I've noticed gangs of teens walking about in my area too, especially with the good weather. No distancing between them. Maybe in their logic though they think no one has it as they've all been isolated and at school for the last 11 weeks. I dont know.

Iblinkedandiamold · 30/05/2020 10:20

Watched my first lockdown concert thing last night. Take That. I've seen loads popping up on Facebook but have always been in the middle of something. (A series usually Grin) Thake that was good though

ManorMouse · 30/05/2020 10:38

They started off apart, but ended up huddled round a patio heater.

Just back from my walk and experienced similar with a bunch of runners. I suspect they belong to a running club as they were all gathered together in a loading bay area about two inches from one another while shouting loudly about tenths of seconds and maximum effort. There were about a dozen of them first time I passed than and nigh-on twenty the second time and taking up both sides of the road and all mingling together.

Still, they're all young and fit and won't be worried about themselves but God help anyone else they come in contact with.

The Irish Daily Mail front page has it today that the HSE issued a guideline to doctors to not test other "patients" in nursing homes for Covid19, if one had tested positive it was to be presumed others have it too.
The whistleblower doctor, Dr Marcus de Brun resigned from the Medical Council over the handling of pandemic.

If I had a loved parent/ close relative in a Nursing Home who died recently I would be so upset about this.

eggandonion · 30/05/2020 11:31

I'd presume others had it to, because it would be difficult to prevent the spread - but testing should have been started far sooner. Residents would have been easy to track and trace. But realistically I don't know how much it would have helped prevent deaths in the frail. I think when this was coming to light they reckoned digestive issues rather than breathing were an early sign of infection in the elderly - but that was a few weeks in. Terrible illness!
I'm annoyed about the teens - some must have parents working in healthcare settings, if one is a contact would s/he admit to hedge drinking with twenty others?
My stupid neighbour is bored and wants to go to France - she's retired so can go in autumn. She wants faster phases. Yet her dd works in a hospice, I want slower and careful phases, protect anyone in frail health.

Inniu · 30/05/2020 11:53

I can’t get worked up about groups of people outside. At least they are outside it is much safer than getting together inside.

I’ve met friends and we did the folding chairs in the park 2m apart thing.

ManorMouse · 30/05/2020 11:59

My stupid neighbour is bored and wants to go to France

One of my neighbours has pretty much self-isolated since the beginning as he has some underlying heart and respiratory issues so is fearful of contracting Covid-19. Understandably so.

Yet he wants practically every sport under the sun to be "made" (sic) to restart and to hell with the participants safety because he's bored and wants his entertainment as a whole sporting calendar is being "wasted" (sic). "They're all fit fellahs, they'll be grand" (sic)

eggandonion · 30/05/2020 12:34

Adults in the park in daytime is one thing (Leo!) But long summer evenings with a lot of wine, trips to the toilet, getting close under the patio heater (and keeping people awake who have to work the next day) is different. As are teenagers drinking in hedges and hugging each other (my teenagers were always hugging mates), and meeting up with romantic interests (I wonder if there will be a spike in glandular fever now.
I really want to go to a cafe and sit outside, somewhere with a view. and have a cup, not a takeaway.
I wish they would make sports start up, my dh likes watching a good 'match' of any sort, keeps him from having to have conversations with me!

NewAccountForCorona · 30/05/2020 18:16

Things have changed around here in a week. Both sides of me are having barbecues - tiny gardens with ten or more people in them. Primary school kids are back playing on the streets and teenagers are hanging around in gangs. For the first time, I feel they should be back in school. Some of them would have less contact in a school class than they are having in my local park.

eggandonion · 30/05/2020 19:29

Yes, I can hear a game with multiple kids playing. I know that they shouldn't, but at the same time they should!

Iblinkedandiamold · 30/05/2020 21:21

Aww I forgot about the launch. Think it's due back at 10.15pm. Did anyone see it?

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 30/05/2020 22:09

It was fantastic, so exciting to watch.

AvocaLove · 31/05/2020 06:38

I have to admit to being pretty upset at the idiots who are meeting up in our local town. Groups of teens everywhere. It’s honestly like the summer holidays here with groups of teens hanging out pier jumping, swimming, drinking, and generally making a nuisance of themselves. Very hard to avoid them on the beach (which is next to where we live), the pier, the parks, the coastal path etc.

A massive police operation this weekend with a huge group of teens (couple of hundred) gathered on the beach drinking. It had been going on all day but police didn’t turn up til 9pm. Several teens arrested. Horrible at any time, but moreso now.

Our town has loads of food and drink places open for takeaway which is nice and if people are sensible then getting a chippy or an ice cream is a nice normality while still staying safe. A local pub though has started doing takeaway pints and it’s a flipping nightmare. Massive crowds of adults all standing around on the rocks/in the carpark opposite the pub drinking. Zero social distancing and zero care that public drinking is prohibited seeing as they are not on licensed premises.

I will freely admit that I have turned into a grumpy old woman, but I’m pissed off that these local spots are fast becoming inaccessible to everyone else because it’s nigh on impossible to avoid the crowds who just don’t care

Iblinkedandiamold · 31/05/2020 17:10

@AvocaLove I've been relaxed about groups outside, loving the bit of life coming back into the place but what you decribe would really piss me off.
Today i was meant to be doing the mini marathon, it would've been glorious weather for it only a little too hot maybe. I did a 10k run locally instead.

Lipz · 31/05/2020 18:04

I've been ringing the guards here in the ROI does anyone know can you do a report online of large gatherings? The local station is not answering. There's 30 people next door, this is the 3rd day of bbq, drinking and partying from 12pm to at least 11pm. Tia

MehMehMeow · 31/05/2020 18:23

Based on my experience Lipz the guards don’t care My estate and the neighbouring estates have been plagued with parties etc from lockdown and the only time the guards have attended was when there was a drunken punch up at 2am. One of my neighbours disturbed a group of teens on Thursday night at half 11 in the green in what he termed as ‘heavy petting’... Hes a doctor in the Mater so was walking his dog. He’s wondering why he bothers.

Lipz · 31/05/2020 18:29

Thanks for that. I did eventually get through and they said everyone is having bbqs and parties and there's just too many to police and unless there's antisocial behaviour there's not alot they can do.. Aww well.

eggandonion · 31/05/2020 18:47

Heavy petting! I'd have giggled at that. I think guards walking around towns would see and hear more.

Iblinkedandiamold · 31/05/2020 19:20

You'd forgive a BBQ with a neighbour of two but not a full on party. No wonder no-one's take it seriously when the guards wont step in. Too many to police? I doubt that many of the BBQ's happening have a large group of people at them.

mineallmine · 01/06/2020 10:32

I'm in a Dublin suburb and on the green in front of my house there are throngs of children I don't even recognise gathering. Over the last couple if days they had a swimming pool and tow parents were bringing out buckets of water to fill it. Other than that, there's been no adult out trying to keep the kids apart. There's absolutely no pretense of social distancing. I'd be embarrassed if I was those parents.

LadyEloise · 01/06/2020 11:18

AvocaLove Are you near Bangor ?

AvocaLove · 01/06/2020 16:27

@LadyEloise Yep

LadyEloise · 01/06/2020 17:27

I saw in the Daily M that there was a lot of trouble at a beach near Bangor.
There should be police presence early before the crowds arrive to minimise the numbers and the chance of trouble.

Iblinkedandiamold · 01/06/2020 19:04

Same in Salthill I believe. 40 youths obstructed Gardaí. I really hope I am wrong but between this and the very large protest in Dublin, I think there could be a second wave, unless the virus weakens.

LadyEloise · 01/06/2020 20:38

Re a second wave, iblinkedandiamold, you could be right.
