Here's hoping this new phase of an opening up of Ireland won't bring a second wave.

Iblinkedandiamold · 08/06/2020 10:30

I would say we are in for a second wave, I just think it's unavoidable. The thing I'm sure about is if it'll come before Sept or if it'll come during flu season.
I hope you dont have to go into lockdown again when it does hit.
(I might just be preparing for the worst but everything I've read has said a second wave is coming)

eggandonion · 08/06/2020 10:52

I hope the flu jab is available, for free, to everyone. And my Dd who is an hse worker, who has been front line, can't understand why her colleagues don't have to have it.

Inniu · 08/06/2020 13:12

Opening up doesn’t seemed to have caused a second wave elsewhere in Europe so no reason to think it will be any different here.

An unavoidable second wave in the winter is a different matter but if one is coming we need to make the most of the activities we can do now!

AngelaScandal · 08/06/2020 13:28

I’m giddy with excitement at being able to leave the house and wander the county today

Iblinkedandiamold · 08/06/2020 13:43

I'm not changing much in my routine but I can now go and see my Granddaughter and my nephews. The family in Dublin will have to wait a little longer though.
They were talking about when the gym might reopen. I wont be comfortable going back anytime soon. I am happy to keep doing Facebook live classes

I wondered myself if the acceleration of the phases would mean the second wave will come sooner - in late summer/early autumn before the hospitals start getting the usual winter cases in.

My dp is back to work next Monday, he works away from home so we wont see him Monday to Friday unless he can come down one evening (but has a 3 hour trip each way). I'm devastated over the thoughts of it already and it's going to be so hard on the kids

Lipz · 08/06/2020 19:54

Did anyone go to the shops that opened today? How was it? I had to collect some syringes for dd and cut through grafton Street and the queues were like Christmas. I'm wondering how shopping centres will operate, don't they open end of this week? I did notice no face masks were been worn by people going into the clothes shops. Do we not have to wear them for places like that?

Iblinkedandiamold · 08/06/2020 20:59

@Dk20 that's horrible for you when you've gotten used to having him around. It'll be lonely without him but you'll soon get back into a routine.
@Lipz I wasn't out today, spent the whole day stripping wallpaper and hanging more.
The advice is to wear masks, some shops wont you let you in without them or some form of face covering but I think it's only advisable and people think you should wear them if you are sick

rivierliedje · 09/06/2020 15:44

I haven't been in to town this week yet (will on Thursday) and am dreading it. Have they increased the bus/Luas/dart schedule back to normal yet? If people are going in to shop and everyone in co Dublin can now come to the city centre it will be necessary!

I drove today for the first time in about a month today which was odd, went down to the recycling centre to get rid of things we have decluttered while in lockdown.

As someone mentioned above, a second wave in Sept-Oct would probably be preferable to one at peak flu season. I am hoping for free vaccinations all round as well (for flu, and when available for covid)

Iblinkedandiamold · 10/06/2020 00:00

There's a party going on somewhere, possibly a field. I can hear music and shouting. It's not too loud but everytime I drift off to sleep a shout or scream comes and drags me back. Must be someone's 18th or 21st.
Oh they're playing Maniac 2000, love this song. I cant hear the music but I can them M.A.N.I.A.C, come with me...
Okay not annoyed anymore. Grin

7Days · 10/06/2020 01:31

Maniac 2000! More likely someones 40th in that case.... 40 year olds can still hedge drink, cant we....? !

Iblinkedandiamold · 10/06/2020 13:23

@7Days yes of course we can. These were definitely kids though. I was tempted to join them as it's a popular song. Grin
They sounded too young to appreciate a middle aged woman in her dressing gown turning up.

7Days · 10/06/2020 18:25

Lol. They dont know what they were missing

turkeyboots · 10/06/2020 19:39

It's much busier on the roads. I've been taking DS to Crumlin at regular intervals since lockdown and the M50 and Dublin roads are busy again now. Not normal 5pm on Wed gridlock yet though. I'm missing having the road to myself!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 10/06/2020 22:37

We got a text today from DS's school asking us to hold off on buying new uniform items until we hear from the school. I've no idea whether this might be covid related or not. I initially thought that perhaps they were thinking that the school wouldn't be reopening in the autumn, but now I wonder if it might be something entirely unrelated like a change in uniform. I'm at the stage now where I think every change or new thing is somehow covid related. Grin

Iblinkedandiamold · 10/06/2020 23:46

Maybe they are looking into an easier to wash uniform? I just realised teading your post that when I to back to work I'll have to wash my uniform every day. Luckily I have too tunics, my problem is not having enough clothes to fill the machine. Waste of water and electricity.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 11/06/2020 09:42

It's a pretty good uniform already from a parental point of view as the only things that have logos are the jumper and the track suit. Everything else can just be bought from Dunnes or wherever. (Unlike DD's uniform which has a different summer and winter uniform and three different sports uniforms and EVERYTHING has the school crest on and has to be bought from the uniform shop.)

Iblinkedandiamold · 11/06/2020 10:06

Never understood expensive uniforms. When DS was in secondary school he had a creasted jumper which wasnt much more expensive then the good quality school jumpers I used to buy anyway. Tesco and Dunnes Jumper used to rip and unravel at the sleeves on him, what ever he was doing in school.
Also a summer uniform? For that one week of good weather. Grin

Iblinkedandiamold · 11/06/2020 10:38

Watching the Redknapp on TV. There is something disturbing about Jamie saying "my dad sold me"
In football they need to come up with another term for that. Grin

XFPW · 11/06/2020 15:42

I work in a school up north. Our SLT are having discussions about easing uniform requirements next year. Partly in recognition of the fact that uniforms are expensive and parents may well be in a much more precarious financial situation than normal. Partly because of the need to maintain cleanliness and to restrict the amount of excess “stuff” being brought into the school. At the minute suggestions are to ban blazers because they can’t be washed and are often removed and flung on the back of chairs/on the floor etc. (Plus they are the most downside part of the uniform) Also suggestions of banning scarves because they are most likely to harbour germs because the pupils (mainly the girls) wear them wrapped around their mouths, and then they discard them when they get too hot.

I haven’t heard anything from any of the schools my DC go to yet, but I’m wondering if they will be similar. DD1 doesn’t need anything new I don’t think anyway. DS will definitely need new trousers, and shoes, possibly shirts. Youngest two will probably need everything new so there school is the one I would be most keen on cutting uniform requirements. If they’re only in part time I am loathe to spend a fortune on stuff they will grow out of before they get the wear of it.

XFPW · 11/06/2020 15:43

*most EXPENSIVE part of the uniform - not the most downside! Sorry - random autocorrect there!

eggandonion · 11/06/2020 18:09

I hadn't thought about school uniforms as I'm so old. I hated wearing them, and then I hated washing them. My ds used to chew his jumpers, cuffs and v neck.
My Dd1 after working for 4 years in the hse has been provided with tunics to wear.

Iblinkedandiamold · 11/06/2020 20:36

My work place put up a note on Facebook for parents saying we wont be open until the new school year (24th August) but then sent a staff email saying we might have to do summer camps. Total confusion. Not my managers fault either, you ask the DCYA a question and you get back a riddle as an answer.
Also listened to Joe Duffy a second ago about Childcare. Some woman on saying the state should run them so they'd be run properly. (Insulting 99% of owners who bend over backwards to run their services properly) and pull people off the dole and train them up. Ah you needs qualification, I was deeply insulted by that. I have a BA and she was implying anyone could do my job. They cant, there's so much paperwork and planning that goes into my job. You cant just turn up and wing it. Same with any job. You might be able to be more relaxed one or two days with regards to planning but not all the time. Cheek of her. My blood is still boiling.

LadyEloise · 11/06/2020 21:52

I also heard the lady on Joe Duffy.
"......let the state run them so they'll be run properly...."
Is St Mary's in the Phoenix Park state run ?
St. Mary's where there were many Covid19 deaths.
