'll have to wait for an appointment!

It's incredibly sad about the Garda, and awful for his family that he'll have to have a funeral under these circumstances.

user1496146479 · 19/06/2020 20:28

I've been on a wait list for hairdressers for the past 9 weeks, activating once they open.

Iblinkedandiamold · 19/06/2020 21:13

I just did a 10k run with a friend, 2meters apart but still, it was surreal and so much more enjoyable. Also I'll have another medal to add to my collection when it arrives. It was really nice running and chatting with someone.

chartreuse · 21/06/2020 01:06

This is worth reading, and keeping for posterity. It's amazing how much has happened since that day

LadyEloise · 21/06/2020 09:35

Thank you for that Chartreuse.

Well done Iblinkedandiamold, 10km !
I couldn't run for a bus.

Iblinkedandiamold · 21/06/2020 10:00

Oh thanks for that @chartreuse very good.
@LadyEloise I'm still waiting for this runners high people talk about. I feel great when it's done but during it I feel like it's torture. 😅

AngelaScandal · 22/06/2020 10:04

@Iblinkedandiamold I’ve been running ten years and still waiting for the high! I’ve hated every minute but feel great afterwards

Iblinkedandiamold · 22/06/2020 18:04

I'm back to work on Monday, cant wait. I was running out of money. I was spending like I won the lotto or something. Grin

chartreuse · 02/07/2020 19:42

How's everyone doing? We're still staying close to home and haven't been tempted by a pub or restaurant yet, but I've noticed a lot more traffic and the supermarket has stopped limiting numbers inside.

I'm pretty concerned about people travelling now, IMO it wouldn't hurt anyone to stay at home for their holidays this year. As I heard a TCD epidemiologist say the other day, foreign travel is a privilege not a right.

I just saw this on the IT, I hope no one is planning to go to Portugal

First week back at work nearly over. I am wrecked. I feel like I'm washing my hands and the kids hands constantly if not washing I'm squirting hand sanitizer on them.
We were lucky today, we wee outside most of the day. Less cleaning to do.
I wont be going on hols anytime soon. I dont think I'll fly further than london until there's a vaccine and I dont even intend to go there soon.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 02/07/2020 20:29

We went to Clare on Monday, back today, which is a pretty good journey in the current circumstances as there's no need to stop anywhere. The only people we saw were our neighbours across the road and we stayed outside and kept our distance as she is having cancer treatment. It was nice to get away, but tbh I've become used to have a pared down life and staying in the house and I missed being home.

I do really, really fancy going for Japanese food so I might be tempted out of the house again in the next couple of weeks. Plus my personal trainer is opening up again, so every silver lining has a cloud. Grin

Awful news this evening about Emer Feely, Tony Holohan's wife. I hope they have lots of strength and support around them and their children.
